This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: The book aims at providing an overview of the main economic issues related to tourism activities. While tourism is an important sector, contributing to more than 10% of the European Union’s GDP, research and teaching at the university level has only recently grown to a considerable level, and the field still lacks a firm research methodology. This book approaches tourism economics as an applied field of study in which tourism markets are represented as imperfect markets, with asymmetric and incomplete information among agents, bounded rationality, and with a strong presence of externalities and public goods. The economic issues studied in the book are approached both intuitively, largely using examples and case studies, and formally, with mathematical formalizations in text boxes.

The book retains both the rigour and relevance to the study of tourism as the original text which is considered to be the gold standard of tourism economics and is a must for those who study and undertake research into tourism from economic, environmental and social perspectives." Professor Haiyan Song, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HK "This Second Edition is a "Wikipedia" of tourism economic research and strategic thinking and a must read for academic, corporate and policy thinkers. It builds on the earlier solid economic analysis of the sector to reflect contemporary geopolitical and socioeconomic issues. Going beyond a globalizing, poverty divided world to one where climate, population, resources and the green economy are dominant issues. We are proud of its genesis and continuing association with TTRI." Professor Geoffrey Lipman, University of Nottingham, UK

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reviews the evolution of ten years’ learning and discovery about water scarcity, livelihoods, and food security within the CGIAR Challenge Program on Water and Food. It draws on the experiences of over 100 projects conducted in ten river basins in the developing world. The book describes how the program’s design evolved from an emphasis on water scarcity, water productivity, and water access to an emphasis on using water innovations to improve livelihoods and address development challenges in specific river basins. It shows how the research was used to foster change in stakeholder behavior, linking it to improved knowledge, attitudes, and skills, which were fostered by stakeholder participation, innovation, dialogue, and negotiation. The authors describe development challenges, their drivers and their political context, how to address them through technical, institutional, and policy innovations; and the consequences of change at different scales, time frames on equity, resilience, and ecosystem services. Overall, the work represents a major synthesis and landmark publication for all concerned with water resource management and sustainable development.

This new edition has been revised and updated to include: Three new chapters: Tourism as a development strategy, Tourism export-led growth, and a dedicated chapter on Macro-evaluation of tourism projects and events, including the travel cost method and the contingent valuation method. New case studies from emerging destinations in Asia, Australia and America to show theory in practice. New and updated data throughout. Each chapter combines theory and practice and is integrated with international case studies. Combining macro- and micro-aspects of economics to the tourism destination, this is an invaluable resource for students learning about this subject, as well as being aimed at tourism researchers and policy-makers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Perrini et al provide a detailed, authoritative look at the evolving European perspective on corporate social responsibility. They show how Europe has moved from follower status to leading edge practice. The book is the best current indicator of what the next stages of CSR will look like.' - Thomas W. Dunfee, University of Pennsylvania, US The rapidly increasing attention devoted to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has resulted in the term 'CSR' being applied to myriad dissimilar phenomena. The authors therefore aim to dispel this confusion by presenting a multi-faceted view of socially responsible corporate behavior and related themes. They provide a conceptualization of CSR that emphasizes the role of the adoption and implementation of specific CSR strategies and their impact on corporate social and economic performance.
