Book Synopsis Surinaams contrast by : A.A. van Stipriaan
Download or read book Surinaams contrast written by A.A. van Stipriaan and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-03-20 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Christianity in Suriname written by Franklin Steven Jabini and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11-14 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Republic of Suriname, located in northern South America has a rich and diverse history going back several centuries. This has seen the introduction of Christianity and the establishment and creation of many church denominations. To date, major theological works have failed to provide correct, balanced and informative dialogue on the history of Christianity and its developments in Suriname. In response to the lack of information available to the academic world this publication aims to provide a survey of the history, a summary of the works of theologians and a guide to reliable sources about Christianity in Suriname. Through overviewing the history of the major denominations in Suriname and focusing on some major issues surrounding Christianity the author delivers a unique single volume for both the general reader and a starting point for further research.

Book Synopsis Een zwarte vrijstaat in Suriname by : H.U.E. Thoden van Velzen
Download or read book Een zwarte vrijstaat in Suriname written by H.U.E. Thoden van Velzen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis White Lies and Black Markets by : Karwan Fatah-Black
Download or read book White Lies and Black Markets written by Karwan Fatah-Black and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-04-21 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In White Lies and Black Markets, Fatah-Black offers a new account of the colonization of Suriname—one of the major European plantation colonies on the Guiana Coast—in the period between 1650-1800. While commonly portrayed as an isolated tropical outpost, this study places the colony in the context of its connections to the rest of the Atlantic world. These economic and migratory links assured the colony’s survival, but also created many incentives to evade the mercantilistically inclined metropolitan authorities. By combining the available data on Dutch and North American shipping with accounts of major political and economic developments, the author uncovers a hitherto hidden world of illicit dealings, and convincingly argues that these illegal practices were essential to the development and survival of the colony, and woven into the fabric of the colonial project itself.

Book Synopsis We Slaves of Suriname by : Anton de Kom
Download or read book We Slaves of Suriname written by Anton de Kom and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-01-19 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anton de Kom’s We Slaves of Suriname is a literary masterpiece as well as a fierce indictment of racism and colonialism. In this classic book, published here in English for the first time, the Surinamese writer and resistance leader recounts the history of his homeland, from the first settlements by Europeans in search of gold through the era of the slave trade and the period of Dutch colonial rule, when the old slave mentality persisted, long after slavery had been formally abolished. 159 years after the abolition of slavery in Suriname and 88 years after its initial publication, We Slaves of Suriname has lost none of its brilliance and power.
