Book excerpt: Change management is omnipresent in organisations as companies have to transform constantly. This applies not only to large corporations operating in an international context, but also to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Yet executing a change project is accompanied by great challenges and most change initiatives are not entirely successful. Despite the fact that SMEs are the backbone of the German economy little empirical work has been done concerning change management in these companies. Tim Fritzenschaft explores the issue how SMEs can deal with resistance to change and which critical success factors of change management are most important in a transformation project.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Mobile payment (mPayment) can be understood as every payment where at least one participant applies mobile phone technology, thus, uses a mobile phone. But due to technological progress it seems reasonable to classify other devices like a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or devices with embedded Radio Frequency (RF) technology as mobile payment devices. However, mobile phones today clearly outnumber every other mobile payment device. Penetration rates are forecasted to reach almost 80% in Europe by 2005. The number of worldwide cellular subscribers is expected to pass one billion by 2003. By 2005 there will be more mobile phones worldwide than TVs, fixed line phones, and Personal Computers (PC). Driven by the increasing penetration and resulting business opportunities, numerous mPayment solutions have been offered by payment service providers, telcos, and financial institutions. The variety of applicable technologies, the possible linkage between the financial instruments, and the mPayment device combined with different payment scenarios offer a wide landscape of mPayment solutions. Besides technology, questions dealing with consumer expectations, factors thriving or inhibiting a widespread adoption, and with it related penetration strategies for payment service providers have to be carefully researched to develop a successful mPayment. Based on diverse motivations and influenced by recent technology development banks, telcos and start-up companies endeavour to build a successful mPayment that meets the expectations of consumers and merchants. The research question of this paper focuses on factors that can be identified as crucial to drive the success of mobile payment systems. Therefore, the first goal is to give an introduction to the mPayment landscape as a foundation for further research. The second goal is to derive key factors influencing the success of an mPayment from theoretical models and by reviewing related literature. The research concentrates on business to consumer (B2C) and consumer to consumer (C2C) payment on the European and United States (US) market. Neither cross border payments nor business to business (B2B) payments are described in this paper. Venturing overseas can be successful for many, while others have failed. The key questions are the following: 1. What are the critical success factors? 2. What are the struggles? 3. Is internationalisation the same process for all companies? 4. What capabilities and competencies must the company possess to succeed internationally? 5. What are the internationalisation strategies to be successful? The book is based on a multiple-case study of the internationalisation of thirty Singapore food service companies. These Singaporean companies were categorised in the stages of internationalisation as aspirants, actives, and achievers. To strengthen external validity and data triangulation, the study included eleven industry experts, termed as advisers, and seven international purchasers of the Singapore F&B brands called acquirers. _______________________________________________ James Mok has written a must-read book for any F&B business considering international franchising, in particular throughout Asia. The thirty cases studies were well chosen to illustrate the complexity, challenges and pitfalls Asian F&B businesses face when introducing a foreign foodservice concept to overseas markets. This book also serves as highly useful guide for Asia-based F&B businesses to compete successfully internationally (Dr Stephen Choo).

That was the question I set out to answer when I attempted to do this research project. In order to gather the most accurate data, I narrowed my focus to college and university students. However, these same three success factors could be used to help at-risk students at the high school and middle school levels and any other organization that set out to help the at-risk students. The research data concluded that tutoring programs, mentoring programs, and financial aid programs are key components to assisting struggling at-risk students achieve and succeed in an academic setting. When at-risk students are given a little extra assistance, they tend to do well.

However, it does require significant investments in terms of capital and management resources. And activities overseas are certainly not without risk. Foreign markets are not only unknown, the institutional context for business is often quite different compared to the home country. International business activities require patience and a long term perspective. Managers should expect disappointments and hurdles along the way. The present book discusses international business activities from the point of view of the manager. It reveals potential pitfalls and provides an overview of what to take into account when considering business opportunities outside the home market.

Book excerpt: One of the main economic players responsible for Singapore’s economic success is its small and medium-sized enterprises or SMEs. Their overall success has helped propel the country and its people forward. From economic policies to politics, Singapore is a planned and regulated economy. Singapore’s economic success story is actually the result of a form of capitalism carefully calibrated and controlled by the government. An important element or aspect of good critical success factors (CSFs) emerges from the role being played by the government. The existence of good government or public policies that are pro-business is vital for the success of firms. Despite the fact that government policies and CSFs are widely studied in areas around the world including in Singapore, there is no comprehensive prediction model available to test if firms have potential to be successful or are more prone to failures. Much research investigates the non-financial factors contributing to success versus failure of small firms, but empirical tests of the predictability of these factors are less common. This book, which is primarily quantitative/ positivist in nature will attempt to fill this gap.

Book excerpt: The issue of what defines project success (or failure) is complex and often elusive, and dependent on the perceptions of different stakeholders. In this enlightening book Emanuel Camilleri examines the key factors bearing on perceived success or failure. This book is not just about project management, it goes much deeper into the topic of project success by prescribing a project success framework. In chapters dedicated to factors such as leadership, teams, communication, information management and risk management, the author shines a light on the key behaviours in which project managers and others engage and how those behaviours predict success or failure. Practising project managers, project board members and sponsors, struggling to manage conflicting stakeholder expectations, complexity and ambiguity, will learn which factors are vital to determining successful outcomes. Finally, having highlighted the particular skills, abilities and attributes identified by the research, Dr Camilleri offers a diagnostic model for assessing an organization's preparedness for undertaking and successfully managing major projects. Project Success provides a valuable contribution to the literature on this subject, and its application delivers practical guidance that will be welcomed by project professionals at all levels.

Book excerpt: The 6th edition of this established text is streamlined to a more manageable format, with the Appendices moved to the web-site and a significant shortening of the main text. There is a greater focus on the global analysis of industry and competition; and analysis of the internal environment. In consultation with feedback from their adopters, the authors have concentrated on the fundamentals of strategy analysis and the underlying sources of profit. This reflects waning interest among senior executives in the pursuit of short-term shareholder value. As ever students are provided with the guidance they need to strategic planning, analysis of the health services environment (internal and external) and lessons on implementation; with additional discussionssion of organizational capability, deeper treatment of sustainability and corporate social responsibility and more coverageof the sources of organizational inertia and competency traps. This edition is rich in new examples from real-world health care organizations. Chapters are brought to life by the 'Introductory Incidents', 'Learning Objectives', 'Perspectives', 'Strategy Capsules', useful chapter summaries; and questions for class discussion. All cases and examples have been updated or replaced. In this edition the teaching materials and web supplements have been greatly enhanced, with power-point slides, to give lecturers a unique resource.

This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent times, the advent of new technologies, the concerns about sustainability, and the new tastes of the youngest generations of luxury consumers have affected the traditional dynamics of the luxury goods markets. These emerging issues have caused significant changes in the marketing of luxury goods. Sustainable development is not a new practice in the luxury market but is of increasing importance. The real challenge is for luxury companies to overcome the residual corporate social responsibility perspective to embrace a real integration of environmental, ethical, and social concerns into the corporate strategy. Integrated output and sustainable processes, the introduction of non-financial reporting as operational practice, and a new orientation to circular economy practices are emerging issues that still today request for a deeper exploration both on the academic and managerial point of view. Digitalization is another relevant issue that is reshaping the business model of luxury companies. Big data, blockchain, omnichannel experience, and digital customer experience represent the main digital challenges that luxury brand companies are facing nowadays. Luxury brands must keep up with these digital demands and sustainability concerns to maintain their position in the global market. Developing Successful Global Strategies for Marketing Luxury Brands upgrades the most relevant theoretical frameworks and empirical research about the marketing of luxury goods. This book is focused on contemporary issues affecting luxury industries such as digital transformation (blockchain, big data, analytics, innovation processes), sustainable development, changes in luxury consumers’ behavior, integration between physical and online channels, and the development of social media marketing strategies. Chapters will cover areas of marketing, management, buyer behavior, and international business, creating a multidisciplinary approach for this book. This book is ideal for scholars, local government agencies and public bodies, managers, luxury business owners, along with practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students who are interested in emerging issues affecting the luxury market, such as sustainability and digital transformation.
