Cette étude porte sur la perception des éléments rythmiques du français et des éléments rythmiques de la musique tonale. La population choisie est constituée de 2 groupes d'enfants de 5 ans et de 10 ans, avec pour objectif de comprendre les mécanismes d'acculturation aux systèmes linguistiques et musicaux maternels et leur évolution avec l'âge. Par des tâches de reproduction de rythme, de battement de pulsation et de discrimination auditive de phrases et de séquences musicales dont le rythme a été modifié, ce mémoire met en évidence que chez des enfants, la perception du rythme implique des processus cognitifs communs, en particulier le phénomène de groupement. Il apparaît également que la perception fine des enfants est soumise à l'influence de leur langue maternelle et de leur système musical maternel jusqu'à 10 ans, et sans doute au-delà, avec une prédominance du langage. D'une part, ces résultats supportent, pour le moins au niveau du rythme, les théories proposant un traitement similaire du langage et de la musique. D'autre part, ils justifient l'utilisation de la musique comme outil thérapeutique pour les troubles du langage.

Book excerpt: La parole, comme la musique, possède une structure temporelle rythmique qui s'exprime par la prosodie et la fréquence d'apparition des syllabes et des phonèmes. Des études ont montré que les musiciens développent un traitement du langage plus efficace grâce à une meilleure perception des sons de la parole. D'autre part, un déficit du traitement du rythme a été mis en évidence chez des enfants dyslexiques ou présentant un Trouble Développemental du Langage (TDL). Un entraînement rythmique pourrait alors être un moyen de favoriser et d'optimiser le traitement du signal de parole. Le rythme de la parole étant transmis par des informations multimodales (auditives, visuelles, motrices), l'entraînement rythmique sera d'autant plus efficace s'il sollicite également ces différentes entrées sensorimotrices. Plusieurs études se sont attachées à montrer les effets positifs d'un entraînement rythmique sur la conscience phonologique, le traitement perceptif des phonèmes ou encore les habiletés en lecture, et ce essentiellement dans des populations d'enfants dyslexiques. Or, ces effets pourraient également bénéficier à la production de la parole chez des enfants présentant un trouble phonologique. Les jeunes enfants consultant pour un trouble de la parole étant nombreux en orthophonie, il nous a paru intéressant pour notre pratique de pouvoir apprécier si un travail des compétences rythmiques pouvait améliorer la production de la parole dans cette population. Nous avons donc entrepris d'entraîner les capacités rythmiques de quatre enfants âgés de quatre à six ans, deux fois par semaine pendant sept semaines et de mesurer les répercussions sur leur parole en production et en perception ainsi que sur la mémoire auditivo-verbale. Nos résultats montrent une variabilité entre les enfants mais nous observons des progressions en production phonologique chez la totalité d'entre eux, en perception pour certains et, dans une moindre mesure, sur leurs performances de mémoire auditivo-verbale. Nous concluons qu'un entraînement rythmique peut être utile à la pratique orthophonique si l'entraînement rythmique proposé est multimodal et couplé à la rééducation orthophonique.

Le but de notre travail a été de chercher si la pratique du rythme musical a un effet sur les habiletés langagières des enfants TSLO et TSLE. Ainsi, sept enfants âgés de 9 à 11 ans (six TSLO et TSLE et un TSLE) ont pratiqué la musique en groupe deux fois par semaine pendant dix semaines et se sont entraînés individuellement sur une application trois fois par semaine lors de leurs séances d’orthophonie. En utilisant des tests de langage, nous avons mesuré la conscience phonologique, les habiletés en lecture et le niveau de traitement morphosyntaxique avant et après la période de pratique musicale. Nous avons ensuite comparé les résultats à ceux d’enfants TSLO et TSLE qui n’ont pas pratiqué la musique. Notre étude met en évidence des effets bénéfiques de la pratique du rythme musical sur la conscience phonologique et sur les habiletés en lecture des enfants TSLO et TSLE.

Ainsi, de récents travaux scientifiques menés en éducation et en psychologie démontrent l'importance de l'apprentissage de la musique pour le développement des jeunes enfants (McPherson, 2005; Hallam, Cross et Haut, 2008). La musique engage l'ensemble du cerveau à travers un nombre diversifié d'opérations perceptives et cognitives (Altenmuller, 2003). En outre, quelques études empiriques relèvent que de nombreuses habiletés musicales émergent et se consolident au cours des premières années de vie, particulièrement entre l'âge de quatre et six ans (Gordon, 2003 ; Ilari, 2002 ; Radocy et Boyle, 2003). L'écoute musicale semble faciliter le développement cognitif et plus particulièrement langagier (Kraus et al., 2014). Cette étude qualitative tisse les liens entre la musique et le langage. Elle a pour but d'explorer dans quelle mesure l'écoute de la musique chez des enfants d'âge préscolaire peut aider leur expression orale. Elle porte sur l'analyse de l'écoute de la musique classique pendant des moments de jeux de dix enfants de quatre et cinq ans et plus particulièrement pendant des causeries, afin d'examiner si la musique influence l'expression orale chez ces enfants. L'analyse des résultats soulignent que la majorité des participants sont devenus plus sensibles à l'écoute de la musique et que certains de leurs comportements et gestes suivaient le rythme des chansons. Par ailleurs, les résultats relèvent également que plusieurs participants du groupe ont amélioré leur expression orale et que celle-ci semblait influencée par l'écoute musicale.

Murray Bowen, M.D., the first researcher to observe several live-in families, for up to three years, at the National Institute of Mental Health. Describing how family members overly influence one another and distribute stress unevenly, Bowen described both how symptoms and family leaders emerge in highly stressed families. Our brain is not organized to automatically perceive that each family has an emotional system, fine-tuned by evolution and "valuing" its survival as a whole, as much as the survival of any individual. It is easier to see this emotional system function in ants or mice but not in humans. The emotional system is organized to snooker us humans: encouraging us to take sides, run away from others, to pressure others, to get sick, to blame others, and to have great difficulty in seeing our part in problems. It is hard to see that we become anxious, stressed out and even that we are difficult to deal with. But "thinking systems" can open the doors of perception, allowing us to experience the world in a different way. This book offers both coaching ideas and stories from leaders as to strategies to break out from social control by de-triangling, using paradoxes, reversals and other types of interruptions of highly linked emotional processes. Time is needed to think clearly about the automatic nature of the two against one triangle. Time and experience is required as we learn strategies to put two people together and get self outside the control of the system. In addition, it takes time to clarify and define one's principles, to know what "I" will or will not do and to be able to take a stand with others with whom we are very involved. The good news is that systems' thinking is possible for anyone. It is always possible for an individual to understand feelings and to integrate them with their more rational brains. In so doing, an individual increases his or her ability to communicate despite misunderstandings or even rejection from important others. The effort involved in creating your Mindful Compass enables us to perceive the relationship system without experiencing it's threats. The four points on the Mindful Compass are: 1) Action for Self, 2) Resistance to Forward Progress, 3) Knowledge of Social Systems and the 4) The Ability to Stand Alone. Each gives us a view of the process one enters when making an effort to define a self and build an emotional backbone. It is not easy to find our way through the social jungle. The ability to know emotional systems well enough to take a position for self and to become more differentiated is part of the natural way humans cope with pressure. Now people can use available knowledge to build an emotional backbone, by thoughtfully altering their part in the relationship system. No one knows how far one can go by making an effort to be more of a self-defined individual in relationships to others. Through increasing emotional maturity, we can find greater individual freedom at the same time that we increase our ability to cooperate and to be close to others.
