Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2005. Distinctly interdisciplinary, Kingship, Conquest, and Patria brings together French and Welsh studies with literary and historical analysis, genre study with questions of medieval colonialisms and national writing. It treats eight centuries' worth of insular and continental literature, placing the 12th- and 13th-century development of Arthurian romance in a history of fraught, ambiguous relations between Capetian France, Angevin England, and native Wales. Overall, the book aims to contextualize how French Arthurian romance and Welsh rhamant, despite being products of opposing cultures in an age of conquest, collectively revise the figure of King Arthur created by earlier insular tradition. At a time when contemporary monarchies sought to curtail the autonomy of both northern French and Welsh principalities, the literary image of kingship pointedly declines in romance and rhamant, replaced by an ideal of knightly independence. A focus on the romance portrait of King Arthur is the culmination of this study: Part I provides a survey of early British Arthurian material written in Latin and Welsh; Part II presents the historical contexts in northern France and Wales out of which the genre of Arthurian romance emerged; Part III turns to literary and sociopolitical analyses of Chrétien's five romances and the three Welsh rhamantau.

Book excerpt: In good times and bad, in times of economic downturn and times of wartime peril, we as Americans have shown our mettle. There is something in the historical DNA of this people - a resilience, a power, a talent for innovation, a unique and empowering bravery - that has carried us forward as a nation and a people for nearly 250 years. This book is about this history, this inheritance, this people. These characteristics apply not just to the people of the United States as a whole, but to each of us as individuals. Whether we are leaders, followers, friends, co-workers, parents, spouses, partners or simply sojourners in this thing we call life - it is rare for us to see those we care about suffer and not want to change their circumstances or alleviate their suffering. It is an almost in-born trait that we as individuals and as a nation tend to seek ways to overcome the challenges we periodically face. Home of the Brave is about meeting our individual challenges and the challenges of those we care about and care for. It is about finding the time-proven principles in the historical DNA of great Americans that we can draw on - not only for strength but for practical insight and action that can make even the most challenging times more manageable, even conquerable.

Book excerpt: My name is Palladin, as in pallbearer. Learning the skill of killing from his father at an early age, Wesley Palladin, Have Weapons Will Travel, reaches the highest level of his profession as an assassin for the mob in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, Palladin mishandles a contract and exiles himself to Twin River, where he takes a bank security job and also becomes the mentor to fourteen-year-old Matt Henry, a very troubled, violent teenager. Matt is challenged to overcome the tragedy of abuse in his past, deny his quest for revenge, and find hope in the dark, foreboding Shadows of Death that cloak Blood Mountain. Riveting and deadly action originates in Chinatown, the Italian Market, and Bryn Mahr in Philadelphia and relocates ominously to the Twin River farmlands and mountains in Central Pennsylvania. Beset by kidnappings, wild hog attacks, extreme bullying, and unchecked brutality in a juvenile institution, violence prevails in the small mountain community. As the body count rises, unlikely contributions from Holden Caulfield and comedian Bob Hope bring a resolution that is fearsome, unexpected, and also triumphant.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth book about my life with Alzheimer’s. I have written these books to encourage people get the diagnosis made early in the course of the disease. My first neurologist asked me, "What difference does it make?” My diagnosis was made in December 2017, and I think it made all the difference in the world. In the year 1 book, I wrote about getting the diagnosis. In the year 2 book, I wrote about traveling with Alzheimer’s. In the year 3 book, I write about making a transition to more alternate medicine. The present year, the fourth book, I write about maintaining a good cognitive state without much deterioration. I believe each year is different and much more than just a diary. As a physician, I showed my long journey in educating myself and opening myself to new ideas. I hope this gives people with the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s hope and shows them different possibilities of approaching their diagnosis. Next, I will write year 5 of my saga.

Book excerpt: The author was born in N.Y.C, He lived and was educated in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania at private schools, including military academies and Columbia University. Before the age of 10, he had traveled throughout most of Europe with his father and grandfather. After his military service in Vietnam and Europe he continued traveling around the world. His professional career in the Optical industry included a Far East trade mission, to South America, and Europe, with the U.S Department of Commerce. This global travel has given him a unique view of life and the world we live in. However, it was his Grandfather’s home in a small Pennsylvania Valley in the Pocono Mountains that imprinted his soul and spirit. For many years, he with his large family and friends would enjoy his most endearing and memorable times there. While serving in Vietnam during his darkest moments, it was the images of the peaceful valley in Pennsylvania that would sustain him, and inspire his writing. The charm and natural surroundings of the forest and beautiful lake that the home abutted was never to be forgotten. He also utilizes his expertise as a former wine broker to skillfully weave that knowledge into his story. But it’s the author’s deep respect for the American Veteran, love of God and Country that is his greatest inspiration. The Author reaches deep within the reader and touches every emotion a human being possesses.
