Book Synopsis Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 by : Scotland: Scottish Parliament
Download or read book Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 written by Scotland: Scottish Parliament and published by . This book was released on 2010-08-16 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Act reforms the Crofters Commission, making it more democratic and accountable. There will be up to 9 members of the Commission, the majority of whom will be crofters elected by crofters. It also provides a new definitive, map-based Crofting Register that will give crofters and crofting stakeholders greater legal certainty over the land held in crofting tenure (including Common Grazing land) and the boundaries and interests held in that land. It will be operated by the Keeper of The Registers of Scotland. Clear duties are placed on both tenant and owner-occupier crofters to address absenteeism and neglect on croft land. The Act requires the Commission to take action against any breach of these duties. Pressure from speculation on the development value of croft land will be tackled by strengthening the grounds under which the Commission may consider an application to decroft and the Scottish Land Court can consider resumption applications.

Book Synopsis Gaelic in Scotland by : McLeod Wilson McLeod
Download or read book Gaelic in Scotland written by McLeod Wilson McLeod and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2020-09-04 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this extensive study of the changing role of Gaelic in modern Scotland - from the introduction of state education in 1872 up to the present day - Wilson McLeod looks at the policies of government and the work of activists and campaigners who have sought to maintain and promote Gaelic. In addition, he scrutinises the competing ideologies that have driven the decline, marginalisation and subsequent revitalisation of the language. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, at the boundary of history, law, language policy and sociolinguistics, the book draws upon a wide range of sources in both English and Gaelic to consider in detail the development of the language policy regime for Gaelic that was developed between 1975 and 1989. It examines the campaign for the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005, its contents and implementation; and assesses the development and delivery of development and delivery of Gaelic education and media from the late 1980s to the present.
