Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Study of the cellular components of the nervous system has become an important diagnostic procedure in patients with many neurological diseases. The technique is increasingly used in neuropathology and cytology laboratories worldwide. This book is a comprehensive colour atlas illustrating specimens of cerebrospinal fluid and needle aspirates from a spectrum of neoplastic diseases. Normal cellular structure, cytopreparation and contaminants are also covered. The book contains very high quality illustrations, the majority in colour.
Book Synopsis Russell & Rubinstein's Pathology of Tumors of the Nervous System 7Ed by : Roger E. McLendon
Download or read book Russell & Rubinstein's Pathology of Tumors of the Nervous System 7Ed written by Roger E. McLendon and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-07-28 with total page 1157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the leading international professional reference text that also serves as a bench book, describing all aspects of the pathology of brain tumours - genetics, molecular biology, epidemiology, morphology, immunohistochemistry, diagnostic criteria and prognosis. Beautifully illustrated in colour throughout and comprehensively referenced, Russell & Rubinstein is regarded as the ultimate source for key information. For this seventh edition, the book returns to a single, clearly organised volume, and basic sciences are once again fully integrated within sections devoted to individual tumour entities. Entirely revised and updated throughout by a wide range of internationally revered authorities, the content reflects the latest tumour classification and grading while neuroradiologic correlation via state of the art neuroimaging techniques continues to be emphasised in all diagnostic entities. The offering is completed by a companion CD-ROM, providing quick and easy access to all the images from the book, retrievable by figure number, chapter title and keyword searches.
Book Synopsis Atlas of CSF Cytology by : Harald Kluge
Download or read book Atlas of CSF Cytology written by Harald Kluge and published by Thieme. This book was released on 2006-11-08 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete, single-volume reference for the cytological examination of cerebrospinal fluid! This full-color atlas presents all the essential information needed for reaching an accurate cytological diagnosis of cerebrospinal fluid and its abnormalities. Designed as a clinical and laboratory reference, Atlas of CSF Cytology provides an overview of all the standard diagnostic techniques and offers insight into advanced methods such as flow cytometry and immunocytological phenotyping. Brief descriptions of the indications, advantages, and limitations are provided for each method. An extensive collection of more than 300 high-quality cytological pictures demonstrating normal cell structures, as well as pathological cells in acute and remission phases enables the reader to understand disease processes. Highlights: Guidelines for the proper handling of specimens, cell preparation, and staining techniques Review of the common sources of error in diagnosis Thorough coverage of the techniques for detecting and classifying inflammatory, infectious, neoplastic, and hemorrhagic conditions of the central nervous system Descriptions of the principle features of cells and the classification of tumor cell types according to current W.H.O. standards Full-color images depicting pathological alterations of CSF cells -- an indispensable visual aid to comprehension Atlas of CSF Cytology is ideal for specialists in neurology, neurosurgery, pathology/neuropathology, cytopathology, microbiology, and laboratory medicine, as well as for those internists, pediatricians, and psychiatrists who frequently request cytological examination of the CSF. Though it is written to meet the needs of specialists, the "Atlas" will also be found accessible and enlightening by interested medical students, interns and residents.

Download or read book Cerebellar Cortex written by S.L. Palay and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origins of this book go back to the first electron microscopic studies of the central nervous system. The cerebellar cortex was from the first an object of close study in the electron microscope, repeating in modern cytology and neuroanatomy the role it had in the hands of RAMON y CAJAL at the end of the nineteenth century. The senior author vividly remembers a day early in 1953 when GEORGE PALADE, with whom he was then working, showed him an electron micrograph of a cerebellar glomerulus, saying "That is what the synapse should look like. " It is true that the tissue was swollen and the mitochondria were exploded, but all of the essentials of synaptic structure were visible. At that time small fragments of tissue, fixed by immersion in osmium tetroxide and embedded in methacrylate, were laboriously sectioned with glass knives without any predetermined orientation and then examined in the electron microscope. After much searching, favorably preserved areas' were studied at the cytological level in order to recognize the parts of neurons and characterize them. Such procedures, dependent upon random sections and uncontrollable selection by a highly erratic technique of preservation, precluded any systematic investigation of the organization of a particular nucleus or region of the central nervous system. It was difficult enough to distinguish neurons from the neuroglia.
Book Synopsis Diagnostic Neuropathology Smears by : Jeffrey T. Joseph
Download or read book Diagnostic Neuropathology Smears written by Jeffrey T. Joseph and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 2007 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides practical information on how to perform and interpret smears and use smears for diagnostic intraoperative neuropathology. The book covers most aspects of brain biopsies that require intraoperative or "frozen section" diagnosis, including tumors, non-neoplastic lesions, infectious diseases, and metastases to the brain. The author also discusses more general aspects of smears, including their preparation and general interpretation. Emphasis is on the structural information about brain lesions supplied by the technique of smears, as well as the patterns of smears produced by different tumors. More than 200 full-color illustrations complement the text.
