Book Synopsis Dams in Africa Cb by : Neville Rubin
Download or read book Dams in Africa Cb written by Neville Rubin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1968. The present volume originated in a seminar which was conducted at the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London during the 1965-66 academic session. With the possible exception of railways, there have been no projects in Africa of comparable size and implications to the giant dams, involving as they do such un-paralleled commitment of resources, with corresponding social, political and legal consequences. Some of these consequences have been considered in the essays presented here, both in the specific context of particular projects and as in the more general context of comparative surveys, by experts who were (with two exceptions) present at the seminar.

Book Synopsis Geology of North Africa and the Mediterranean: Sedimentary Basins and Georesources by : Sami Khomsi
Download or read book Geology of North Africa and the Mediterranean: Sedimentary Basins and Georesources written by Sami Khomsi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-18 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the links between the evolution of sedimentary basins of Northern Africa and Peri-Mediterranean in different tectonic settings and the distribution of georesources in those basins. Georesources include fossil energy, geothermal energy, deep aquifers, minerals and deposits. This book also provides key information for energy resources in these important areas. The book is in part a compilation of selected papers from Atlas Georesources International Congress, Hammamet, Tunisia, (AGIC 2017) which were extended after the congress in addition to other contributions from geoscientists based at some universities and companies from the region. It is organized in a set of research studies focusing on the architecture, geodynamic evolution and modeling of sedimentary basins in the Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean domain. Future developments in the exploration for water, energy and other georesources are very important in these regions. In this context, this book constitutes an important reference for a wide range of geoscientists and companies as it defines the distribution and potentialities of these resources.
Book Synopsis Climate Change and Water Resources in Africa by : Salif Diop
Download or read book Climate Change and Water Resources in Africa written by Salif Diop and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-15 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this book is on the key water-related vulnerabilities to climate change in Africa, particularly in its most vulnerable areas, exploring potential management responses to such vulnerabilities. The African countries are particularly exposed and vulnerable to the negative impacts of climate change, with important impacts on water resources and hydrological systems, water availability, water resource management and sea level variations. Already, under various anthropogenic pressures, the status of water resources in Africa has been changing over the past decades, with decreasing water quality, falling groundwater levels, and variability in rainfall, both in terms of timing and intensity. Climate change will further accelerate the rate of change, affecting the ability of people and societies to respond in a timely manner. It is clear that there is no quick fix to the pressures imposed on water resources by climate change. Increasing the resilience of ecosystems and communities to extreme events such as flooding and drought, and integrating climate change risks and opportunities into development decision-making is indeed a key challenge, as much a technical climate-change one, as a political and developmental challenge. The book, in this regard, intends to contribute to the debate around climate change in relation to water resources management in Africa, and in particular inform policy decisions and actions that will improve governments’ and communities’ ability to manage the challenges of climate change and variability in relation to the aquatic ecosystems that they depend on. The knowledge collected in this book will benefit policy makers, researchers, as well as other stakeholders.
