Book Synopsis Lectures on Core Microeconomics by : Bharat R. Hazari
Download or read book Lectures on Core Microeconomics written by Bharat R. Hazari and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes are based on the microeconomics lectures delivered in the Master of Science in Applied Economics (MSAE) programme at the City University of Hong Kong. They have been delivered in the fall Semesters of 2005- 2007. The lectures are delivered over a period of thirteen weeks (three hours per week). One should always remember the time constraint involved in delivering lectures. Everything can not be covered; therefore one has to be selective in what is taught. This is the reason for calling these lectures core microeconomics. The topics selected and taught reflect our perceptions and value judgement about core topics in microeconomics. Also the students in this class at the City University of Hong Kong come from a very heterogeneous background which varies a lot; medicine, law, mathematics, engineering, physics, biology, and of course economics. The course is designed to teach all these heterogeneous students important topics in microeconomics in a span of thirteen weeks. This is a tough task and many of these students are very ambitious and desirous of doing graduate studies in Europe, Canada, and the US. The feedback on this course has been extremely good from students who are pursuing graduate studies in Britain and the US. These are lecture notes that vary in level at which different topics are taught and also the depth at which these topics are covered. They should not be taken as a substitute for a textbook but as an aid for reading other textbooks.

Book excerpt: This is the book we longed for as we researched the Wallace family tree! It spans 30 generations 1076 2003. The surname, Wallace, originated with "Richard of Wales", born in Wales approximately 1076. He moved to Scotland, where he prospered and founded a town known to this day as Riccarton in Ayrshire. He is the great, great grandfather of Sir William Wallace Brave-heart - Defender of Scotland. English political pressure and religious turmoil caused many Scots to flee Scotland, settling in Ulster, Ireland. Later, religious turmoil in Ulster caused massive migration to America in the mid 1600's. Matthew Wallace, born 1630, in Raphoe, County Donegal, Ireland, arrived in Maryland in 1648. Settling in Somerset County, he became a planter and with fellow immigrants from Ireland, John McKnight and William Alexander, became known as "the Three Kings of Manokin." As the family grew, it began "moving on", some to New England, some to Virginia, others to North Carolina. Today, Wallaces referenced in this book reside in 47 of the 50 United States. Commodore Perry, President Polk, George Wythe, Lew Wallace, Physicians, Clergy, Educators, Military and Civil service are part of this Wallace Saga.
Book Synopsis A Primer on Microeconomics, Second Edition, Volume I by : Thomas M. Beveridge
Download or read book A Primer on Microeconomics, Second Edition, Volume I written by Thomas M. Beveridge and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2018-09-26 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume text represents a common sense approach to basic microeconomics. Economics, far from being the dismal science, offers us valuable lessons that can be applied to our everyday experiences. At its heart, economics is the scientific study of choice and a study of economic principles allows us to achieve a more informed understanding of how we make our choices, whether these choices occur in our everyday life or in our work environment. Volume One, Elements and Principles, delivers clear statements of essential economic principles, supported by easy to understand examples, and uncluttered by extraneous material; the goal is to provide a concise readable primer that covers the fundamentals of microeconomic theory. The text looks at opportunity cost; the rationale for trade; the efficient operation of competitive markets; and develops and expands the economist’s basic demand and supply model.

Book Synopsis Introductory Microeconomics by : Michael Veseth
Download or read book Introductory Microeconomics written by Michael Veseth and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductory Microeconomics explains the basic principles of microeconomics, producer and consumer choices, resource markets, and government policies. The book describes the economics of exchange, such as the role of economic growth, factors that determine the amount and types of exchange, the supply and demand model of market operations, price setting, price changes, and the impact of one market on other markets. The text also explains market failures in terms of free market choice, externalities of failures, monopolies, as well as scarcity and choices leading to poverty. When economic policies are considered by the state, there are trade-offs that are necessary in the exchange. Before the government should make decisions, it always has to consider two opportunity costs, namely, 1) budget constraints, and 2) the opportunity cost of the funds spent in the private sector. For example (no. 1), if more money is spent on transfer payments, less will be left for education, national defense, infrastructure. Another example (no. 2) is when the government collects taxes, a direct loss in real income and utility among consumers will result. The book also presents real world economics in terms of the social security tax in the United States. The book can prove valuable for students of economics or business, sociologists, general readers interested in real-world economics, and policy makers involved in national economic development.
