The Bible reveals that there will be a second nation of Babylon, which is described in detail throughout scripture and can be identified as America. The bible not only identifies America, but also gives detailed accounts of future events concerning her. God has much to say to us today about our relationship to Babylon and the Babylonian religion. This book reveals that many of the symbols of the Babylonian religion that was created by Lucifer himself, King of Babylon, are displayed as American symbols throughout her Capitol. The American Capitol itself is linked directly to the founding of Babel by its cornerstone.

Book excerpt: Generations lay claim to their souls. Can these daughters overcome? In the southern United States, while freedom rang for those afore that was bound by slavery; Tara Bell, Betty Mae, Daughter, and Lanel's journey to freedom was just getting started. Even as Tara Bell, Betty Mae and Daughter wrestled to find their own identities in the mist of puberty, a generation of tragedy and curses pursued them. For Daughter, a mother's love was taken away and replaced with resentment and contempt. Tara Bell silently mourned a father who walks out of his only child's life, perhaps chased away by the demons of an emotionally dysfunctional wife. Abandoned as an infant, Betty Mae fights for her right to be loved and encounters sexual bondage after being seduced and abused by the good Reverend. Lanel Wayne, or Boston as she is affectionately called, becomes shelter for those wounded and battles with the loss of her husband and letting go of the hate that might drive her to kill the one she considers responsible. Through each woman's hardship, friendship and family become the keys to survival. God's plan for all of their lives involves a covenant that will transcend generations to come.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Daughters of Babylon: A Novel Elcia sat by the well of Naomi. It was towards evening, and the glaring heat of the sun was tempered by a soft breeze full of the thrilling coolness that only desert winds know. Through the palms about the well the lemon light slanted across the dark head, with its heavy mass of hair, that was bowed as if in deep meditation or in grief. In the distance, softened and sweetly melancholy, there was the sound of singing voices. For in the fields, among the flocks and the herds, the people of Elcia's tribe, sons and daughters of Israel in captivity to Babylon, chanted the hymns of their ancient faith as they watched the grazing cattle, tended the nibbling sheep, or wrought at making packs for the camels in the doors of their tents. These same tents were hidden from the great eyes of Elcia, for the well lay apart, and, at this moment, there were no stalwart shepherds or herdsmen discussing the tributes paid to the Babylonish king, or, with lowered voices, whispering of the hour when Israel should be free, and mourning be turned into the joy that cannot live in slavery. Book excerpt: Babylon Girls is a groundbreaking cultural history of the African American women who performed in variety shows—chorus lines, burlesque revues, cabaret acts, and the like—between 1890 and 1945. Through a consideration of the gestures, costuming, vocal techniques, and stagecraft developed by African American singers and dancers, Jayna Brown explains how these women shaped the movement and style of an emerging urban popular culture. In an era of U.S. and British imperialism, these women challenged and played with constructions of race, gender, and the body as they moved across stages and geographic space. They pioneered dance movements including the cakewalk, the shimmy, and the Charleston—black dances by which the “New Woman” defined herself. These early-twentieth-century performers brought these dances with them as they toured across the United States and around the world, becoming cosmopolitan subjects more widely traveled than many of their audiences. Investigating both well-known performers such as Ada Overton Walker and Josephine Baker and lesser-known artists such as Belle Davis and Valaida Snow, Brown weaves the histories of specific singers and dancers together with incisive theoretical insights. She describes the strange phenomenon of blackface performances by women, both black and white, and she considers how black expressive artists navigated racial segregation. Fronting the “picaninny choruses” of African American child performers who toured Britain and the Continent in the early 1900s, and singing and dancing in The Creole Show (1890), Darktown Follies (1913), and Shuffle Along (1921), black women variety-show performers of the early twentieth century paved the way for later generations of African American performers. Brown shows not only how these artists influenced transnational ideas of the modern woman but also how their artistry was an essential element in the development of jazz.
