This book was released on 1992 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide contains information on 25 plant species which may compete with conifer crop species, and on six commercially important conifer species. The guide summarizes information on the autoecology of each species in the context of the Northwestern Ontario Forest Ecosystem Classification. In addition, it evaluates each of the potential competitors with respect to their competitive effects and mechanisms, their response to disturbance and silvicultural treatments (including their adaptation to forest canopy removal, cutting, mechanical site preparation, fire, and herbicides), and their potential value for wildlife. The guide similarly evaluates the six conifer species with respect to their response to competition and ability to respond to release. Summary tables enable quick comparison between species. This guide will assist forest resource managers in developing site-specific vegetation management strategies.

Download or read book Field Guide to the Autecology of Selected Crop Trees and Competitor Species in Northeastern Ontario written by R. W. Arnup and published by Timmins, Ont. : Northeast Science & Technology. This book was released on 1995 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual contains information on seven commercially important tree species and on 44 plant species that may compete with these crop tree species in northeastern Ontario. The introduction provides background information for the species comparison tables and species summaries that follow, and explains the format of the manual. The tables give information on each species' autecology in the context of the Forest Ecosystem Classification (FEC) system for northeastern Ontario. In addition, each potential competitor is evaluated with respect to their competitive effects and mechanisms, their response to disturbance and silvicultural treatments, and their potential value for wildlife. The crop tree species are evaluated with respect to their response to competition and their ability to respond to release. Line diagrams are included to aid in field recognition. The appendix contains a glossary and a key to FEC names and descriptions.

Book Synopsis Field Guide to Ecosites of the Mid-boreal Ecoregions of Saskatchewan by : John David Beckingham
Download or read book Field Guide to Ecosites of the Mid-boreal Ecoregions of Saskatchewan written by John David Beckingham and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An ecological classification system was developed for the mid-boreal ecoregions of Saskatchewan through the analysis of vegetation, soil, site, and forest productivity information. The hierarchical classification system has three levels - ecosite, ecosite phase, and plant community type. Thirteen ecosites are descrived with further details provided by subdivision into ecosite phase and plant community type. A soil type classification system that describes 17 soil types was also developed. Management interpretations were made for drought, excess moisture, hazard, frost heave hazard, soil temperature limitations, vegetation competition, windthrow hazard, productivity, and season of harvest. Colour photos and drawings for 103 common plants of the mid-boreal ecoregions of Saskatchewan are presented.
