Book Synopsis Encyclopedia of Early Modern Philosophy and the Sciences by : Dana Jalobeanu
Download or read book Encyclopedia of Early Modern Philosophy and the Sciences written by Dana Jalobeanu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-27 with total page 2267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Encyclopedia offers a fresh, integrated and creative perspective on the formation and foundations of philosophy and science in European modernity. Combining careful contextual reconstruction with arguments from traditional philosophy, the book examines methodological dimensions, breaks down traditional oppositions such as rationalism vs. empiricism, calls attention to gender issues, to ‘insiders and outsiders’, minor figures in philosophy, and underground movements, among many other topics. In addition, and in line with important recent transformations in the fields of history of science and early modern philosophy, the volume recognizes the specificity and significance of early modern science and discusses important developments including issues of historiography (such as historical epistemology), the interplay between the material culture and modes of knowledge, expert knowledge and craft knowledge. This book stands at the crossroads of different disciplines and combines their approaches – particularly the history of science, the history of philosophy, contemporary philosophy of science, and intellectual and cultural history. It brings together over 100 philosophers, historians of science, historians of mathematics, and medicine offering a comprehensive view of early modern philosophy and the sciences. It combines and discusses recent results from two very active fields: early modern philosophy and the history of (early modern) science. Book Synopsis ESD — The Scourge of Electronics by : Sten Hellström
Download or read book ESD — The Scourge of Electronics written by Sten Hellström and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on electrostatic discharge phenomena is essentially a translation and update ofa Swedish edition from 1992. The book is intended for people working with electronic circuits and equipments, in application and development. All personnel should be aware of the ESD-hazards, especially those responsible for quality. ESD-prevention is a part of TQM (Total Quality Management). The book is also usable for courses on the subject. Background It was soon realised that the MOS-circuits (MOS=Metal Oxide Semiconductor), which appeared in the beginning of the 1960-ties were sensitive to electrostatic discharges. But a severe accident accelerated the search for materials that do not generate electric charges. In April 1964 three people were working inside a satellite at Cape Kennedy Space Center. They suddenly screamed "we are burning". They died. The satellite incapsulation was covered with untreated plastics to protect against dust. When the plastics was pulled off both this and the metal incapsulating got charged. A discharge from the metal ignited inflammable parts of the satellite. Eleven more people were injured and the cost of the accident amounted to about 55 billions USD.
Book Synopsis New Science Theory and On The Magnet by : Vincent Wilmot
Download or read book New Science Theory and On The Magnet written by Vincent Wilmot and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-01-03 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book is basically the New-Science-Theory.com site as on 1 January 2018, for changes since then visit the website with its Sitemap noting updates. It is especially good for those interested in physics theory, concentrating chiefly on the four great physicists William Gilbert, Rene Descartes, Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein - and also having fine sections on Galileo, Kepler, History of Science, Gravity, Light, String Theory, Standard Model Physics, Probability Science, Philosophy of Science and General Image Theory Science. The second book is a new improved English translation of William Gilbert's banned Latin 1600 'De Magnete' or 'On The Magnet'. This is rather easier to read than its two earlier translations, and significantly helps to clarify Gilbert's 'attraction' physics which Newton put as one of the two mathematized physics options and which he is believed to have privately favoured. It is basically a novel signal-response or remote-control physics that may still have relevance.

Book Synopsis The Spinning Magnet by : Alanna Mitchell
Download or read book The Spinning Magnet written by Alanna Mitchell and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mystery of Earth's invisible, life-supporting power Alanna Mitchell's globe-trotting history of the science of electromagnetism and the Earth's magnetic field--right up to the latest indications that the North and South Poles may soon reverse, with apocalyptic results--will soon change the way you think about our planet. Award-winning journalist Alanna Mitchell's science storytelling introduce intriguing characters--from the thirteenth-century French investigations into magnetism and the Victorian-era discover that electricity and magnetism emerge from the same fundamental force to the latest research. No one has ever told so eloquently how the Earth itself came to be seen as a magnet, spinning in space with two poles, and that those poles have dramatically reversed many time, often coinciding with mass extinctions. The most recent reversal was 780,000 years ago. Mitchell explores indications that the Earth's magnetic force field is decaying faster than previously thought. When the poles switch, a process that takes many years, the Earth is unprotected from solar radiation storms that would, among other disturbances, wipe out much and possible all of our electromagnetic technology. Navigation for all kinds of animals is disrupted without a stable, magnetic North Pole. But can you imagine no satellites, no Internet, no smartphones--maybe no power grids at all? Alanna Mitchell offers a beautifully crafted narrative history of surprising ideas and science, illuminating invisible parts of our own planet that are constantly changing around us.
