The mission is the first with a woman in charge, and Andrea will stop at nothing to ensure this is a textbook perfect mission. Her personal life is virtually nonexistent, and she has devoted her entire life to this, the pinnacle of her career. When the mission runs into serious trouble, Andrea has no choice but to call Kenner Hutchings, a brilliant twenty-something whiz kid from MIT with a reputation for living life fast and loose. Kenner is their last chance to save the lives of the seven astronauts entrusted into Andrea’s care. Andrea doesn’t trust Kenner to get the job done, and Kenner takes it as a challenge to break the reserve of her new boss. Can two strong-willed, powerful women overcome their differences to save the lives of seven others and begin a life they never imagined together?

After the German failure in the Battle of the Bulge, Hitler's bold counter attack across the Ardennes, the war is often assumed to have been all over bar sporadic shooting. This was far from the truth; it was certainly not how those soldiers and civilians at the front saw it. Drawing on American, British, Canadian, German, Dutch and Scandinavian sources, most of them previously unpublished, and starting with the Battle of the Bulge, COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY tells the little known story of those final months through the eyes of ordinary people who had to live the trauma.

The title, The Crosswinds, is an allegory of life and flying as a pilot that details the unexpected, inexplicable, and mysterious events of existence in a world of excitement and wonder. A key to the perplexing nature of his search are the unexpected events that take him to places rarely visited by those with conventional careers and those who do not experience unique spiritual and paranormal events.

The Confirm family of resources reclaims confirmation as the first step on a journey that leads to a mature, adult faith. Confirm treats confirmation as more than a decision. Instead, it is the beginning of a conversation about what it means to be a Christian, living out your faith, your commitment, and God’s call. Confirm is an easy-to-follow and fully customizable confirmation program that can be used virtually any church setting and with a wide variety of schedules. You have the option to schedule your lesson choices and the tools to organize your own confirmation program over the course of a school year, a 3-year span, or in any other way that meets your needs without having to purchase additional customizable content. With flexible and easy-to-understand materials, Confirm provides students with the basic beliefs of a theologically sound, United Methodist faith while engaging them in creative and thought-provoking activities to help them internalize what they’ve learned. Confirm also embraces the importance of community in the journey of faith development, and provides materials to encourage cooperation with parents and mentors in the confirmation process and beyond. This helpful guide provides direction for creating an effective discipleship path for teens using confirmation at your church. Complete with detailed instructions, you will learn how to integrate Confirm with the church’s youth ministry program and other ministries throughout the church. In addition, you will be provided tools for creating specific confirmation assessments and reasonable expectations for youth, pastor, parents, and confirmation leaders.

Book excerpt: Solar Subway Systems invented a way to stretch a wormhole between two points, allowing near-instantaneous travel not only between any two locations on Earth, but also between the planets and satellites of the solar system. SSS VP of Engineering Charles (Scotty) Hays and Chief Scientist Robert (Bobby) Taylor, along with field service genius Carol (Kaley) Sellers, have built SSS into a major multi-billion-dollar corporation. Unfortunately, the SSS portal system allowed a relentlessly hostile alien race to "dial in" to the portal system and launch an invasion. The attack was driven off, but the "Bugs" are still doin their best to forge an entry back to Earth. The invaders are now taking over pirate (unauthorized) portals built to take advantage of the solar-system-wide portal network, and have managed to sneak into hidden locations on Earth. Suddenly humanity's solar system is faced with a Bug invasion already spreading over Earth and also to Mars. Again called into service by the US Intersolar Command, Scotty, Bobby and Kaley must pull off miracles to stop this new invasion of Earth.

He's currently alternating between moods of pitying his second cousin and fighter team leader, Jaxon, and wanting to strangle him. They both have to put their feelings aside though, and concentrate on using lumbering solar array transport ships to help with the repairs of the five Earth solar arrays, because Earth is critically short of power. Fortunately, repairing solar arrays is perfectly routine work, so Drago definitely can't get into trouble. Cover depicts the solar array transport ship, Antares.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Judges have enormous power. They determine whom we can marry, whether we can own firearms, whether the government can mandate that we buy certain products, and how we define "personhood." But who gets to occupy these powerful positions? Up until now, there has been little systematic study of what type of judges get confirmed. In his rigorous yet readable style, John Lott analyzes both historical accounts and large amounts of data to see how the confirmation process has changed over time. Most importantly, Dumbing Down the Courts shows that intelligence has now become a liability for judicial nominees. With courts taking on an ever greater role in our lives, smarter judges are feared by the opposition. Although presidents want brilliant judges who support their positions, senators of the opposing party increasingly "Bork" those nominees who would be the most influential judges, subjecting them to humiliating and long confirmations. The conclusion? The brightest nominees will not end

Book excerpt: About the Book Have a Fun Ride while reading this Wacky, frequently humorous, "Star Trek-like" outer space, action packed, sci-fi fantasy "Satire" about Human Life on Earth -- but it doesn't happen on Earth. This PG-13 story comes straight from a strange solar system that exists near the Center of our Milky Way Galaxy!! And by all means, have Happy Trails while taking the ride. About the Author Just when you thought the last of the real cowboys were extinct from too many rodeos and late-night, hooch-soaked booty calls from women in tight western jeans, here comes writer Paul Garmisch, a true renaissance man who has lived to fill his bucket list. Born in Chicago, 1952, Garmisch was raised on a northern Illinois dairy farm, went to college at the U of Montana for seven years studying forestry, geology, and other environmental sciences. While working his way through college, Garmisch operated earth-moving equipment in Missoula gravel pits and road construction, worked as a fraternity house manager and a sorority house waiter, and was a studio musician, where he played the stand up bass and cello. As a musician, he played music in local taverns with his band. After college Garmisch worked for twenty-some years in Montana and Wyoming—logging, cattle ranching, farming, placer gold mining, field geology, log home construction, forest fire fighting, ski mountaineer guiding, snow avalanche control, wilderness search and rescue and recovery, big game hunting. The list goes on for this well-seasoned outdoorsman. While doing this, Garmisch had his arts hobby—model building and wildlife sculpting, which he turned into a new career in the 1990s. He worked as a professional artist and architectural model maker, and project manager and general manager, specializing in dioramas and special effects painting for companies and museums in San Francisco, Phoenix, Arizona, Nevada, and Chicago. This lasted until 2008. Then Garmisch went back to field geology for placer gold mining in northern California, Nevada, and Arizona. Paul now lives in Las Vegas. Through the numerous trials and tribulations of life in general, married life (twenty-eight years if all three are added up), and having four sons, Garmisch started to note a thing or two about this crazy world we come parading into buck naked and crying. Garmisch decided to write, and his mind collided into a cornucopia of extra high proof storytelling, with a message about real life on Earth from this Homer of the west. “Humor cures all,” says Garmisch, and his stories are loaded with it. Too much fun!! Happy Trails.
