Schließlich soll der Stand der Forschung anhand von zwei Studien mit Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen aufgezeigt werden. Counter-Strike ist eines der beliebtesten Ego-Shooter weltweit und es wird von mehreren Hunderttausend Menschen gespielt. Nach dem Amok-Lauf an einer Erfurter Schule im Jahr 2002 und dem Tod von zwölf Menschen kam es auch in Deutschland zu einer Debatte, ob sich Amokläufer gezielt mit Ego-Shootern wie Counter-Strike auf ihre Tat vorbereiten würden Psycholog*innen argumentieren, dass den Jugendlichen in diesen Spielen durch das gezielte Töten falsche Werte vermittelt werden. So sollen Ego-Shooter das Mitgefühl minimieren und fortwährend zu einer Abstumpfung der Gefühle führen.
