This book was released on 2010-12-07 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemical Batch Reactor is aimed at tackling the above problems from a blending of academic and industrial perspectives. Advanced solutions (i.e., those based on recent research results) to the four fundamental problems of modeling, identification, control and fault diagnosis for batch processes are developed in detail in four distinct chapters. In each chapter, a general overview of foundational concepts is also given, together with a review of recent and classical literature on the various subjects. To provide a unitary treatment of the different topics and give a firm link to the underlying practical applications, a single case study is developed as the book progresses; a batch process of industrial interest, i.e., the phenol-formaldehyde reaction for the production of phenolic resins, is adopted to test the various techniques developed. In this way, a roadmap of the solutions to fundamental problems, ranging from the early stages of the production process to the complete design of control and diagnosis systems, is provided for both industrial practitioners and academic researchers.

Download or read book The Mathematical Understanding of Chemical Engineering Systems written by Neal R. Amundson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 838 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Understanding of Chemical Engineering Systems is a collection of articles that covers the mathematical model involved in the practice of chemical engineering. The materials of the book are organized thematically into section. The text first covers the historical development of chemical engineering, and then proceeds to tackling a much more technical and specialized topics in the subsequent sections. The second section talks about the physical separation process, while the third section deals with stirred tank stability and control. Next, the book tackles polymerization and particle problems. Section 6 discusses empty tubular and fixed-bed catalytic reactors, while Section 7 details fluid-bed reactors and coal combustion. In the last two sections, the text presents mathematical and miscellaneous papers. The book will be most useful to researchers and practitioners of chemical engineering. Mathematicians and chemists will also benefit from the text.

Book Synopsis Modern Control Methods for Chemical Reactors by : Jiri Vojtesek
Download or read book Modern Control Methods for Chemical Reactors written by Jiri Vojtesek and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical reactors are often characterized by highly nonlinear behaviour. In such a case the use of the conventional control strategies that employ PI or PID controllers with fixed parameters can result in poor performance. The combination of the simulation and experiments on the real model of the system was used here. Simulations have several advantages over experiments on the real system. Among them are the lower costs, increased safety and less time consumption. On the other hand, simulation results could sometimes are not very accurate. Steady-state analysis is usually the first step in the investigation of the system. The first control approach used in the work is the adaptive control which is based on recursive identification of the external linear model (ELM) originally nonlinear system. The second approach used in this work is the Generalized Predictive Control (GPC) where the future control sequence is computed by the minimizing the error between reference and output signal on the prediction horizon. All control methods were verified on the mathematical model of CSTR and the tubular chemical reactor and the real model of CSTR.
