Download or read book Standard-setting in UNESCO. written by Abdulqawi A. Yusuf and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Standard-setting represents one of the main constitutional functions of UNESCO and an important tool for realizing the goals for which the organization was created. In addition to conventions and recommendations, the declarations adopted by the General Conference promulgate principles and norms intended to inspire the action of member states in specific fields of activity. Topics addressed in the first volume include methods of elaboration and implementation, constitutional objectives and legal commitments, international collaboration, and impact. Volume 2 contains conventions and agreements adopted by the General Conference and by intergovernmental conferences convened by UNESO itself or jointly by UNESCO and other international organizations as well as the recommendations issued by the General Conference, and UNESCO declarations. Together, these two volumes compose an invaluable commentary and reference work that should be of interest to scholars, practitioners, diplomats, policy-makers and students of international organizations.--Publisher's description.
Book Synopsis All International Politics Is Local by : Kristian Skrede Gleditsch
Download or read book All International Politics Is Local written by Kristian Skrede Gleditsch and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2009-11-16 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does regional interdependence influence the prospects for conflict, integration, and democratization? Some researchers look at the international system at large and disregard the enormous regional variations. Others take the concept of sovereignty literally and treat each nation-state as fully independent. Kristian Skrede Gleditsch looks at disparate zones in the international system to see how conflict, integration, and democracy have clustered over time and space. He argues that the most interesting aspects of international politics are regional rather than fully global or exclusively national. Differences in the local context of interaction influence states' international behavior as well as their domestic attributes. In All International Politics Is Local, Gleditsch clarifies that isolating the domestic processes within countries cannot account for the observed variation in distribution of political democracy over time and space, and that the likelihood of transitions is strongly related to changes in neighboring countries and the prior history of the regional context. Finally, he demonstrates how spatial and statistical techniques can be used to address regional interdependence among actors and its implications. Kristian Skrede Gleditsch is Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego.

Book Synopsis Chalcidoidea of Iran by : Hassan Ghahari
Download or read book Chalcidoidea of Iran written by Hassan Ghahari and published by CABI. This book was released on 2021-01-27 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The superfamily Chalcidoidea (Insecta, Hymenoptera) contains in excess of 26,000 described species worldwide, but with an estimated total diversity of more than 500,000 species the vast majority of species have yet to be discovered and described. Most chalcidoid species are parasitoids of hosts in at least 12 different insect orders, attacking the egg, larval or pupal stages, though phytophagy and other life cycles and hosts are known. Iran is the 18th largest country in the world and has a rich and diverse insect fauna, including Chalcidoidea. It is extremely interesting from a biogeographic point of view, and a paradise for an entomologist. This book summarizes the results of all prior research concerning species diversity of Iranian Chalcidoidea, including host records and distribution records by province in Iran as well as world distribution by country for 1,351 species of Chalcidoidea recorded from Iran through the end of 2019.
