Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Exodus 34 Moses asks to see God's glory, and God reveals himself as a God who is merciful and just. James Hamilton Jr. contends that from this passage comes a biblical theology that unites the meta-narrative of Scripture under one central theme: God's glory in salvation through judgment. Hamilton begins in the Old Testament by showing that Israel was saved through God's judgment on the Egyptians and the Caananites. God was glorified through both his judgment and mercy, accorded in salvation to Israel. The New Testament unfolds the ultimate display of God's glory in justice and mercy, as it was God's righteous judgment shown on the cross that brought us salvation. God's glory in salvation through judgment will be shown at the end of time, when Christ returns to judge his enemies and save all who have called on his name. Hamilton moves through the Bible book by book, showing that there is one theological center to the whole Bible. The volume's systematic method and scope make it a unique resource for pastors, professors, and students.

Book excerpt: This book explores how the books of Amos, Hosea and Isaiah use language of creation. This is done by a religion of history approach of ancient Israel with respect to its belief in YHWH as a Creator, and by an exegetical survey of the relevant texts in the prophets mentioned. It is established that creation language was introduced in Israel long before the Exile and is used in a flexible manner, depending on context and situation. Elaborate attention is given to its use in contexts of judgement. This study is relevant for students of the prophets who are looking for a thorough discussion of many texts and a critical examination of some popular views on creation in the Bible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carl Sagan, a prominent American astrophysicist and philosopher said, Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. The Bible does just that! The Scriptures are self revealing, self interpreting and self dramatic. Questions about the origin and foundation of the universe and the earth continue to confound the paleontologist, the astrophysicist, and even the theologian. While many mysteries of the universe are being progressively unlocked in our age of technological advances and discoveries, questions begging definitive resolutions still remain unanswered. Such questions posed are: Why and how did the dinosaur become extinct? What became of Eden, the garden of God? Did Atlantis really exist and how was it destroyed? What is the newest planet in our solar system and where did it come from? Surprisingly, definitive resolutions to these questions and more are contained within the pages of the Bible in ofttimes dramatic detail, translated into all languages. Only through divine inspiration can the extraordinary information penned by the prophets of old confirm the many wonders of the universe and the world that have come to light in our modern age of scientific exploration and discovery. God frustrates the tokens of the liars, and makes diviners mad; that turns wise men backward and makes their knowledge foolish ( Isaiah 44:25 ).

Book excerpt: What comes to your mind when you think about judgement? How do one live with the knowledge that we will be judged by God at the end of time. How do we please God to make sure that we secure His good judgement? Do you imagine God sitting on His throne and pronouncing judgements to His creation? Judgement for me is what brings balance to the imbalance caused by right and wrong. What is judgment for you? Do you see judgement as some right to do to correct wrong? In human society we perceive God not to be a God that can judge or cast one to hell fire. All the theories about hell are all speculations in morden minds or in all generations of men. We understand the fact that there is life after death but we don't perceive that we can be casted to hell fire because of our sins. Do you see hell and heaven as good judgements from God? If we believe there is God in heaven then we ought to think that this God should be a person with principles and a way in which He disciplines wrong. Hell is a place God created for Satan and those who refuse to accept His offer of mercy on the cross will unfortunately be casted there. I have come to believe that when one disciplines for example their children that could be explained as good judgement. Is hell a good judgement? One of the greatest truth about God is that He is Love. God reveals His love to us in different ways. We cannot imagine God to be a God that can destroy or bring terrible judgement. To be honest most of us know the love side of God. It is good to know the love side of God but we must not forget that God is a judge and as a judge He has to do some things according to justice. For example when men sinned and God wanted to judge them three things happened in God; the judgements of God says, "The wages of sin is death." Mercy says, "Mercy prevails over judgement." And Love says, "Man cannot die because you love them." According to the justice of heaven these three things must balance. Now to balance justice God decide to leave His glory in heaven and wear flesh and die for men whom He had created. In dying the claims of divine justice were being satisfied. If we can see God as the God of judgement then the place of God in our lives would be honored and greatly appreciated.

Book excerpt: God’s world was created “very good,” Genesis chapter 1 tells us, and in this book Jon Garvey rediscovers the truth, known to the Church for its first 1,500 years but largely forgotten now, that the fall of mankind did not lessen that goodness. The natural creation does not require any apologies or excuses, but rather celebration and praise. The author’s re-examination of the scriptural evidence, the writings of two millennia of Christian theologians, and the physical evidence of the world itself lead to the conclusion that we, both as Christians and as modern Westerners, have badly misunderstood our world. Restoring a truer vision of the goodness of the present creation can transform our own lives, sharpen the ministry of the church to the world of both people and nature, and give us a better understanding of what God always intended to bring about through Christ in the age to come.
