Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Riveting."--Bessel van der Kolk, MD, author of The Body Keeps the Score The unlikely story of how the psychedelic drug MDMA emerged from the shadows to the forefront of a medical revolution--and the potential it may hold to help us thrive. Few drugs in history have generated as much controversy as MDMA--or held as much promise. Once vilified as a Schedule I substance that would supposedly eat holes in users' brains, MDMA (also known as Molly or Ecstasy) is now being hailed as a therapeutic agent that could transform the field of mental health and outpace psilocybin and ketamine as the first psychedelic approved for widespread clinical use. In I Feel Love, science journalist Rachel Nuwer separates fact from fantasy, hope from hype, in the drug's contested history and still-evolving future. Evidence from scientific trials suggests MDMA, properly administered, can be startlingly effective at relieving the effects of trauma. Results from other studies point to its usefulness for individual and couples therapy; for treating depression, alcohol addiction, and eating disorders; and for cultivating personal growth. Yet scientists are still racing to discover how MDMA achieves these outcomes, a mystery that is taking them into the inner recesses of the brain and the deep history of evolution. With its power to dismantle psychological defenses and induce feelings of empathy, self-compassion, and love, MDMA may answer profound questions about how we became human, and how to heal our broken social bonds. From cutting-edge labs to pulsing club floors to the intimacy of the therapist's couch, Nuwer guides readers through a cultural and scientific upheaval that is rewriting our understanding of our brains, our selves, and the space between.

Book excerpt: This essential methods manual for immunohematologists (or hematologists and immunohematologists) provides information on genes that encode antigens on red blood cells, platelets and neutrophils. The book begins by covering general concepts in molecular biology and specific protocols such as DNA preparation, PCR-RFLP and allele-specific PCR. Information on the erythrocyte, platelet and neutrophil antigen systems and the molecular basis of polymorphisms are presented clearly in a gene facts sheet format. Database accession numbers and useful adjuncts such as Request forms, worksheets for PCR/enzyme digests also serve to benefit the user. The information is clearly presented and easily accessible and is complemented by the excellent diagrams and tabular material. This book is invaluable for both new and experienced researchers in the field and other related disciplines. - Essential for hematologists and those involoved in tissue typing and the study of human genetic polymorphisms - Presents clearly and concisely the information on a particular variant and the technique used to detect it - Organized by antigen and provides sequences of polymorphisms and primers - Details the general concepts and critical information on genes, their products, and sources of relevant nucleic acids - Includes protocols that allow investigators to set up assays with minimal effort (protocols include primers, reagents, reaction conditions, sizes of amplified products, restriction fragment digests, and the relevant safety information) - Provides information that helps interpret results in clinical settings - Contains additional sources of information (e.g., key references, web site addresses, glossary, Database accession numbers, request forms, and worksheets for PCR/enzyme digests)

Book excerpt: "This book is primarily a genealogy of the third 16th of my family, of the relation and ancestry of my great great grandfather, John (Johann) Fellenz 1833-1896. John's grandfather was Philipp Fellenz 1757-1847, who died in Germany shortly before the arrival in America of his son Peter 1804, daughter Anna Maria Fellenz Feiten 1814, his wife's nephew Mathias Sausen 1812, and their families to the Town of Kewaskum in Washington County, WI, about March 1847. They were later to be joined by all known descendants of Philipp 1757 except for part of the Katherina Fellenz Rinzel family and most of the descendants of Johann Wilhelm Sausen 1763. Philipp's brother-in-law and the above are the core of this book."--Introduction

Book Synopsis Secured Transactions Law Reform by : Louise Gullifer
Download or read book Secured Transactions Law Reform written by Louise Gullifer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secured transactions law has been subjected to a close scrutiny over the last two decades. One of the main reasons for this is the importance of availability of credit and the consequent need to reform collateral laws in order to improve access to finance. The ability to give security effectively influences not only the cost of credit but also, in some cases, whether credit will be available at all. This requires rules that are transparent and readily accessible to non-lawyers as well as rules that recognise the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. This book critically engages with the challenges posed by inefficient secured credit laws. It offers a comparative analysis of the reasons and the needs for a secured transactions law reform, as well as discussion of the steps taken in many common law, civil law and mixed law jurisdictions. The book, written under the auspices of the Secured Transactions Law Reform Project, informs the debate about reform and advances novel arguments written by world renowned experts that will build upon the existing literature, and as such will be of interest to academics, legal practitioners and the judiciary involved in secured transactions law around the world. The text considers reform initiatives that have taken place up to the end of April 2016. It has not been possible to incorporate events since then into the discussion. However, notable developments include the banks decree passed by the Italian Government on 29th June 2016, and the adoption of the Model Law on Secured Transactions by UNCITRAL on 1st July 2016.
