Book excerpt: Every Christian knows the importance of a daily quiet time with the Lord. But anyone who's been a believer long enough has likely experienced seasons that feel more mundane or routine, leading to aimlessly skimming a couple of Bible verses or praying the same prayer over and over. In Be Thou My Vision, Jonathan Gibson has created a 31-day liturgical guide designed to provide structure to the daily worship of individuals and families. Each daily reading includes a call to worship, adoration, confession, assurance, creed and catechism, the Gloria Patri, a prayer of illumination, Bible reading, intercessory prayer, and the Lord's Prayer. Designed to be read in 15–20 minutes a day, this beautifully produced liturgy will give readers focus and purpose to their daily quiet time while teaching them historical prayers, creeds, and catechisms that point them to Christ.

Book Synopsis The Leeds Liturgy by : Raymond Creed
Download or read book The Leeds Liturgy written by Raymond Creed and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Leeds Liturgy' encourages Christians to worship God "in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24). It does this by proclaiming scripture teaching in a unique and interactive manner. An attempt is made to address the question; 'How can we honour God in our worship?' It helps rebuild Christianity by providing a practical worship aid and a more thorough engagement with Bible doctrine. By acting as a focus of unity, this resource could also sustain Christians during what could be very difficult times of persecution and mass deception. Specific sections are geared to helping Christians to discern the will of God by receiving and checking any guidance from the Holy Spirit. Objective tests are provided in order to help in the assessment of spiritual occurrences. Two articles at the end, argue that bible-based liturgies and creeds can be legitimate means of encountering God.

Book Synopsis Lord, Make Me An Instrument of Your Peace by : Jon M. Sweeney
Download or read book Lord, Make Me An Instrument of Your Peace written by Jon M. Sweeney and published by Paraclete Press. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Complete Prayers of St. Francis and St. Clare, with Selections from Brother Juniper, St. Anthony of Padua, and Other Early Franciscans We do not immediately associate Francis and Clare with prayer and praying. St. Francis, according to the most common legends, rarely sat still. St. Clare did, more so, but that was probably mostly because of the convent and the grille and the conventions of the time: she couldn’t be a walkabout friar. However, they did sit still. And they stood. And they danced. And they fasted. And they sang. In all these ways, Francis and Clare prayed for hours each day, as did the brothers and sisters who came after them on the Franciscan way. This prayer book gathers the stories and words of the prayer life and prayers of these remarkable Christians.

Book Synopsis Music, Discipline, and Arms in Early Modern France by : Kate van Orden
Download or read book Music, Discipline, and Arms in Early Modern France written by Kate van Orden and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking new study, Kate van Orden examines noble education in the arts to show how music contributed to cultural and social transformation in early modern French society. She constructs a fresh account of music's importance in promoting the absolutism that the French monarchy would fully embrace under Louis XIV, uncovering many hitherto unpublished ballets and royal ceremonial performances. The great pressure on French noblemen to take up the life of the warrior gave rise to bellicose art forms such as sword dances and equestrian ballets. Far from being construed as effeminizing, such combinations of music and the martial arts were at once refined and masculine-a perfect way to display military prowess. The incursion of music into riding schools and infantry drills contributed materially to disciplinary order, enabling the larger and more effective armies of the seventeenth century. This book is a history of the development of these musical spheres and how they brought forth new cultural priorities of civility, military discipline, and political harmony. Music, Discipline, and Arms in Early Modern France effectively illustrates the seminal role music played in mediating between the cultural spheres of letters and arms.
