Stephen does claim that cracked porcelain was written partly by a female ghost called Sarah who haunted him in Sweden, she inspired him to write the story. He also claims that For the love of Charlotte was written in a similar way, inspired by ghosts who related aspects of the story to him through spirit writing.

Book excerpt: This story is fictitious but based on true life events. The aspects of bullying are sadly real and part of life today. During the course of this story, the reader will notice that Jodie has a number of problems, including dyslexia. This was classed as a disability in 2001 and has been dealt with in schools by providing various forms of support for schoolchildren around the world. However, problems remain, and some children slip through the net, undetected. This is partly due to the child formulating strategies to deal with their disability. Schools also fail to understand other aspects of dyslexia, such as poor concentration and short-term memory deficit. The child also develops behavioural problems that stem from shear frustration. They get angry and upset. It is known that some smash or throw objects. Jodie tells her own story after being sentenced to jail for grievous bodily harm (GBH). She is very graphic and open about her sexuality. She is also outspoken and sometimes rude. Despite this, she has a heart of gold.

Book excerpt: The original idea of writing cracked porcelain was to bring to you a message that life is not all about happiness, sometimes we have to experience sad moments. Cracked porcelain is about abuse and finding your own way of coping with the aftermath of such a vile act. It is also about finding your own comfort zone and living happily in a place that you feel safe in. It is about being comfortable with your own sexuality and gender many lives have been destroyed through someone else's ignorance. I aim to shock in some ways by being blunt and forth right in my writing I do not apologise for this as it is my way of getting my point of view across. May I suggest that if you have been abused in any way, that you seek help there are many people like Ruth who are willing to help you. Don't fight things on your own no one is an island and many people have been in situations like Pamela or Ruth.

She is tormented by her past and needs to resolve many issues before she can finally move on and live a normal life. But Ruth is soon moved out of her comfort zone when issues from the past return to haunt her life. Her psychopathic ex boyfriend Malcolm died after falling from Pamela's apartment balcony and his brother Frank threatens to avenge his death. Ruth also becomes involved in the gay pride International parades and is a voice for the freedom of all oppressed people in society. This causes a problem within the religious aspect of the community who verbally attack anyone who they feel oppose the bible and its teachings. But Ruth never stands alone somewhere in the shadows a friend fights for her; Pamela is around if not in body then in spirit. This story highlights subjects from the first book and brings the memories flooding back with as many twists and turns along the way.
