Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about me and the adversity that he has beset me in this community due to my diagnosed mental illness and my advocacy for the mentally ill. Many of the poems come from life experiences in the past and absorb the reality of death. There were days when no one encouraged me, many ignored me, and others talked about me. This weaved in and out of the poetry when I felt this pain and wrote it out in my poetry. There are also poems relating to nature that revive my mind and inspires me to continue on. America is in some of my poems and how I feel that a nation has come so far but up at a standstill now. I listen to the news everyday because when I graduated in 1963, that was what we were told to do- keep up with the news because the world would get smaller and my poetry reflects what is going on in the world today. This book is a combination of adversity, nature, death, and world conflict. And I think all can relate to my book in diverse ways. My name is Peggy Marie Ridge Oliver, mother of two children, and grandmother of eight. The last I counted. I have a B.A. degree in social work and was pursuing a second B.A. degree in English Literature/Creative writing which was not a completed due to a medical condition. On top of all this, I have had a mental illness for 30 years and accomplished all of the above. Most professional people, especially in the mental health field, say I am a remarkable woman because many people with a diagnosed mental illness do not accomplish this in a lifetime.

Book excerpt: From the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of Our Crowd comes this suspenseful novel of a suburban marriage—and the betrayal that threatens to tear it apart. Barbara Greer is the blue-chip product of an old money Connecticut family. But she leaves the world of New England society behind when she marries Carson, a solidly middle-class salesman from the Pennsylvania town her family has always owned. Her new suburban life in Locustville is peaceful, quaint, and terribly dull. Barbara has suddenly become another bored housewife longing for a little intrigue. But on a trip back home, she finds more than she bargained for . . . In his acclaimed social histories, Stephen Birmingham offered a revealing view into the rarefied world of America’s upper classes. Now he brings his eye for human drama and telling detail to this intimate portrait of a woman caught between two worlds.

Book excerpt: The field of nursing has been built and shaped by outstanding and innovative nurses like those who share their words of nursing wisdom here. Many of these participating nurses devote their time and talents to research, many have written journal articles and text books that are used on a daily basis, many train other nurses, and each and every one of them have devoted themselves to caring for patients and have helped evolve the medical specialty of nursing into the vibrant, diverse, and challenging field that it is today. It would be amazing to have the opportunity to sit down with each of these nurses in person and absorb as much of their knowledge as possible, to hear their stories and their words of wisdom. But we all know that this is impossible because we are all in different locations around the country. Let this book be a way for you to have a brief meeting with these amazing nurses. I think you will find, as I have in my own medical education and practice, and in compiling this book, that they have much wisdom to share.

This book was released on 2018-06-28 with total page 725 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This 5th edition is an important achievement; it is a symbol of commitment to the field of palliative nursing, where we have been and where we are going.” - Betty Rolling Ferrell, PhD, MA, FAAN, FPCN, CHPN From the Foreword The aging population has only grown since the first edition of this comprehensive and seminal publication nearly 20 years ago. Based on the need to humanize rather than medicalize the illness experience for patients, this text delves into palliative care beyond the specific diseases affecting the patient. Instead, content focuses on the whole person and family. Palliative patients struggle with chronic, debilitating, and painful conditions, and grapple with the fact that life as they knew it has already passed away. Families and friends reciprocally suffer, not knowing how to help and therefore become the secondary victims of the disease. This is not the challenge of a lone nurse, or a single physician, therapist, or social worker. Rather, palliative and hospice care requires the expertise and unique roles of an interprofessional team to help the patient and family strengthen their resilience, continue to find meaning and purpose in life, and cure what can be cured. Palliative Care Nursing, Fifth Edition, delivers advanced empirical, aesthetic, ethical and personal knowledge. This new edition brings an increased focus on outcomes, benchmarking progress, and goals of care. It expounds upon the importance of the cross-disciplinary collaboration introduced in the previous edition. Every chapter in Sections I, II, and III includes content written by a non-nursing member of the interprofessional team. Based on best-evidence and clinical practice guidelines, this text presents comprehensive, targeted interventions responsive to the needs of palliative and hospice patients and family. Each chapter contains compassionate, timely, appropriate, and cost-effective care for diverse populations across the illness trajectory. Key Features The expanded new edition offers current, comprehensive, one-stop source of highly-relevant clinical information on palliative care Life-span approach: age-appropriate nursing considerations (e.g. geriatric, pediatric and family) Includes disease-specific and symptom-specific nursing management chapters Promotes a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to palliative care Offers important legal, ethical and cultural considerations related to death and dying Case Studies with Case Study Conclusion in each clinical chapter New to The Fifth Edition: An expanded chapter on Palliative Care incorporates most up to date scope and standards, information on Basic and Advanced HPNA certification, self-reflection and self-care for nurses. A chapter on Interprofessional Collaboration Instructor Resources: Power points and Test bank

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Penny-pinching bookseller Henry Earlforward harbours a desperate love for his neighbour and customer Violet. After he succeeds in wooing and marrying her, their marriage begins to fall into ruins as Violet’s spending clashes with Henry’s miserly nature. As Henry’s health begins to decline, their loyal maid Elsie attempts to keep the household afloat, secretly waiting for her shellshocked love, Joe, to return for her. Set in Clerkenwell, London, Arnold Bennett’s ‘Riceyman Steps’ (1923) is a bittersweet tale that marked a significant departure from his other works. Fans of heart wrenching love stories will enjoy this early 20th century classic that reads like a cross between Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ and Jojo Moyes’ ‘Me Before You’. Enoch Arnold Bennett (1867 – 1931), better known as Arnold Bennett, was an English writer of novels, short stories and plays. The eldest of six children, Bennett grew up in Staffordshire as part of a cultured artistic family. His first novel, ‘A Man From The North’, was published in 1898 to critical acclaim but little commercial success. However, his prolific output soon made him a successful author, and by the time of his death at 63 he was a household name with many published classics. Bennett is best remembered for his novels ‘Anna of the Five Towns’ (1902), ‘The Old Wives’ Tale’ (1908), ‘Clayhanger’ (1910) and ‘Riceyman Steps’ (1923). His work frequently dealt with real-life issues and have been loved for their relatability and the keen insight they offer into the everyday. Posthumously recognised as a literary genius, Bennett’s works have had frequent comparisons to those of his contemporaries such as H.G. Wells and John Galsworthy.
