Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRAUMATIC DENTAL INJURIES: A MANUAL The third edition of Traumatic Dental Injuries: A Manual builds on the widespread success of the previous two editions. The ultimate guide to dental trauma, the manual preserves its uniquely usable and reader-friendly format, demonstrating step-by-step treatment protocols for commonly occurring traumatic injuries. Several new sections have been added to expand the number of clinical scenarios, describing soft tissue injuries associated with dental trauma, showing how decoronation of ankylosed anterior teeth in adolescents can preserve the alveolar process for later implant placement, and identifying predictors for pulpal and periodontal ligament healing complications as well as for tooth loss. A unique feature of the new edition is the accompanying DVD which presents computer animations of all trauma scenarios, as well as links to the internet-based interactive Dental Trauma Guide to predict healing complications for individual trauma scenarios. KEY FEATURES Written by international authorities on dental trauma Demonstrates treatment protocols in a clear step-by-step format Illustrated throughout with high-quality color images and diagrams Includes more sections to expand number of clinical scenarios Accompanied by a new DVD of trauma scenario animations REVIEWS OF PREVIOUS EDITIONS The text is clear and well written and well referenced ... The chapters on diagnosis of periodontal and pulpal complications are particularly helpful as this is a difficult area for many clinicians. The manual will serve as an excellent reference for practitioners and dental students who have a good working knowledge of dental traumatology. Journal of Orthodontics Overall, this book is excellent and I believe would be an essential member of a dentist’s library. It is the sort of book that can be quickly read, and information and guidance can be located easily when the need arises. The price makes the book very affordable and I wholeheartedly recommend it as an essential reference source for the general dentist and dental student. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a state of the art clinical guide to contemporary materials and techniques for the restoration of individual teeth and implants. It fully reflects the important developments in the field over the past 15 years, including in particular the shift away from wholesale use of crowns towards adhesive dentistry and less invasive extra-coronal restorations. The book opens by considering the principles and evidence base relating to the longevity of restorations of teeth and implants. Importantly, it explains how to ensure “a healthy start” and manage future risks. Material choice and aesthetic issues are then discussed, before all aspects of the planning and provision of extra-coronal restorations are examined in depth. The coverage also includes the adaptation of crowns to existing partial dentures. In line with modern dental education, each chapter begins with clinically relevant learning objectives, and helpful clinical tips are highlighted. The book will be of value for senior dental undergraduates, postgraduates, and practicing dentists and its scientific content will be of interest to dental academics.

Book excerpt: Forget about drilling, filling, and the inevitable billing. Your teeth can heal naturally because they were never designed to decay in the first place! They were designed to remain strong and healthy for your entire life. But the false promises of conventional dentistry have led us down the wrong path, leading to invasive surgical treatments that include fillings, crowns, root canals and dental implants. Now there is a natural way to take control of your dental health by changing the food that you eat. Cure Tooth Decay is based upon the pioneering nutritional program of dentist Weston Price, former head of research at the National Dental Association. Dr. Price's program proved to be 90-95% or more effective in remineralizing tooth cavities utilizing only nutritional improvements in the diet. Cure Tooth Decay is the result of five years of research and trial and error that started as one father's journey to cure his daughter's rapidly progressing tooth decay. With Cure Tooth Decay you will join the thousands of people who have learned how to remineralize teeth, eliminate tooth pain or sensitivity, avoid root canals, stop cavities -- sometimes instantaneously, regrow secondary dentin, form new tooth enamel, avoid or minimize gum loss, heal and repair tooth infections, only use dental treatments when medically necessary, save your mouth (and your pocketbook) from thousands of dollars of unneeded dental procedures, and increase your overall health and vitality.

Book excerpt: Looking at royal ritual in pre-revolutionary France, Death and the crown examines the deathbed and funeral of Louis XV in 1774, the lit de justice of November 1774, and the coronation of Louis XVI, including the ceremony of the royal healing touch for scrofula. It reviews the state of the field in ritual studies and appraises the status of the monarchy in the 1770s, including the recall of the parlements and the many ways people engaged with royal ritual. It answers questions such as whether Louis XV died in fear of damnation, why Marie Antoinette was not crowned in 1775 and why Louis XVI's coronation was not held in Paris. This lively, accessible text is a useful tool for under- and post-graduate teaching which will also be of interest to specialists on this under-researched period.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The choice of dental restoration depends on the amount of remaining tooth, which may influence long term survival and cost. For endodontically treated teeth, it is believed that coronal coverage can improve the clinical success of the restored teeth. An endodontic post is a partial prosthesis that is fixed inside the root canal. They are used to retain the coronal restoration when considerable tooth structure is missing. A core is a built-up structure that compensates for the lost tooth structure. It can either be part of the post material or a different material that is attached or bonded to the intra-canal post. Composite restoration material is widely acceptable build-up material for this purpose. In the perspective of publicly funded health insurance plans, it is important to base the coverage of dental crowns for vital and non-vital teeth on the best available evidence. It is of particular interest these plans to define evidence-based criteria for the coverage of crowns for vital teeth, and for the coverage of using posts/cores and crowns on endodontically treated teeth. In Canada, such evaluation is complicated by the fact that publicly funded health insurance plans do not have control over the care provider's choice of the crown type, and by the fact that there can be one fee code designated for all types of porcelain crowns, such as within the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services. The objective of this review is to evaluate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of dental crowns for vital teeth and the use of post-core-crown restorations for endodontically treated teeth.
