Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new method for computing the performance of uniformly loaded wood floors is presented. The procedure presents a floor as a simple structure consisting of a beam supported by elastic springs. The method computes midspan joist deflections which are virtually identical to those obtained from a large-scale finite element program, but a fraction of the computational effort. Also, computations agree very closely with laboratory results. A simple BASIC program is presented for implementing the procedure.

Book excerpt: Based on information obtained from a review of the literature and from liaison with committees concerned with the development and revision of voluntary standards, it was found that there is a dearth of research information contributing directly to the development of test methods. Most of the research conducted on building components has been carried out either to observe the behavior of a sample of a particular type of construction or to evaluate the performance of a specimen against some performance requirements. However, helpful inferences can be made on the basis of some of the documentation, especially that contained in reports of full-scale tests on housing. An up-to-date status report of voluntary test standards activities (in the U.S.) was prepared through verbal and written communication with members of the technical subcommittees of ASTM Committee E-6 on Performance of Building Construction.

Book Synopsis Structural Wood Design by : Abi Aghayere
Download or read book Structural Wood Design written by Abi Aghayere and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text provides a concise and practical guide to timber design, using both the Allowable Stress Design and the Load and Resistance Factor Design methods. It suits students in civil, structural, and construction engineering programs as well as engineering technology and architecture programs, and also serves as a valuable resource for the practicing engineer. The examples based on real-world design problems reflect a holistic view of the design process that better equip the reader for timber design in practice. This new edition now includes the LRFD method with some design examples using LRFD for joists, girders and axially load members. is based on the 2015 NDS and 2015 IBC model code. includes a more in-depth discussion of framing and framing systems commonly used in practice, such as, metal plate connected trusses, rafter and collar tie framing, and pre-engineered framing. includes sample drawings, drawing notes and specifications that might typically be used in practice. includes updated floor joist span charts that are more practical and are easy to use. includes a chapter on practical considerations covering topics like flitch beams, wood poles used for footings, reinforcement of existing structures, and historical data on wood properties. includes a section on long span and high rise wood structures includes an enhanced student design project

Download or read book Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Innovative Solutions in Hydropower Engineering and Civil Engineering written by Shuren Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-20 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book is compilation of selected papers from 2nd International Conference on Innovative Solutions in Hydropower Engineering and Civil Engineering (HECE 2022). The work focuses on novel techniques for topics in hydropower and sustainable development, maximizing and communicating the multiple benefits of hydro, the food-water-energy nexus approach, synergy among the renewables, making hydro more competitive (managing and mitigating risk), regional development through power trading, hydropower technology, civil engineering, materials for dams and appurtenant works, advances in design and construction techniques, recent developments in dam construction, monitoring and engineering for safe structures and sites. Hydropower offers significant potential for carbon emissions reductions. The installed capacity of hydropower by the end of 2008 contributed 16% of worldwide electricity supply, and hydropower remains the largest source of renewable energy in the electricity sector. The contents make valuable contributions to academic researchers, engineers in the industry, and regulators of hydropower and civil engineering authorities.
