Book Synopsis Ignatian Spirituality at Ecclesial Frontiers by : Fredrik Heiding S.J.
Download or read book Ignatian Spirituality at Ecclesial Frontiers written by Fredrik Heiding S.J. and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order, presuppose Roman Catholicism, but are today made by many who are not Catholics. Moreover, even Roman Catholics who make Ignatian Exercises often are not spontaneously inclined to obey Roman ecclesiastical authority. Neither avoiding the ecclesial dimension nor an authoritarian 'follow the rules!' provides adequate orientation when working with issues at Church frontiers. This ground-breaking study in pastoral theology seeks to navigate a middle position by moving beyond the individualism and the a-historical assumptions of the existing relevant literature. The aim of this book is to take Ignatian studies forward by combining relational anthropology, hermeneutics and a sacramental understanding of the Church, and to apply this synthesis to the practice of Ignatian Exercises. This book was released on 1993 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illuminates the nature and locus of authority in the Lutheran-Catholic ecumenical dialogue by comparing the concepts of Word of God, church and office in the thought of Catholic theologian Karl Rahner (1904-1984) and Lutheran theologian Gerhard Ebeling (1912- ). The study examines the ontological, anthropological, linguistic and hermeneutical principles underlying their positions. The result is the discovery of some areas of surprising convergence as well as fundamental differences. Finally, the author proposes how, despite deep differences, Rahner's and Ebeling's views are complementary rather than contradictory.

Download or read book Karl Rahner written by Karen Kilby and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-02-24 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karl Rahner is one of the great theologians of the twentieth century, known for his systematic, foundationalist approach. This bold and original book explores the relationship between his theology and his philosophy, and argues for the possibility of a nonfoundationalist reading of Rahner. Karen Kilby calls into question both the admiration of Rahner's disciples for the overarching unity of his though, and the too easy dismissals of critics who object to his 'flawed philosophical staring point' or to his supposedly modern and liberal appeal to experience. Through a lucid and critical exposition of key texts including Spirit in the World and Hearer of the Word, and of themes such as the Vorgriff auf esse, the supernatural existential and the anonymous Christian, Karen Kilby reaffirms Rahner's significance for modern theology and offers a clear exposition of his thought.
Download or read book Spiritual Writings written by Karl Rahner and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Karl Rahner (1904-1984), a Jesuit priest, was one of the most influential Catholic theologians of the twentieth century. A major force at Vatican II, his writings effected a paradigm shift in modern theology. Yet it was the experience of prayer and a deeply mystical faith that animated and inspired his scholarly activity. In the end, Rahner's message was simple and accessible: an appeal to recognize and appropriate God's self-gift, the mystery that Christianity calls grace - a reality that is at least latent in every human mind and heart." "This anthology shows that if Rahner was an important theologian, it was because he was more fundamentally a modern spiritual master."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Synopsis A Spirituality of Everyday Faith by : Declan Marmion
Download or read book A Spirituality of Everyday Faith written by Declan Marmion and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because "spirituality" is such a ubiquitous term today, any attempt to elucidate it more fully is only to be welcomed. Volume 23 in the LTPM series represents a significant contribution in this regard. Beginning with the apostle Paul, Declan Marmion shows how the meaning of the term "spirituality" changed over the centuries. He then offers a useful working definition of spirituality and explores the complicated relationship between spirituality, academic theology, and religious experience. In the main body of the book, Marmion focuses on the spiritual basis of Karl Rahner's theology. Exhibiting a comprehensive knowledge of the primary and secondary literature in this area, Marmion uses Rahner's notion of spirituality to treat such important themes as the nature of God, mystical experience, prayer, love of neighbor, and more.
Book Synopsis Identity, Ethics, and Nonviolence in Postcolonial Theory by : S. Abraham

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abraham argues that a theological imagination can expand the contours of postcolonial theory through a reexamination of notions of subjectivity, gender, and violence in a dialogical model with Karl Rahner. She questions of whether postcolonial theory, with its disavowal of religious agency, can provide an invigorating occasion for Catholic theology.
Book Synopsis Karl Rahner and Ignatian Spirituality by : Philip Endean SJ
Download or read book Karl Rahner and Ignatian Spirituality written by Philip Endean SJ and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2004-08-05 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Karl Rahner SJ (1904-1984), perhaps the most influential figure in twentieth-century Roman Catholic theology, believed that the most significant influence on his work was Ignatius Loyola's Spiritual Exercises. This book casts significant new light on Rahner's achievement by presenting it against the background of the rediscovery of Ignatian spirituality in the middle decades of the twentieth century. It offers a fresh and contemporary theological interpretation of Ignatian retreat-giving, illuminating the creative new departures this ministry has taken in the last thirty years, as well as contributing to the lively current debate regarding the relationship between spirituality and speculative theology.
