Book excerpt: Five thousand years ago, there came to earth a magical being called Krishna, who brought about innumerable miracles for the good of mankind. Humanity despaired of its fate if the Blue God were to die but was reassured that he would return in a fresh avatar when needed in the eventual Dark Age-the Kaliyug. In modern times, a poor little rich boy grows up believing that he is that final avatar. Only, he is a serial killer. In this heart-stopping tale, the arrival of a murderer who executes his gruesome and brilliantly thought-out schemes in the name of God is the first clue to a sinister conspiracy to expose an ancient secret-Krishna's priceless legacy to mankind. Historian Ravi Mohan Saini must breathlessly dash from the submerged remains of Dwarka and the mysterious lingam of Somnath to the icy heights of Mount Kailash, in a quest to discover the cryptic location of Krishna's most prized possession. From the sand-washed ruins of Kalibangan to a Vrindavan temple destroyed by Aurangzeb, Saini must also delve into antiquity to prevent a gross miscarriage of justice. Ashwin Sanghi brings you yet another exhaustively researched whopper of a plot, while providing an incredible alternative interpretation of the Vedic Age that will be relished by conspiracy buffs and thriller-addicts alike.

Book excerpt: Chants of a Lifetime offers an intimate collection of stories, teachings, and insights from Krishna Das, who has been called "the chant master of American yoga" by the New York Times. Since 1994, the sound of his voice singing traditional Indian chants with a Western flavor has brought the spiritual experience of chanting to audiences all over the world. He has previously shared some of his spiritual journey through talks and workshops, but now he offers a unique book-with-audio download combination that explores his fascinating path and creates an opportunity for just about anyone to experience chanting in a unique and special way. Chants of a Lifetime includes photos from Krishna Das’s years in India and also from his life as a kirtan leader—and the audio that is offered exclusively in the book consists of a number of "private" chanting sessions with the author. Instead of just being performances of chants for listening, the recordings make it seem as if Krishna Das himself is present for a one-on-one chanting session. The idea is for the listener to explore his or her own practice of chanting and develop a deepening connection with the entire chanting experience.
Book Synopsis Theatre and Religion on Krishna’s Stage by : D. Mason
Download or read book Theatre and Religion on Krishna’s Stage written by D. Mason and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-05-25 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theatre and Religion on Krishna s Stage examines the history and form of India's râs lila folk theatre, and discusses how this theatre functions as a mechanism of worship and spirituality among Krishna devotees in India. From analyses of performances and conversations with performers, audience, and local scholars, Mason argues that râs lila actors and audience alike actively assume roles that locate them together in the spiritual reality that the play represents. Correlating Krishna devotion and theories of religious experience, this book suggests that the emotional experience of theatrical fiction may arise from the propensity of audiences to play out roles of their own through which they share a performance's reality.

Man has yet to grow to that height where he can be a contemporary of Krishna’s. He is still beyond man’s understanding; he continues to puzzle and battle us. Only in some future time will we be able to understand him and appreciate his virtues. And there are good reasons for it.
Download or read book Making Sense written by E. Mara Green and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2024-07-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A free ebook version of this title is available through Luminos, University of California Press's Open Access publishing program. Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more. Making Sense explores the experiential, ethical, and intellectual stakes of living in, and thinking with, worlds wherein language cannot be taken for granted. In Nepal, many deaf signers use Nepali Sign Language (NSL), a young, conventional signed language. The majority of deaf Nepalis, however, use what NSL signers call natural sign. Natural sign involves conventional and improvisatory signs, many of which recruit semiotic relations immanent in the social and material world. These features make conversation in natural sign both possible and precarious. Sense-making in natural sign depends on signers' skillful use of resources and on addressees' willingness to engage. Natural sign reveals the labor of sense-making that in more conventional language is carried by shared grammar. Ultimately, this highly original book shows that emergent language is an ethical endeavor, challenging readers to consider what it means, and what it takes, to understand and to be understood.

Book Synopsis Celestial Conversations: Sudama's Heartfelt Letters to Krishna by : Yamini Malhotra
Download or read book Celestial Conversations: Sudama's Heartfelt Letters to Krishna written by Yamini Malhotra and published by SGSH Publications. This book was released on 2024-08-08 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the sacred town of Vrindavan, where the air hums with divine melodies and the Yamuna flows with the grace of celestial rhythms, the legend of Lord Krishna, the Blue Prince, thrives in the hearts of His devotees. This book is a humble offering from Sudama, Krishna’s childhood friend and steadfast devotee, whose life was profoundly touched by the benevolence and divine play of the Lord. Hypothetically, as Janmashtami approaches this August, celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, Sudama, present this collection of letters as a token of his eternal gratitude and love for his dearest friend. These letters are more than just words on parchment; they are the echoes of Sudama’s heart, filled with the myriad emotions and bhavas that Krishna has inspired within him throughout their journey together. In their youth, Krishna and Sudama shared the pure, unblemished bond of friendship in the serene environs of gurukul. Those days were marked by simplicity and joy, where they learned, played, and shared meals, oblivious to the vast destinies that awaited them. Krishna’s laughter was like the chime of temple bells, and His wisdom was a guiding light even then. Years later, when Sudama found himself in dire poverty, it was Krishna’s boundless compassion that transformed his life. With a heart as vast as the cosmos, He welcomed him into His palace, not as a poor Brahmin seeking alms, but as a dear friend in need. The Lord’s grace not only filled his household with wealth but also enriched his soul with the divine nectar of love. Each letter in this collection encapsulates a facet of gratitude and devotion. They recount the days in the gurukul, the simple joys of shared meals, and the overwhelming grace that Krishna bestowed upon his family. Through these letters, I have tried to convey the profound impact of His divine play (leela) on Sudama’s life and the myriad emotions it has evoked within. This book is not merely a compilation of words; it is a heartfelt tribute to the divine friendship that transcends the mundane bounds of this world. It is my hope that as you read these letters, you too will feel the divine presence of Krishna, the Blue Prince of Vrindavan, and be inspired by the boundless love and compassion that He embodies. With utmost reverence and devotion, Sudama offer this humble gift to his beloved Krishna on the auspicious occasion of His birthday, Janmashtami. May these letters serve as a testament to the eternal bond of friendship and the divine grace that He showers upon us all.
