Each volume offers a comprehensive grammatical description of a single language together with fully analyzed sample texts and, if appropriate, a word list and other relevant information which is available on the language in question. There are no restrictions as to language family or area, and although special attention is paid to hitherto undescribed languages, new and valuable treatments of better known languages are also included. No theoretical model is imposed on the authors; the only criterion is a high standard of scientific quality. To discuss your book idea or submit a proposal, please contact Birgit Sievert.

Book excerpt: Héctor Lindo-Fuentes provides the first in-depth economic history of El Salvador during the crucial decades of the nineteenth century. Before independence in 1821, the isolated territory that we now call El Salvador was a subdivision of the Captaincy General of Guatemala and had only 250,000 inhabitants. Both indigo production, the source of wealth for the country's tiny elite and its main link to the outside world, and subsistence agriculture, which engaged the majority of the population, involved the use of agricultural techniques that had not changed for two hundred years. By 1900, however, El Salvador's primary export was coffee, a crop that demanded relatively sophisticated agricultural techniques and the support of an elaborate internal finance and marketing network. The coffee planters came to control the state apparatus, writing laws that secured their access to land, imposing taxes that paid for a transportation network designed to service their plantations, building ports to expedite coffee exports, and establishing a banking system to finance the new crop. Weak Foundations shows how the parallel process of state-building and expansion of the coffee industry resulted in the formation of an oligarchy that was to rule El Salvador during the twentieth century. Historians and economists interested in the "routes to underdevelopment" followed by Latin American and other "Third World" countries will find this analysis thorough and provocative.

This work is an invitation to evolve your inner resources and restart your life with a sound method. With scientific foundation and sharp wisdom, "Evolve & Restart" is a powerful guide to write a new chapter in your life, following a hands-on and thoroughly explained seven-step transformational coach-yourself process. Luis López-Portillo, a corporate trainer, coach and advisor, details a practical and easy to follow framework for personal change. With insightful words, he explains The Restart Mindset method, a guide full of wisdom and sound advice for a life reset. "Evolve & Restart" is a handbook full of recommendations to supercharge your life and become your ideal self. With smart science references, this book provides techniques for a more efficient use of your mental resources. The Restart Mindset shares guidelines for optimal self-management and human performance to upgrade your life by retraining mind and brain. This book is an invitation to take charge of your mindsets, beliefs and behaviors to jumpstart your life. Who needs this book? Reinvention should be considered in these life disruptions: Being out of a job (unemployment is a pandemic by itself) Being forced to change careers A painful divorce Dramatic changes in the workplace Laid off for a very long period Having to start a business The death of a loved one Having to move to a different city or country Being forced to quit school Having to lose weight Need to begin self-employment Lifestyle alteration for health reasons A serious accident or illness Those of you who feel stuck, stranded, cornered or forced to do a life redesign after a critical setback will find this book very useful, either to regain perspective or find inspiration to relaunch your life. The author delivers compelling arguments to teach you how to reinvent yourself by evolving your thinking and learning to exploit the mind-body connection. López-Portillo is an entrepreneur, writer and former university professor and researcher. He is an organizational culture expert, and this is his second book. He firmly believes a crisis is a great launchpad to restart in a new direction, transcend and live an extraordinary life. These are the five principles for personal reinvention that serve as foundation of the book: 1-Change can only happen when you truly master your brain 2-You can change only if you firmly believe you can change 3-To modify behaviors, you need to first change mindsets, beliefs and identity 4-You change by doing, practicing and repeating, not just by knowing 5-Sustainable change means a new lifestyle and automatization of new habits The world after 2020 left many people in need of life changes, professional makeovers, personal transformations or turnarounds. Sometimes to thrive, other times just to survive. Sudden life disruptions, mid-life transitions or middle-age crisis require personal reinvention. This is a great book for those over 30, over 40 or over 50 who need a clear and practical do-it-yourself guide to engineer a life makeover to restart in a new path. It's also great for anyone seeking to build a new beginning after a lay-off, career change, divorce, partial retirement, bankruptcy, burnout, sudden unemployment or a broken heart.
