Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This account of deformation theory in classical algebraic geometry over an algebraically closed field presents for the first time some results previously scattered in the literature, with proofs that are relatively little known, yet relevant to algebraic geometers. Many examples are provided. Most of the algebraic results needed are proved. The style of exposition is kept at a level amenable to graduate students with an average background in algebraic geometry.

Book Synopsis Contributions to Algebraic Geometry by : Piotr Pragacz
Download or read book Contributions to Algebraic Geometry written by Piotr Pragacz and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2012 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this volume are the outcome of the Impanga Conference on Algebraic Geometry in 2010 at the Banach Center in Bedlewo. The following spectrum of topics is covered: K3 surfaces and Enriques surfaces Prym varieties and their moduli invariants of singularities in birational geometry differential forms on singular spaces Minimal Model Program linear systems toric varieties Seshadri and packing constants equivariant cohomology Thom polynomials arithmetic questions The main purpose of the volume is to give comprehensive introductions to the above topics, starting from an elementary level and ending with a discussion of current research. The first four topics are represented by the notes from the mini courses held during the conference. In the articles, the reader will find classical results and methods, as well as modern ones. This book is addressed to researchers and graduate students in algebraic geometry, singularity theory, and algebraic topology. Most of the material in this volume has not yet appeared in book form.
Book Synopsis Deformation Theory by : Robin Hartshorne
Download or read book Deformation Theory written by Robin Hartshorne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-10 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic problem of deformation theory in algebraic geometry involves watching a small deformation of one member of a family of objects, such as varieties, or subschemes in a fixed space, or vector bundles on a fixed scheme. In this new book, Robin Hartshorne studies first what happens over small infinitesimal deformations, and then gradually builds up to more global situations, using methods pioneered by Kodaira and Spencer in the complex analytic case, and adapted and expanded in algebraic geometry by Grothendieck. The author includes numerous exercises, as well as important examples illustrating various aspects of the theory. This text is based on a graduate course taught by the author at the University of California, Berkeley.
Book Synopsis Deformation Theory of Algebras and Structures and Applications by : Michiel Hazewinkel

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1024 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a result of a meeting which took place in June 1986 at 'll Ciocco" in Italy entitled 'Deformation theory of algebras and structures and applications'. It appears somewhat later than is perhaps desirable for a volume resulting from a summer school. In return it contains a good many results which were not yet available at the time of the meeting. In particular it is now abundantly clear that the Deformation theory of algebras is indeed central to the whole philosophy of deformations/perturbations/stability. This is one of the main results of the 254 page paper below (practically a book in itself) by Gerstenhaber and Shack entitled "Algebraic cohomology and defor mation theory". Two of the main philosphical-methodological pillars on which deformation theory rests are the fol lowing • (Pure) To study a highly complicated object, it is fruitful to study the ways in which it can arise as a limit of a family of simpler objects: "the unraveling of complicated structures" . • (Applied) If a mathematical model is to be applied to the real world there will usually be such things as coefficients which are imperfectly known. Thus it is important to know how the behaviour of a model changes as it is perturbed (deformed).
Book Synopsis Deformations of Singularities by : Jan Stevens
Download or read book Deformations of Singularities written by Jan Stevens and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes deal with deformation theory of complex analytic singularities and related objects. The first part treats general theory. The central notion is that of versal deformation in several variants. The theory is developed both in an abstract way and in a concrete way suitable for computations. The second part deals with more specific problems, specially on curves and surfaces. Smoothings of singularities are the main concern. Examples are spread throughout the text.
Book Synopsis Graded Algebras in Algebraic Geometry by : Aron Simis
Download or read book Graded Algebras in Algebraic Geometry written by Aron Simis and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-03-21 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this book is to look at certain commutative graded algebras that appear frequently in algebraic geometry. By studying classical constructions from geometry from the point of view of modern commutative algebra, this carefully-written book is a valuable source of information, offering a careful algebraic systematization and treatment of the problems at hand, and contributing to the study of the original geometric questions. In greater detail, the material covers aspects of rational maps (graph, degree, birationality, specialization, combinatorics), Cremona transformations, polar maps, Gauss maps, the geometry of Fitting ideals, tangent varieties, joins and secants, Aluffi algebras. The book includes sections of exercises to help put in practice the theoretic material instead of the mere complementary additions to the theory.
Book Synopsis Splitting Deformations of Degenerations of Complex Curves by : Shigeru Takamura
Download or read book Splitting Deformations of Degenerations of Complex Curves written by Shigeru Takamura and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-26 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author develops a deformation theory for degenerations of complex curves; specifically, he treats deformations which induce splittings of the singular fiber of a degeneration. He constructs a deformation of the degeneration in such a way that a subdivisor is "barked" (peeled) off from the singular fiber. These "barking deformations" are related to deformations of surface singularities (in particular, cyclic quotient singularities) as well as the mapping class groups of Riemann surfaces (complex curves) via monodromies. Important applications, such as the classification of atomic degenerations, are also explained.

Book Synopsis Geometry of Algebraic Curves by : Enrico Arbarello
Download or read book Geometry of Algebraic Curves written by Enrico Arbarello and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-10 with total page 983 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second volume of the Geometry of Algebraic Curves is devoted to the foundations of the theory of moduli of algebraic curves. Its authors are research mathematicians who have actively participated in the development of the Geometry of Algebraic Curves. The subject is an extremely fertile and active one, both within the mathematical community and at the interface with the theoretical physics community. The approach is unique in its blending of algebro-geometric, complex analytic and topological/combinatorial methods. It treats important topics such as Teichmüller theory, the cellular decomposition of moduli and its consequences and the Witten conjecture. The careful and comprehensive presentation of the material is of value to students who wish to learn the subject and to experts as a reference source. The first volume appeared 1985 as vol. 267 of the same series.
