Book excerpt: Excerpt from Crops and Market, Vol. 1: March 22, 1924 Boston continued overstocked with medium and low grade hay from Canada and Maine, for which there was little de mand. Receivers cut prices in order to save storage charges but this did not stimulate buying so the hay accumulated in the railroad sheds. The light receipts and improved demand at New York caused 'buyers from Brooklyn and the Bronx to go to Manhattan for supplies. Good hay in large bales was in active demand. 'the decreased receipts and the probability of a further curtail ment as spring approaches, together with an expected good demand from buyers who would want to increase their stocks to carry them through the period of light country movement had a strengthening influence on the market at Cincinnati. Timo thy receipts at Kansas City exceeded the demand and prices declined a little towards the last of the week.
