Download or read book CoReFab written by Ammar Eloueini and published by Oro Editions. This book was released on 2005 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CoReFab combines three words/fields: Concepts + Representation + Fabrication. The book documents five completed projects by AEDS Ammar Eloueini designed and implemented between 2003-2005. The projects are here grouped for evident similarities as well as differences. They are similar in scale, budget, materials and fabrication. They are all designed for a short life-span and have a distinct familial look. Most importantly, they share a consistent research agenda in the use of certain materials, structural techniques and geometries. They differ in their wide-ranging purpose and institutional framework: they are commissioned by a variety of clients ranging from choreographers, fashion designers and art institutions to perform very different tasks. AUTHOR: Ammar Eloueini (born 1968), received a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture in 1995. Teaching at the Ecole d'Architecture Paris-Villemin since 1996, co-founder of the digit-all studio. Participated to the International Exhibition "Transarchitectures 02" launched in Paris in June 1997. Over the past three years, Ammar Eloueini produced projects that challenge traditional design processes. Integrating digital media to investegate new approaches, based on animation software and the use of computers as a design tool. Extending his activities in the theoretical field, he participated in various international ideas competitions, where a conceptual and projectual approach, based on dynamic, non linear systems, answering new architectural and urban complexities was tested. Winner of the Villa Medicis Hors les Murs (AFAA, French Ministry of Culture) in 1998, he is working on a research project (Living in Strereoreality). Other publications include a forthcoming book "digital trilogy, from mass production to mass customization". ILLUSTRATIONS: 55 colour & 5 b/w photographs & 24 illustrations

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Festschrift is in honor of Marilyn Wolf, on the occasion of her 60th birthday. Prof. Wolf is a renowned researcher and educator in Electrical and Computer Engineering, who has made pioneering contributions in all of the major areas in Embedded, Cyber-Physical, and Internet of Things (IoT) Systems. This book provides a timely collection of contributions that cover important topics related to Smart Cameras, Hardware/Software Co-Design, and Multimedia applications. Embedded systems are everywhere; cyber-physical systems enable monitoring and control of complex physical processes with computers; and IoT technology is of increasing relevance in major application areas, including factory automation, and smart cities. Smart cameras and multimedia technologies introduce novel opportunities and challenges in embedded, cyber-physical and IoT applications. Advanced hardware/software co-design methodologies provide valuable concepts and tools for addressing these challenges. The diverse topics of the chapters in this Festschrift help to reflect the great breadth and depth of Marilyn Wolf's contributions in research and education. The chapters have been written by some of Marilyn’s closest collaborators and colleagues.

Book Synopsis Material Strategies in Digital Fabrication by : Christopher Beorkrem
Download or read book Material Strategies in Digital Fabrication written by Christopher Beorkrem and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-02 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author Christopher Beorkrem shows how material performance drives the digital fabrication process and determines technique. He has recreated and dissected thirty-six of the most progressive works of architecture of the last few years, with perspectives from the designers so that you can learn from the successes and failures of each project. Including step-by-step diagrams and using consistent language and the simplest construction techniques, he identifies the important characteristics of each material, including connection types, relative costs, deformation, color, texture, finish, dimensional properties, durability, and weathering and waterproofing to link the design outcomes to form. The book is divided into five parts by material – wood, metal, concrete, hybrids, and recycled – to help you reference construction techniques for the fabrication machines you have on-hand.

Book Synopsis Design and the Elastic Mind by : Paola Antonelli
Download or read book Design and the Elastic Mind written by Paola Antonelli and published by The Museum of Modern Art. This book was released on 2008 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past few decades, individuals have experienced dramatic changes in some of the most established dimensions of human life: time, space, matter, and individuality. Minds today must be able to synthesize such transformations, whether they are working across several time zones, travelling between satellite maps and nanoscale images, drowning in information, or acting fast in order to preserve some slow downtime. Design and the Elastic Mind focuses on designers ability to grasp momentous advances in technology, science and social mores and convert them into useful objects and systems. The projects included range from nanodevices to vehicles, appliances to interfaces and building facades, pragmatic solutions for everyday use to provocative ideas meant to influence our future choices. Designed by award-winning book designer Irma Boom, this volume also features essays by Paola Antonelli; design critic and historian Hugh Aldersey- Williams; visualization design expert Peter Hall; and nanophysicist Ted Sargent that further explore the promising relationship between design and science.

Book Synopsis The Handbook of Interior Architecture and Design by : Graeme Brooker
Download or read book The Handbook of Interior Architecture and Design written by Graeme Brooker and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-10-24 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Interior Architecture and Design offers a compelling collection of original essays that seek to examine the shifting role of interior architecture and interior design, and their importance and meaning within the contemporary world. Interior architecture and interior design are disciplines that span a complexity of ideas, ranging from human behaviour and anthropology to history and the technology of the future. Approaches to designing the interior are in a constant state of flux, reflecting and adapting to the changing systems of history, culture and politics. It is this process that allows interior design to be used as evidence for identifying patterns of consumption, gender, identity and social issues. The Handbook of Interior Architecture and Design provides a pioneering overview of the ideas and arrangements within the two disciplines that make them such important platforms from which to study the way humans interact with the space around them. Covering a wide range of thought and research, the book enables the reader to investigate fully the changing face of interior architecture and interior design, while offering questions about their future trajectory.

Book Synopsis The Early Bronze Age Village on Tsoungiza Hill by : Daniel J. Pullen
Download or read book The Early Bronze Age Village on Tsoungiza Hill written by Daniel J. Pullen and published by American School of Classical Studies at Athens. This book was released on 2011-12-31 with total page 1089 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While "corridor houses" such as the House of the Tiles at Lerna have provoked widespread discussion about the origins of social stratification in Greece, few settlements of the Early Bronze Age (ca. 3100 to 2000 B.C.) have been thoroughly excavated. This important study integrates the presentation and analysis of the archaeological evidence from a single settlement that flourished on Tsoungiza Hill in the Nemea Valley from the Final Neolithic until the end of the Early Helladic period. The first section details the stratigraphy, architecture, deposits, and ceramics of each of the five major periods represented. The second section contains specialist reports on all aspects of material culture including figurines and ornaments, textiles and crafts, metal analyses, chipped and ground stone, and faunal and palaeobotanical remains.
