Book excerpt: This book addresses the rising concept of 21st century societal marketing which entails that marketers should fulfill the needs of their target group in ways that enhance the well-being of a society as a whole. In the past, social responsibility and corporate ethics may not have been the key elements of corporate and business strategy. However, in the last decade the picture has changed dramatically. Consumers are more concerned about ethical issues and the effects of business activities on the environment and the society. The impact and importance of ethical consumerism is escalating. The consumers are more attentive and expect companies promote their ethical credentials in order to make them more accountable of their actions. This book also reveals how companies should realize that corporate social responsibility (CSR) is not an illustration of corporate altruism but a source of opportunity, and competitive advantage. Finding and following social initiatives as a part of the key business model is proved to be one of the competitive strengths in many instances. This book covers different issues related to ethics, social responsibility and sustainability in marketing and presents different cases and applications from different countries. Together with the best practices, each case and research is expected to shed light on how to improve the role of marketing in helping to the development and well-being of the society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the main framework of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in connection with International Marketing. It includes the CSR background, such as its history and examples of how organizations implemented/can implement the philosophy of CSR into their core business. It is also illustrated how companies and organizations can control and measure their social actions. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of the CSR implementation within an organization were compared. This allows the reader to understand which actions are beneficial for the organization and those that are not. The potential of CSR is illustrated by several aspects, followed by a comparison of the results. Greenwashing is of great interest for the everyday person who buys products with the thought of doing something good, for example, in connection with the environment, human rights, etc. One chapter solely concentrates on this subject, demonstrating how people can avoid paying more for a product with false claims, thus abusing their good will to care about social aspects. Greenwashing is part of this book, because it can also be seen as a marketing strategy, misleading conscious consumers, bluntly called fraud. This book demonstrates how CSR can be seen as a marketing tool on an international level, through which organizations can increase not only their assets, but also their reputation making it more attractive for potential new partners and employees.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become increasingly widespread, as businesses seek to incorporate socially responsible behaviors while still being accountable to shareholders. Indeed some research has suggested that CSR in itself can form the basis of good PR by promoting consumers’ purchase decisions. Arguing that this approach is a dangerous oversimplification, this book takes a deeper look at the concept of CSR in a particularly challenging context - casino gaming. Originally the province of seedy, backdoor establishments in isolated cities, casino gaming has become a multibillion-dollar global industry. Drawing on in-depth research in Las Vegas, this unique study examines how and why corporations in the casino industry interpret and engage in CSR through community support, environmental issues, labor rights, and corporate governance. Through in-depth analysis of CSR in this industry, this book adds a new dimension to the debate on the role of CSR and public relations in business. Given the burgeoning relationship between CSR and corporate PR, the book seeks to illuminate CSR’s complexities, contradictions, and moral obligations. It will be of interest to all scholars of public relations, corporate communications, and corporate reputation.

Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Bremen, language: English, abstract: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is defined as "achieving commercial success in ways that honour ethical values and respect people, communities, and the natural environment" and is the topic of interest for this research paper. The aim of study was to investigate CSR communication and how it is perceived with a view to identifying how CSR can be communicated more effectively to consumers. The focus in this context was on relational CSR potentials and the effect of consumer-company identification as a main driving force behind relational CSR effects. In order to achieve this aim a comprehensive literature review was conducted to conceptualise the ideas on CSR, the CSR communication challenge as well the link between CSR information and consumer-company identification. Further, primary research was undertaken in terms of a consumer survey among German students in order to gain an understanding of consumer perceptions as well as to identify critical aspects of CSR communication. Results indicate that in spite of a general tendency of scepticism towards companies, consumers do accept and expect companies to communicate on their CSR activities. It also became apparent that interest in and support of the subject clearly exceed the awareness level, which suggests an unmet receptiveness regarding CSR information. In this context, women showed significantly more support and interest in the topic corroborating the established hypothesis of respective gender differences which was established within the theoretical discussion. As a conclusion of this study female consumers have to be considered as particularly receptive towards CSR information and as a particular valuable target for CSR communication. The high level of support in general and especially am

Book excerpt: In the past few decades, attention has turned to the need to apply commercial marketing concepts, knowledge, and techniques to promote goods, services, and actions that enhance consumer well-being and social welfare through socially and environmentally responsible advertising, for example, recycling promotions. Critics argue, however, that for-profit advertisers who endorse social responsibility are inherently serving commercial purposes and diluting the value of socially responsible advertising. Scholars in many fields—advertising, marketing, communications, and psychology—explore ways to encourage consumers, companies, and policymakers to adopt socially responsible behaviours, and to provide theoretical and practical insights regarding effective applications of pro-social and pro-environmental marketing messages. This book comprises ten chapters that contribute to advertising theory, research, and practice by providing an overview of current and diverse research that compares, contrasts, and reconciles conflicting views regarding social and environmental advertising; uncovering individual differences in perception of advertising messages and their consequences for social and environmental behaviours; reconciling societal and business interests; identifying a message factor that determines eco-friendly behaviours; and identifying source factors that enhance and weaken advertising effectiveness. This book was originally published as a special issue of the International Journal of Advertising.

Book excerpt: Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a concept that has been evolving since the 1950s; by 2015, it has evolved into an integral mindset, a strategy by which firms may promote and attain business and societal growth and development. CSR is a strong business strategy and a determining factor in stakeholder perceptions and ultimate decision making. As firms and society are acknowledged as equal parts of a symbiotic relationship, the effective engagement in CSR enables businesses to tackle and alleviate social issues, such as poverty, hunger, lack of healthcare, the environment's destitution, and warrant empowerment and education, amongst others, whilst tending to core objectives and strategies. The effective design, execution, and transparent communication of corporate social responsibility endeavors, in fact, shape the outcome of business and social growth and development. The communication of CSR efforts is, therefore, vital to the fulfillment of strategic objectives because social networking sites (SNSs) are ubiquitous and have rapidly become a preferred source of information. Firms' use of such platforms proves to be fruitful because SNSs not only enable stakeholder to stakeholder word of mouth, but also facilitate firm-to stakeholder communication. As such, the notion of marketing CSR via social media is more than buzzword or trend. It is potential viral information, or viral marketing. The book offers strong results from the perspectives of both stakeholders and firms' CSR related practices in an emerging market. It also demonstrates that as corporate social responsibility is viewed as an investment, it provides fruitful outcomes for business as well as for the communities surrounding firms. CSR is addressed as a strategically co-created proactive plan that prompts sustained social and business growth and development.
