Download or read book Two-dimensional Compressible Flow in Centrifugal Compressors with Straight Blades written by John D. Stanitz and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six numerical examples are presented for steady, two-dimensional, compressible, nonviscous flow in centrifugal compressors with straight blades. A seventh example is presented for incompressible flow. The solutions also applye to radial-flow turbines with rotation and flow direction reversed. The effects of variations in following parameters were investigated: (1) flow rate, (2) impeller-tip speed, (3) variation of passage height with radius, and (4) number of blades. The numerical results are presented in plots of the streamlines, constant Mach number lines, and constant pressure-ratio lines. Correlation equations are developed whereby the flow conditions in any impeller with straight blades can be determined for all operating conditions.

Book excerpt: The objective of this program was to define the aerodynamic design and manufacturing coordinates for an advanced 4:1 pressure ratio, single stage centrifugal compressor at a 10 lbm/sec flow size. The approach taken was to perform an exact scale of an existing DDA compressor originally designed at a flow size of 3.655 lbm/sec. McKain, Ted F. and Holbrook, Greg J. Glenn Research Center...
Download or read book Internal Flow written by E. M. Greitzer and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-02-26 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the analysis and behaviour of internal flows encountered in propulsion systems, fluid machinery (compressors, turbines and pumps) and ducts (diffusers, nozzles and combustion chambers). The focus is on phenomena that are important in setting the performance of a broad range of fluid devices. The authors show that even for complex processes one can learn a great deal about the behaviour of such devices from a clear understanding and rigorous use of basic principles. Throughout the book they illustrate theoretical principles by reference to technological applications. The strong emphasis on fundamentals, however, means that the ideas presented can be applied beyond internal flow to other types of fluid motion. The book equips students and practising engineers with a range of new analytical tools. These tools offer enhanced interpretation and application of both experimental measurements and the computational procedures that characterize modern fluids engineering.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Turbomachinery by : David Japikse
Download or read book Introduction to Turbomachinery written by David Japikse and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on many years of hands-on teaching experience involving students and practicing engineers alike, this text offers an ideal introduction to the design and performance of turbomachinery. Pumps, compressors, and turbines are described in detail, with emphasis on their key features and the flow equations relevant to each part of the machine. Experimental data are presented to aid understanding. Also covered are boundary layer and computational techniques for flow prediction, stability limits, and structural and modal analysis of blades and rotors. Test bed, laboratory, and workshop procedures for turbomachinery development together with instrumentation issues are also covered, drawing on the authors' wide experience. Fully illustrated and comprehensive in its treatment of turbomachinery types, Introduction to Turbomachinery provides the most up-to-date account of the subject for final-year undergraduates or new graduates beginning a study of turbomachinery, as well as a refresher and reference text for established practitioners.

Book Synopsis Design of Radial Turbomachines by : A. Whitfield
Download or read book Design of Radial Turbomachines written by A. Whitfield and published by Longman. This book was released on 1990 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past three decades advances have been made in the fluid dynamic and thermodynamic design and understanding of radial flow turbomachines. Radial turbomachines possess their own distinctive characteristics, and present the engineer with as full a range of complexities as any fluid flow problem. This book describes the current technology and design methods for centrifugal compressors and radial turbines working in compressible flow. These are of particular relevance to gas turbine engines, internal combustion engine turbochargers, process compressors and cryogenic expanders. The aerodynamic design of the turbomachine is preliminary design to the specification of blade forms and computational fluid dynamic analysis of vane and blade passage flows. The treatment throughout is modern, with full recognition of current computer-aided design methods. However throughout the book a clear separation is made between the fundamental gas dynamics and the empiricism necessary to close the gap between theory and practice in situations of such complexity. Computer program listings for preliminary design are included. The problems posed by specific applications are dealt with in details: for example, techniques for the suppression of surge in centrifugal compressors and a consequent widening of the operating range, and the problems of pulse operation of radial turbines as encountered in turbocharger applications. The book contains comprehensive surveys of the literature in all these fields.

Book excerpt: A comprehensive overview of fluid dynamic models and experimental results that can help solve problems in centrifugal compressors and modern techniques for a more efficient aerodynamic design. Design and Analysis of Centrifugal Compressors isacomprehensive overview of the theoretical fluid dynamic models describing the flow in centrifugal compressors and the modern techniques for the design of more efficient centrifugal compressors. The author — a noted expert in the field, with over 40 years of experience — evaluates relevant numerical and analytical prediction models for centrifugal compressors with special attention to their accuracy and limitations. Relevant knowledge from the last century is linked with new insights obtained from modern CFD. Emphasis is to link the flow structure, performance and stability to the geometry of the different compressor components. Design and Analysis of Centrifugal Compressors is an accessible resource that combines theory with experimental data and previous research with recent developments in computational design and optimization. This important resource Covers the basic information concerning fluid dynamics that are specific for centrifugal compressors and clarifies the differences with axial compressors Provides an overview of performance prediction models previously developed in combination with extra results from research conducted by the author Describes helpful numerical and analytical models for the flow in the different components in relation to flow stability, operating range and performance Includes the fundamental information for the aerodynamic design of more efficient centrifugal compressors Explains the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the design and analysis of centrifugal compressors Written for engineers, researchers and designers in industry as well as for academics specializing in the field, Design and Analysis of Centrifugal Compressors offers an up to date overview of the information needed for the design of more effective centrifugal compressors.
