Book Synopsis Corrosion of Type 316 Stainless Steel in NaK Service by : C. A. Zimmerman
Download or read book Corrosion of Type 316 Stainless Steel in NaK Service written by C. A. Zimmerman and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A literature survey of work on corrosion of stainless steel, especially Type 316, by NaK and sodium has been made, based on information available through September, l964. In general, the Type 316 and Type 3O4 stainless steels should give good performance with NaK. The mechanisms which can lead to failure are attack by impurities at temperatures under 550 degrees centigrade, and carbide precipitation, sigma formation, and mass transfer at higher temperatures.

Book Synopsis Corrosion Experience with Type 316 Stainless Steel in Sodium-Potassium Eutectic Alloy at 1400 Deg. F by :
Download or read book Corrosion Experience with Type 316 Stainless Steel in Sodium-Potassium Eutectic Alloy at 1400 Deg. F written by and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Service test examinations were performed on the Type 316 stainless steel loop for circulating sodium-potassium (NaK) eutectic alloy in the Waste Calcining Facility at the Idaho Chemical Processing Plant. These examinations of the stainless steel loop revealed the cumulative effects of 24,30O hours of operation at temperatures of llOO-l4OOF during the last six years. Although Type 316 stainless steel performed satisfactorily and is still being used in this service, the results showed that changes in mechanical properties and metallurgical effects occur with circulating non-isothermal NaK in contact with Type 316 stainless steel. Some mass transfer of alloying elements from the hot regions of the Type 316 stainless steel loop to the colder regions was observed. The mitigation of these effects is discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquid Metal Corrosion: Fundamental Theory and Applications is designed to help scientists, engineers and students working on liquid metal (sodium, lead, lead-bismuth) to fundamentally understand liquid metal corrosion. Coverage includes a discussion of corrosion mechanisms, fundamental corrosion processes, and corrosion products’ behaviors as well as methods on how to calculate corrosion rates. The book concludes with models designed to predict the corrosion/precipitation distribution in a primary corrosion loop. This book will be a useful resource for researchers in their efforts to determine appropriate materials selection and reactor design. Discusses liquid metal corrosion mechanisms Includes models to estimate/calculate corrosion rates Presents liquid metal corrosion controls and mitigation methods

Book Synopsis Corrosion by Liquid Metals by : J. E. Draley
Download or read book Corrosion by Liquid Metals written by J. E. Draley and published by Springer. This book was released on 1970 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Corrosion Resistant Metals Committee and the Nuclear Metallurgy Committee of the Institute of Metals Division of The Metallurgical Society of AlME sponsored a 2-1/2 day symposium on "Corrosion by Liquid Metals". The symposium was held in Philadelphia, October 13-15, 1969, during the 1969 Fall Meeting of the Metallurgical Society and the Materials Engineering Con gress of the American Society for Metals. Cosponsors included the American Society for Metals and the American Nuclear Society. The purpose of the symposium was to bring together the several aspects of the subject of corrosion by liquid metals, so that perspective could be provided on the entire subject, to help in dividuals dealing with liquid metal corrosion problems acquire a sound basis of understanding, and to provide an opportunity for discussion between those doing research in this field. An exposition of the subject is timely, in view of the in creasing development of liquid metal heat and power sources for special purposes, including heat-pipe systems, NASA's SNAP power systems, and the AEC's liquid metal fast breeder reactor system. This book contains the proceedings of the symposium divided into four separate topics: I. Corrosion of Steels by Sodium, II. Alkali-Refractory Metal Interactions, III. Corrosion by Non-Alkali Metals, and IV. Analysis of Solid-Liquid Metal Inter actions (two sessions).
