Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two reflections that form this book do not claim to mediate in the conflict between naive piety and scientific exegesis. They arise from the conviction that only the Scriptures of the New Covenant, taken as witnesses of faith and in their entirety, can produce a tangible and credible portrait of Jesus Christ, whereas every critical attempt to approach him from a position other than that of the faith witnessed to in the Scriptures can only result in a pallid, distorted picture unworthy of belief (and hence devoid of interest). It is a fact: only the person who is convinced that Jesus knows him personally gains access to knowledge of him. And only the person who is confident of knowing him as he is, can know that he is also known by him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to readers' comments, this revised edition provides helpful clarifications, charts, and expanded notes and references. Kraus, in a theological description of Jesus Christ, offers answers to questions of Jesus' identity and the nature of the revelation-salvation which came through him. This anticipates his volume, 'God Our Savior', dealing with implications of Christ's revelation for other data of theology, such as God, humankind, the Holy Spirit, church, and eschatology. For many years the idea of vicarious suffering to atone for the sins of humanity has not been self-evident in Western culture, to say nothing of the cultures of Asia. Western theologians have presupposed Roman categories of guilt and legal penalty as the framework for their explanations. However, this has been unsatisfactory in cultures where social tradition and shame are primary moral sanctions. Observing that the biblical cultural context was more oriented to shame than to a legal concept of guilt, Kraus has reinterpreted the meaning and efficacy of the cross as the means of God's salvation. Such a reinterpretation requires that one also reevaluate the theological definition of Jesus' person. How one understands what he did for us is closely related to how one understands who he was. His identity and role mutually impact each other. Thus one must ask, Who was this one who reconciled us to God by suffering the shame of our sin? In answer, Kraus finds concepts of self-identity and self-revelation most helpful. Jesus, the self-revelation of God to us, is God-giving-himself-to-us. That self-revelation comes as a self-giving, and only in the form of a genuinely personal, historical, and human relationship. In all of this the author intends to present an authentically biblical picture of Jesus, but in the context of modern language and thought forms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book, Jesus Lives, gives a thought-provoking introduction to Jesus starting with initial basics and building up to more powerful understandings as seen in the bible. Jesus Christ is a figure of immense importance to many people around the world. To some, He is a symbol of hope and salvation, while to others He is a source of inspiration and guidance. To many, Jesus Christ is the embodiment of love and compassion, and a reminder of the power of faith and forgiveness. For Christians, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, sent to Earth to save humanity from its sins. He is seen as the ultimate example of self-sacrifice and unconditional love, and His teachings are seen as a source of moral guidance and spiritual enlightenment. Jesus is also seen as a symbol of hope and redemption, and His death and resurrection are seen as a sign of God's love and mercy. For many, Jesus Christ is a source of comfort and strength in times of difficulty and despair. His teachings provide a sense of peace and assurance, and His example of selfless love and service is seen as a model for how to live a life of faith and purpose. For some, Jesus Christ is a symbol of justice and equality, and His teachings are seen as a call to action for social justice and equality. His example of standing up for the oppressed and marginalized is seen as a reminder of the importance of standing up for what is right and just. No matter what one's beliefs may be, Jesus Christ is a figure of immense importance to many people around the world. He is seen as a source of hope, inspiration, and guidance, and His teachings are seen as a source of moral and spiritual enlightenment. He is a symbol of love, compassion, and justice, and His example of selfless service and unconditional love is seen as a model for how to live a life of faith and purpose. The stories of Jesus Christ are some of the most significant stories in history. They tell of a man who was born in humble circumstances, yet who was destined to become the Savior of the world. One of the most important scriptures about Jesus is found in John 3:16, which says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." This verse tells us that God loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for us, and that if we believe in Him, we will have eternal life. Jesus can give you a lot of things, depending on what you need. He can give you peace, comfort, and hope in times of distress. He can give you strength and courage to face difficult situations. Putting Jesus as a priority in your life is a great way to live a life of purpose and meaning. It is important to remember that Jesus is the ultimate source of love, joy, and peace. He is the one who can provide us with the strength and courage to face any challenge that comes our way. Making sure you don't turn away from Jesus Christ is an important part of living a life of faith. It can be difficult to stay focused on Jesus when life gets busy, and you're faced with temptations and distractions. Accepting Jesus into your life is a life-changing decision that can bring you closer to God and help you to live a life of purpose and joy. It is a decision that requires a commitment to follow Jesus and to live according to His teachings. Meditating on the Bible is an important part of following Christ. It is a way to connect with God and to learn more about Him. The Bible is the Word of God, and it contains all the truths and principles that we need to live a life of faith and obedience to Him. When we meditate on the Bible, we are allowing God to speak to us and to reveal His will and His plans for our lives. Praising Jesus in your daily routine is a great way to stay connected to your faith and to keep your focus on Him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The self-consciousness and human knowledge of Christ is a contemporary christological issue which seeks to understand the awareness that the God-man, Jesus Christ, possessed of himself during his life on earth. The present question primarily concerns itself with exploring how the Son knows that he is the Son in his human mind. Traditionally this question has been asked and answered that, through the beatific vision, the Son knew himself as divine in his human mind. However, recent theories advanced by scholars seem to preclude any notion of beatific knowledge in the Incarnate Son. This book explores the perspectives of three main authors, Jacques Maritain, Karl Rahner, and Thomas Weinandy, in relation to the present question, and attempts to provide an answer for how the Incarnate Son apprehended his divine identity through his human operations. Considered also is the scope of Christ’s human knowledge with regard to two specific objects of knowledge. These concern whether the Son as man had an awareness of those for whom he gave his life (Gal 2:20) and whether the Son was really ignorant of the eschatological final “day and hour” (Mark 13:32; Matt 24:36).

Book excerpt: Reflections on Christ, from a beloved spiritual writer A. W. Tozer was a man of remarkable knowledge, an avid reader of Christian writers and philosophers from throughout the ages. But he meditated on the Bible. He was, like John Wesley, “a man of one Book and a student of many.” Combine this with his poignant writing style and you have works like this one, high thoughts of God brought low, yet no less moving. Jesus: The Life and Ministry of God the Son features selections from Tozer’s writings on the God-man, Jesus Christ. It follows the chronology of Christ's earthly life and explores classic themes of Christology, helping readers better comprehend and appreciate Jesus’ person and work. When you set out to study Christ, you want to behold His splendor the best you can. That’s why writers like A. W. Tozer are excellent guides: they love the Lord, know Him well, and yet have a way with the written word. They're able to lay the weight of glory on the human heart as few can. Read Jesus and appreciate anew the Savior of the world and the power of the written word to glorify His name.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life of Jesus Christ takes on fresh clarity and meaning in this masterful work by Dwight Pentecost. The words, the miracles, and overarching message of the Messiah come alive in flowing and detailed chronology, set against the cultural, political, and religious setting of his day. You'll gain new understanding of why Jesus came, how he operated, and what he accomplished. Above all, you'll acquire a deeper appreciation for the love that guided his path, beginning in a manger in Bethlehem, leading through three and a half years of ministry that ended abruptly at the cross on Golgotha, and blazing forth in eternal triumph at the resurrection. Drawing liberally on the works of others who have written about Christ, such as Alfred Edersheim, J. W. Shepherd, W. Graham Scroggie, and Frederick Faraar, Dr. Pentecost reveals in his own writing a familiarity with the subject that comes from years of teaching. Yet he writes, not as one who knows all there is to know about Christ, but with the restraint of one who knows that Jesus is to be worshiped and adored as the great King, and that no book can do more than begin to tell all the wonders of his being and his love.

Book excerpt: The book is a doctrinal study on the life and ministry of Jesus Christ and is widely appreciated by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The book consists of 42 chapters, each focusing on important aspects of the life and mission of Jesus as the Messiah.Since it was first published in September 1915, Jesus the Christ has been viewed by the LDS Church as a classic text on its teachings and beliefs concerning the life and ministry of Jesus. Marion G. Romney said, "One who gets the understanding, the vision, and the spirit of the resurrected Lord through a careful study of the text Jesus the Christ by Elder James E. Talmage will find that he has greatly increased his moving faith in our glorified Redeemer."In his preface to the first edition, Talmage wrote: "The author has departed from the course usually followed by writers on the Life of Jesus Christ, which course, as a rule, begins with the birth of Mary's Babe and ends with the ascension of the slain and risen Lord from Olivet. The treatment embodied in these pages, in addition to the narrative of the Lord's life in the flesh, comprises the antemortal existence and activities of the world's Redeemer, the revelations and personal manifestations of the glorified and exalted Son of God during the apostolic period of old and in modern times, the assured nearness of the Lord's second advent, and predicted events beyond—all so far as the Holy Scriptures make it plain. It is particularly congruous and appropriate that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—the only Church that affirms authority based on specific revelation and commission to use the Lord's Holy Name as a distinctive designation—should set forth her doctrines concerning the Messiah and His mission."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
