Download or read book Handbook of Cosmetic Ingredients (Part 1 a to I) written by Anthony Dweck and published by . This book was released on 2017-07-19 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to requests to share the data accumulated over the past 45 years and especially the past twenty years examining the safety of cosmetic raw materials I am pleased to publish this book in order to help colleagues. At over a thousand pages it is impossible to supply all the references and it is hoped that this will not detract from the value of the work. The NOAEL (No Observable Adverse Effect Level) value is very rare and where such a figure does not exist I have used data and feedback from over 30,000 formulae of commercially launched products and any adverse feedback to create a virtual NOAEL figure that can be used to calculate out the margin of safety. The animal data, instrumental data, RIPT (Repeat Insult Patch Test) figures, and animal alternative test data have all been taken into consideration when producing this value.

This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ingredients are used in cosmetics to give them specific properties. Certain ingredients, so called active ingredients, may produce pharmacological or toxic effects under certain conditions. Cosmetic products containing such ingredients may pose a health risk both because of their potential toxicity and because they may mask underlying serious diseases and consequently cause a dangerous delay in diagnosis and treatment. The objective of this study is to give safety information on certain active ingredients which give raise to toxicological concerns and for which restrictions of use in cosmetics should be considered.Monographs were prepared for 45 active ingredients for which no specific regulations exist including, inter alia, information about uses, properties, a risk evaluation of the use in cosmetic products considering as toxicological endpoints both systemic and local effects. Each monograph includes a bibliography, conclusions and recommendations. The study complements a series of three volumes containing monographs about the safety of certain natural ingredients used in cosmetics and will serve as a useful reference in the field, for health authorities, manufacturers and health professionals in particular.

Download or read book No More Dirty Looks written by Siobhan O'Connor and published by Da Capo Lifelong Books. This book was released on 2010-07-13 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It started with a harmless quest for perfect wash-and-go hair. Every girl wants it, and Siobhan O'Connor and Alexandra Spunt finally found it in a fancy salon treatment. They were thrilled -- until they discovered that the magic ingredient was formaldehyde. Shocked, O'Connor and Spunt left no bottle unturned. If it went on their body (and thus, was absorbed into their skin and bloodstream), they researched it. As it turns out, many of those unpronounceable ingredients in your self-tanner and leave-in conditioner are not regulated and the "natural" on your face wash doesn't mean what you think it does. Now, with the help of top scientists, dermatologists, and makeup artists, the authors share their compelling findings and the easy way to detoxify your beauty regimen. No More Dirty Looks also reveals the safest, most effective products on the market and time-tested home recipes. Finally, you don't need to sacrifice health for beauty -- because coming clean is the best look yet.
