Download or read book Deaddies written by Tobias Rehberger and published by Hopeful Monster. This book was released on 2002 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Deaddies": a sarcastic-sounding neologism that can be found in no dictionary, but is by now well established in American slang. Its lexicographic roots stem from both the father and death, thereby providing a convenient shorthand for the Oedipal complex, while at the same time sounding cute when spoken out loud. Tobias Rehberger took this word as the name for his exhibition in Turin, and he takes it again as the title of this book. From his earliest works thorugh his most recent, the span of which is represented in this publication, Rehberger has perplexed viewers by confronting them with his constant production of new and unusual methods of art making. Uncategorizable in their ever varying style and medium, Rehberger's works share an existence as open communication systems, in both their production and their reception. Often reflecting the artist's preoccupation with his personal environment--his friends, other artists, gallery owners, and art collectors--Rehberger's installations create public spaces for unexpected but familiar interractions, questioning context, society, and environmental issues.
Book Synopsis Biblical Narrative and the Formation of Rabbinic Law by : Jane L. Kanarek
Download or read book Biblical Narrative and the Formation of Rabbinic Law written by Jane L. Kanarek and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a new framework for understanding the relationship between biblical narrative and rabbinic law. Drawing on legal theory and models of rabbinic exegesis, Jane L. Kanarek argues for the centrality of biblical narrative in the formation of rabbinic law. Through close readings of selected Talmudic and midrashic texts, Kanarek demonstrates that rabbinic legal readings of narrative scripture are best understood through the framework of a referential exegetical web. She shows that law should be viewed as both prescriptive of normative behavior and as a meaning-making enterprise. By explicating the hermeneutical processes through which biblical narratives become resources for legal norms, this book transforms our understanding of the relationship of law and narrative as well as the ways in which scripture becomes a rabbinic document that conveys legal authority and meaning.

Book excerpt: The book of Romans clarifies the principle of justification, whether it is by deeds of the law, or by the work of God. The law has never been a means of salvation. Download or read book No...I Won't Go There written by Donald H. Ledbetter Th.D. and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-07-26 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this writing, we have considered how Jesus set the pattern for our early Christian faith in the Great Commission and how a spiritual battle can be expected as we learn to overcome the old sin nature. We learn that the baptism by the Holy Spirit occurs when the Holy Spirit immerses the new believer spiritually into the death of Jesus on the cross. As the new believer surrenders to the indwelling Christ, the filling of the Holy Spirit is experienced. However, when we sin against the Holy Spirit by lying to, grieving, or quenching Him, our fellowship with Jesus is broken and must be restored by confessing our sin. Because we have the power of the resurrected Christ living in us, we begin our new life in Christ from the position of victory, seated together with Jesus in heavenly places. Even though we have this position of victory, we are tempted by the old sin nature, but a way of escape is provided by our saying, "No, I won't go there," to the temptation. Through this journey we learn to surrender our all to Jesus so He becomes our life as we live each day here on this earth. When we do this, Jesus lives His life through ours. It is my earnest prayer this book will enable us to understand how much God loves us and who we have become in Christ. Because of who Christ is in us through the Holy Spirit, we have the authority to say no to the temptation of sin. When Jesus is our life we live with joy, peace, and victory in our hearts, whatever the circumstances of life may be.

Book Synopsis The Pleasures of Structure by : Julian Hoxter
Download or read book The Pleasures of Structure written by Julian Hoxter and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pleasures of Structure starts from the premise that the ability to develop a well understood and articulated story structure is the most important skill a screenwriter can develop. For example, good structure requires a great premise and rigorous character development. Without clear character motivations and goals--which are themselves indicative of key structural beats--your story is going exactly nowhere. Using the simple and flexible 'W' model of screenplay structure developed in the prequel Write What You Don't Know, Hoxter sets this out as its starting point. This model is tested against a range of examples which are chosen to explore the flexibility not only of that model but of movie storytelling more generally. Writers and students often worry that they are asked to work 'to formula'. This book will test that formula to breaking point. For example, the first case study will offer the example of a well written, professional, mainstream movie against which our later and more adventurous examples can be compared. So the lessons we learn examining the animated family adventure movie How To Train Your Dragon lead us directly to ask questions of our second case study, the acclaimed Swedish vampire movie Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let The Right One In). Both movies have protagonists with the same basic problem, the same goal, and they use the same basic structure to tell their stories. Of course they are very different films and they work on their audiences in very different ways. Our linked case studies will expose how simple choices, like reversing the order of elements of the protagonist's transformational arc and shifting ownership of key story beats, has an enormous impact on how we respond to a structural model that is otherwise functionally identical.
