In 100 Most Important People in Musical Theatre, Andy Propst profiles the individuals who have helped shape this beloved art form. Songwriting greats such as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, Stephen Sondheim, and Andrew Lloyd Webber are some of the familiar names in the book. So, too, are performers such as Nathan Lane, Ethel Merman, Audra McDonald, and Patti LuPone, and directors and choreographers such as Bob Fosse, Harold Prince, Jerome Robbins, and Tommy Tune. Readers learn not only about these men and women’s exceptional lives and achievements, but can peek backstage at such groundbreaking shows as Show Boat, Oklahoma!, West Side Story, Company, and A Chorus Line, among others. Period reviews and interviews highlight both the shows and the people who contributed to them. The profiles in 100 Most Important People in Musical Theater provide a terrific history of musical theater, guiding readers from the era of operetta and the ascendancy of the book musical to the emergence of the concept musical and contemporary productions—from The Mikado and The Phantom of the Opera to Fun Home and Hamilton. Their revelations threaten to unravel the very fabric of humanity’s past. Book 2, Dark Nebula: Discovery, follows the Olivaw brothers as they confront familial estrangement and ancient grievances against a backdrop of interstellar peril, where humanity’s legacy and future are questioned at every turn. Book 3, Dark Nebula: Generations, delves into the Olivaw family origin, and their ancestors ambitious quest to cement humanity’s place in the cosmos. It’s a journey fraught with internal strife and cosmic confrontation that could herald humanity’s ascendancy, or precipitate its fall. The Dark Nebula series masterfully blends deep emotional resonance with high-stakes adventure, creating a universe rich with detailed characters, existential threats, and a narrative that explores the moral complexities of technological advancement and survival. Perfect for fans of sweeping space operas, Sean Willson’s first three books are a testament to the enduring power of human resilience, the quest for truth, and their fight for a place among the stars. Download or read book Mad in USA written by Michel Desmurget and published by Max Milo. This book was released on 2023-07-04 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In America, liberalism brings prosperity to the majority? False. In America, "anything is possible" for those who work hard? False. In America, the unemployment rate is minimal? False. In America, poverty is relative and the poor live "like modest Europeans?" False. In America, those excluded from the health care system receive free care when they really need it? False—really false. In an excellent investigation, with clear and relevant examples, Michel Desmurget shatters the myth of a beautiful and prosperous America where everyone can succeed as long as they are hardworking and courageous. Taking the opposite view of the current dominant discourse on the virtues of the Anglo-Saxon liberal model, the author writes a disconcerting antithesis, based on American researchers, sociologists and journalists who have studied the failures of the American model and who, for the most part, recommend surprisingly European solutions (universal social security, introduction of a minimum wage indexed to inflation, federalized education, etc.). Michel Desmurget is a doctor of neuropsychology. He attended several major American universities (MIT, Emory, UCSF) and is now a research director at INSERM in cognitive neuroscience. He is particularly interested in the problems of brain organization and plasticity. He is the author of the book TV Lobotomy (Max Milo, 2022), which is based in part on his personal history. Exasperated by having to constantly justify the choice not to have television at home—and to prevent his children from having access to it—and not to be seen as a sociopath in the eyes of those around him, he has done a massive job to argue his point.

Book Synopsis From Whence We Come by : Maurice W. Dorsey
Download or read book From Whence We Come written by Maurice W. Dorsey and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-11-02 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seymour Rose is an African American man who is gay. He was born to a father who is Catholic and accepts his son unconditionally and a mother who is born Methodist and is homophobicbut most of all, she tells her son throughout his life that she never wanted to have him. Seymour reflects on three generations of his family history and often tells family stories to make sense of his years of emotional insecurity and feelings of being unloved and unwanted. His mother is Estelle. She is a strong African American woman whose mother died when she was ten years old. Her father forced her to be surrogate wife and mother to her younger sister and brother. When the Great Depression of the late 1920s occurred and wiped out the familys finances, they were forced into a life of destitution. Never having enough money, she lived and dreamed of growing up and having a job and money of her own. Her dream of having a job was put on hold when she learns she is pregnant. She married and, within a year of the first child, she gives birth to a second child. She is angry with herself because she wanted to go to work before having children. Just as soon as she gets the first two children in grade school and she can live her dream of having a job, she learns she is pregnant again. This child is Seymour, and she repeatedly tells him in her disgust and frustration, Child, God wanted you here, boybecause I never wanted to have you! Seymours reaction to his mothers persistent comments was to cling closer to his mother with hopes that, one day, she would tell him she loved him and wanted him. When he informs his mother that he is gay, this compounds her distaste for this child. At the end of her life, Estelle reveals to Seymour her years of malcontent with her son, and he comes to terms with his mother and his family history. This book is fictitious but based on a true story.
