This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume contains selected papers issued from the sixth edition of the International Conference "Numerical methods for hyperbolic problems" that took place in 2019 in Málaga (Spain). NumHyp conferences, which began in 2009, focus on recent developments and new directions in the field of numerical methods for hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs) and their applications. The 11 chapters of the book cover several state-of-the-art numerical techniques and applications, including the design of numerical methods with good properties (well-balanced, asymptotic-preserving, high-order accurate, domain invariant preserving, uncertainty quantification, etc.), applications to models issued from different fields (Euler equations of gas dynamics, Navier-Stokes equations, multilayer shallow-water systems, ideal magnetohydrodynamics or fluid models to simulate multiphase flow, sediment transport, turbulent deflagrations, etc.), and the development of new nonlinear dispersive shallow-water models. The volume is addressed to PhD students and researchers in Applied Mathematics, Fluid Mechanics, or Engineering whose investigation focuses on or uses numerical methods for hyperbolic systems. It may also be a useful tool for practitioners who look for state-of-the-art methods for flow simulation.
Book Synopsis Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics, Applications - Proceedings Of The Fifth International Conference by : James Glimm
Download or read book Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics, Applications - Proceedings Of The Fifth International Conference written by James Glimm and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-03-14 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intellectual center of this proceedings volume is the subject of conservation laws. Conservation laws are the most basic model of many continuum processes, and for this reason they govern the motion of fluids, solids, and plasma. They are basic to the understanding of more complex modeling issues, such as multiphase flow, chemically reacting flow, and non-equilibrium thermodynamics. Equations of this type also arise in novel and unexpected areas, such as the pattern recognition and image processing problem of edge enhancement and detection. The articles in this volume address the entire range of the study of conservation laws, including the fundamental mathematical theory, familiar and novel applications, and the numerical problem of finding effective computational algorithms for the solution of these problems.
Book Synopsis Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws by : Alberto Bressan
Download or read book Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws written by Alberto Bressan and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2000 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a self-contained introduction to the mathematical theory of hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, with particular emphasis on the study of discontinuous solutions, characterized by the appearance of shock waves. This area has experienced substantial progress in very recent years thanks to the introduction of new techniques, in particular the front tracking algorithm and the semigroup approach. These techniques provide a solution to the long standing open problems of uniqueness and stability of entropy weak solutions. This volume is the first to present a comprehensive account of these new, fundamental advances. It also includes a detailed analysis of the stability and convergence of the front tracking algorithm. A set of problems, with varying difficulty is given at the end of each chapter to verify and expand understanding of the concepts and techniques previously discussed. For researchers, this book will provide an indispensable reference to the state of the art in the field of hyperbolic systems of conservation laws.

Book Synopsis Numerical Approximation of Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws by : Edwige Godlewski
Download or read book Numerical Approximation of Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws written by Edwige Godlewski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is devoted to the theory and approximation of nonlinear hyper bolic systems of conservation laws in one or two space variables. It follows directly a previous publication on hyperbolic systems of conservation laws by the same authors, and we shall make frequent references to Godlewski and Raviart (1991) (hereafter noted G. R. ), though the present volume can be read independently. This earlier publication, apart from a first chap ter, especially covered the scalar case. Thus, we shall detail here neither the mathematical theory of multidimensional scalar conservation laws nor their approximation in the one-dimensional case by finite-difference con servative schemes, both of which were treated in G. R. , but we shall mostly consider systems. The theory for systems is in fact much more difficult and not at all completed. This explains why we shall mainly concentrate on some theoretical aspects that are needed in the applications, such as the solution of the Riemann problem, with occasional insights into more sophisticated problems. The present book is divided into six chapters, including an introductory chapter. For the reader's convenience, we shall resume in this Introduction the notions that are necessary for a self-sufficient understanding of this book -the main definitions of hyperbolicity, weak solutions, and entropy present the practical examples that will be thoroughly developed in the following chapters, and recall the main results concerning the scalar case.

Accessible to graduate students and others seeking an introduction to the state of the art in this area, this book is a suitable text for advanced graduate seminar courses for it contains many open problems.
Book Synopsis Statistical Multiple Integration by : Nancy Flournoy
Download or read book Statistical Multiple Integration written by Nancy Flournoy and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1991 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High dimensional integration arises naturally in two major sub-fields of statistics: multivariate and Bayesian statistics. Indeed, the most common measures of central tendency, variation, and loss are defined by integrals over the sample space, the parameter space, or both. Recent advances in computational power have stimulated significant new advances in both Bayesian and classical multivariate statistics. In many statistical problems, however, multiple integration can be the major obstacle to solutions. This volume contains the proceedings of an AMS-IMS-SIAM Joint Summer Research Conference on Statistical Multiple Integration, held in June 1989 at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. The conference represents an attempt to bring together mathematicians, statisticians, and computational scientists to focus on the many important problems in statistical multiple integration. The papers document the state of the art in this area with respect to problems in statistics, potential advances blocked by problems with multiple integration, and current work directed at expanding the capability to integrate over high dimensional surfaces.
