Book excerpt: Les déformations induites par les champs magnétiques dans des matériaux ferromagnétiques constituent l'une des sources du bruit émis par les machines électriques. L'identification quantitative de ces déformations représente un problème inverse délicat: elles correspondent a deux mécanismes différents viz., des déformations dues a des efforts d'origine electromagnetique et des déformations dites de magnétostriction. Une première analyse bibliographique de plusieurs formulations des efforts d'origine electromagnetique tente de justifier le choix de celle d'eringen & maugin. La deuxième partie de ce travail est consacrée a l'étude magneto-elastique expérimentale et analytique ou numérique de deux structures de géométries différentes (tore sous champ magnétique circonférentiel et plaque sous champ quasi uniaxial) mais constituées du même matériau (fer pur armco). Cette analyse constitue une tentative de validation expérimentale, d'une part de la formulation des efforts d'origine electromagnetique choisie, et d'autre part, de l'hypothèse de partition faite dans cette étude entre déformations induites par ces efforts et déformations de magnétostriction pure. Dans un troisième temps, le formalisme thermodynamique, une formulation variationnelle et les analogies entre les problèmes magnétique et thermique stationnaires sont utilises pour faire une classification des couplages entre phénomènes mécaniques, thermiques et electromagnetiques, et pour développer dans le programme de calcul industriel par éléments finis castem 2000 un outil d'analyse magneto-mecanique couplee de structures planes ou axisymétriques en matériaux aux comportements mécanique élastique linéaire et magnétique réversible non linéaire. Book excerpt: Ce travail a pour objectif l'étude des interactions entre les phénomènes magnétiques et mécaniques au sein des matériaux ferromagnétiques solides utilisés dans la conception des dispositifs électromagnétiques. L'étude concerne à la fois les interactions intervenants au niveau des lois de conservation de la thermomécanique (via les efforts et l'énergie électromagnétique) et celles intervenants dans les lois de comportement magnéto-mécaniques a introduire (plus connues sous le vocable de magnétostriction). Le mémoire s'articule autour de deux grandes parties. Dans la première partie, on présente les principes généraux de l'interaction du champ électromagnétique avec la matière continue et déformable. Les principaux problèmes liés à l'expression des efforts et de l'énergie électromagnétique dans la matière polarisée et magnétisée, sont illustrés et discutés. Cela a permis de choisir une théorie électrodynamique permettant une formulation cohérente des efforts et de l'énergie électromagnétique. La seconde partie concerne la description des principaux aspects microstructuraux lies à la déformation et a l'aimantation macroscopique des matériaux ferromagnétiques. Un modèle de comportement magnéto-élastique a été développé. Il traduit l'existence et la nature des processus microstructuraux par trois schémas constitutifs : deux pour les phénomènes magnétiques et mécaniques réversibles et un troisième pour l'hystérésis magnétique. La prise en compte du modèle dans la résolution des équations de la mécanique des milieux continus a permis d'évaluer les déformations magnétostrictives globales ainsi que celles dues aux efforts magnétiques au sein d'un dispositif électromagnétique. Enfin, on présente un dispositif expérimentale permettant la mesure simultanée des déformations magnétostrictives et de l'aimantation d'un matériau en fonction du champ magnétique appliqué. Ce qui a permis la vérification de l'aspect prédictif du modèle.

Some recent results on the generalized standard model are given and their connection to Hill’s general formulation is presented. Instability phenomena of inelastic flow processes such as strain localization and necking are discussed. The second theme concerns stability and bifurcation problems in internally damaged or cracked colids. In brittle fracture or brittle damage, the evolution law of crack lengths or damage parameters is time-independent like in plasticity and leads to a similar mathematical description of the quasi-static evolution. Stability and non-bifurcation criteria in the sense of Hill can be again obtained from the discussion of the rate response.
