Book excerpt: Objectifs de l'étude : lister les symptômes identifiés précocement, susceptibles d'être en lien avec le trouble de l'audition de l'enfant, évaluer le délai de prise en charge et leur intégration scolaire. Connaître les pratiques de dépistage des troubles auditifs du nourrisson utilisés par les médecins généralistes. - Matériel et méthode : en Franche-Comté, envoi d'un questionnaire à 217 familles d'enfants malentendants et enquête de pratique auprès de 110 médecins généralistes. Respectivement 94 et 101 réponses ont pu être analysées. - Résultats : 53% des enfants issus de l'enquête ont moins de 2 ans, 39% ont entre 2 et 5 ans et 8% ont plus de 5 ans. Chez 73% des enfants, un signe susceptible d'évoquer un trouble de l'audition est retrouvé entre 0 et 6 mois, alors que la moyenne des âges de suspicion est de 22 mois. L'âge médian du diagnostic reste tardif, de 24 mois, et le délai entre suspicion et diagnostic est en moyenne de 7,5 mois. Dans 75% des cas, les parents suspectent en premier lieu les signes susceptibles d'évoquer un trouble auditif. Les surdités de ces enfants sont dans 69% des cas des surdités profondes. De la naissance à 24 mois, dans 79% et 78% des cas, les praticiens ont respectivement une pratique d'interrogatoire et de tests personnels estimée pertinente. - Conclusion : La surdité est le déficit sensoriel le plus fréquent. La présence des premiers signes dans 3/4 des cas avant l'âge de 6 mois, alors que le diagnostic reste tardif, montre l'importance de l'examen dans les premiers mois de vie. L'interrogatoire et l'écoute des parents sont essentiels lors de la recherche des troubles auditifs.
