Book Synopsis Time-Dependent Behaviour of Concrete Structures by : Raymond Ian Gilbert
Download or read book Time-Dependent Behaviour of Concrete Structures written by Raymond Ian Gilbert and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-09-15 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serviceability failures of concrete structures involving excessive cracking or deflection are relatively common, even in structures that comply with code requirements. This is often as a result of a failure to adequately account for the time-dependent deformations of concrete in the design of the structure. The serviceability provisions embodied in codes of practice are relatively crude and, in some situations, unreliable and do not adequately model the in-service behaviour of structures. In particular, they fail to adequately account for the effects of creep and shrinkage of the concrete. Design for serviceability is complicated by the non-linear and inelastic behaviour of concrete at service loads. Providing detailed information, this book helps engineers to rationally predict the time-varying deformation of concrete structures under typical in-service conditions. It gives analytical methods to help anticipate time-dependent cracking, the gradual change in tension stiffening with time, creep induced deformations and the load independent strains caused by shrinkage and temperature changes. The calculation procedures are illustrated with many worked examples. A vital guide for practising engineers and advanced students of structural engineering on the design of concrete structures for serviceability and provides a penetrating insight into the time-dependent behaviour of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures.

Book Synopsis Control of Cracking in Reinforced Concrete Structures by : Francis Barre
Download or read book Control of Cracking in Reinforced Concrete Structures written by Francis Barre and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents new guidelines for the control of cracking in massive reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Understanding this behavior during construction allows engineers to ensure properties such as durability, reliability, and water- and air-tightness throughout a structure’s lifetime. Based on the findings of the French national CEOS.fr project, the authors extend existing engineering standards and codes to advance the measurement and prediction of cracking patterns. Various behaviors of concrete under load are explored within the chapters of the book. These include cracking of ties, beams and in walls, and the simulation and evaluation of cracking, shrinkage and creep. The authors propose new engineering rules for crack width and space assessment of cracking patterns, and provide recommendations for measurement devices and protocols. Intended as a reference for design and civil engineers working on construction projects, as well as to aid further work in the research community, applied examples are provided at the end of each chapter in the form of expanded measurement methods, calculations and commentary on models.
Book Synopsis Practical Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings by : Syed Mehdi Ashraf

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will provide comprehensive, practical knowledge for the design of reinforced concrete buildings. The approach will be unique as it will focus primarily on the design of various structures and structural elements as done in design offices with an emphasis on compliance with the relevant codes. It will give an overview of the integrated design of buildings and explain the design of various elements such as slabs, beams, columns, walls, and footings. It will be written in easy-to-use format and refer to all the latest relevant American codes of practice (IBC and ASCE) at every stage. The book will compel users to think critically to enhance their intuitive design capabilities.
Book Synopsis Structural Concrete by : J. D. Davies
Download or read book Structural Concrete written by J. D. Davies and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-05 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Concrete examines the behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures under working load and ultimate load conditions. This eight-chapter text deals first with the analysis of concrete structures as a particular branch of structural mechanics. Other chapters explore the empirical methods and the practical design and detailing procedures. Considerable chapters describe the mechanical behavior of structural concrete, with a particular emphasis on the elastic behavior. The final chapters examine the behavior of continuous beams, frames, and slabs. These chapters also look into the models for structural concrete. This book is intended primarily to undergraduate civil engineering students.
Download or read book Concrete Structures written by A. Ghali and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-10-28 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents the most effective analysis for predicting the true stresses and deflections of concrete structures, accounting for creep and shrinkage of concrete and relaxation of prestressed reinforcement. Sustainability has become a major requirement in modern structures, which need to sustain satisfactory service over a longer life. It is not rare to specify a life span of 100 years for infrastructure such as bridges. This complete and wide-ranging study of stresses and deformations of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures focuses on design methods for avoiding the deflections and cracking that diminish serviceability. This fourth edition has a new emphasis on designing for serviceability. It has been comprehensively updated. It now includes 65 solved examples and more than 45 instructive problems with answers given at the end of the book. An accompanying website contains design calculation programs, which allow interactive data input. Independent of codes of practice, the book is universally applicable, and is especially suitable for practising engineers and graduate students.
