This book was released on 2021-01-26 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1989, explores the ideas, proposals and counterproposals surrounding the thorny issue of Cold War conventional force disarmament in Europe. European nations acknowledged the need to reduce military tensions, but divergences remained as to the concrete ways and means for the attainment of the security objectives on the basis of mutually acceptable reductions of their respective forces. A UNIDIR-organized conference examined these issues, and presented here are the conference reports and findings, together with speaker responses.
Book Synopsis Twenty Lectures on Algorithmic Game Theory by : Tim Roughgarden
Download or read book Twenty Lectures on Algorithmic Game Theory written by Tim Roughgarden and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-30 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer science and economics have engaged in a lively interaction over the past fifteen years, resulting in the new field of algorithmic game theory. Many problems that are central to modern computer science, ranging from resource allocation in large networks to online advertising, involve interactions between multiple self-interested parties. Economics and game theory offer a host of useful models and definitions to reason about such problems. The flow of ideas also travels in the other direction, and concepts from computer science are increasingly important in economics. This book grew out of the author's Stanford University course on algorithmic game theory, and aims to give students and other newcomers a quick and accessible introduction to many of the most important concepts in the field. The book also includes case studies on online advertising, wireless spectrum auctions, kidney exchange, and network management.

Book Synopsis Règlement pacifique des différends entre États: Perspectives universelle et européenne by : Lucius Caflisch

This book was released on 2023-09-14 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International law has made remarkable progress during the last decades. But law-making is one thing, ensuring compliance quite another. While the enthusiasm and support for international law-making are considerable, caution and mistrust soon re-emerge when disputes arise over implementation. To persuade member States of the OSCE to resort to international conciliation and arbitration, there must be the will to use the Court on the part of States. This work takes stock of the obstacles, whether they be institutional (different mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes), structural (actual limitations to the settlement of disputes between States) or relate to competition (between means of diplomatic settlement and adjudication). This work is based on a Symposium held in Geneva to mark the Constitution of the Court of Conciliation and Arbitration within the OSCE. The contributions deal in particular with a variety of topics which could arise within the framework of the new OSCE Court, such as political and judicial means of settlement, subsidiarity of the new Court, and conciliation and arbitration before that Court.

Book Synopsis Ethnic Matching by : Donald Easton-Brooks
Download or read book Ethnic Matching written by Donald Easton-Brooks and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-03-13 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethnic Matching: Academic Success of Students of Color is an in-depth exploration on the impact of ethnic matching in education, the paring of students of color with teachers of the same race. Research shows that this method has a positive and long-term impact on the academic experience of students of color. This book explores what makes this phenomenon relevant in today’s classrooms. Through interviewing quality teachers of color, this book sheds a light on the impact these teachers make on the academic experience of students of color. This approach is meant to provide all teachers valuable insight into techniques for engaging with diverse learners. Also, from these conversations, the book shows how the intentionality of culturally responsive practice can enhance the academic experience of students of color. Topics such as the challenges of recruiting and retaining quality teachers of color, as well as the valuable work being done on the local, state, and national level to promote diversifying the field of education as a way to provide equitable education for all students is also explored in this book.

Book Synopsis Tensors: Geometry and Applications by : J. M. Landsberg
Download or read book Tensors: Geometry and Applications written by J. M. Landsberg and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011-12-14 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tensors are ubiquitous in the sciences. The geometry of tensors is both a powerful tool for extracting information from data sets, and a beautiful subject in its own right. This book has three intended uses: a classroom textbook, a reference work for researchers in the sciences, and an account of classical and modern results in (aspects of) the theory that will be of interest to researchers in geometry. For classroom use, there is a modern introduction to multilinear algebra and to the geometry and representation theory needed to study tensors, including a large number of exercises. For researchers in the sciences, there is information on tensors in table format for easy reference and a summary of the state of the art in elementary language. This is the first book containing many classical results regarding tensors. Particular applications treated in the book include the complexity of matrix multiplication, P versus NP, signal processing, phylogenetics, and algebraic statistics. For geometers, there is material on secant varieties, G-varieties, spaces with finitely many orbits and how these objects arise in applications, discussions of numerous open questions in geometry arising in applications, and expositions of advanced topics such as the proof of the Alexander-Hirschowitz theorem and of the Weyman-Kempf method for computing syzygies.
