This book was released on 2012-11-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Working Group M.O. (Interactions of soil minerals with organic components and microorganisms) (WGMO) of the International Soil Science Society (ISSS) was founded in 1990 at the 14th World Congress of Soil Science (Kyoto, Japan), with Professor P.M. Huang being the Chairman. Since then, the Working Group M.O. has served as a forum to bring together soil chemists, soil mineralogists, soil microbiologists, soil biochemists, soil physi cists and environmental, ecological, and health scientists. The objective of the Working Group M.O. is to promote research, teaching, and also the exchange of technology concerning the knowledge and the impact of the interactions between minerals-organics and microorganisms on environmental quality, agricultural sustainability, and ecosystem "health". This group is first a scientific group as defined just previously, but it also intends to develop exchange and transfer between scientists and engineers. The first International Meeting organized by Professor P. M. Huang, was held in Edmonton, Canada, in August 1992, where 87 papers were presented by scientists from 20 countries. Following this meeting, a two volume book was edited by P. M. Huang, J. Berthelin, J.-M. Bollag, W. B. McGill, and A. L. Page, entitled "Environmental impact of soil component interaction" : Volume I "Natural and anthropogenic organic-volume II "Metals, other inorganic and microbial activities", and published by c.R.C. Lewis Pub lishers (1995).

Book Synopsis Molecular Biology & Biotechnology of the Grapevine by : Kalliopi A. Roubelakis-Angelakis
Download or read book Molecular Biology & Biotechnology of the Grapevine written by Kalliopi A. Roubelakis-Angelakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grapevine is one of the major cultivated plant crops. As with most woody plant species, molecular biology and biotechnology have progressed at a slow pace, due to several obstacles which have had to be overcome. However, substantial progress has now been made and useful information has been accumulated in the literature; numerous genes have been characterized from grapevine and significant progress has been made in the molecular and non-molecular biotechnological applications. In an effort to collect and present the state of the art on grapevine molecular biology and biotechnology, 41 scientists from 12 countries worked jointly on the preparation of this book. It is intended as a reference book for viticulturists, graduate and undergraduate students, biotechnological companies, and any scientist who is interested in molecular biology and biotechnology of plants with emphasis on grapevine.

Book excerpt: How To Be a Bitch: How Women Who Have It All Actually Have It All Have you been in a situation where you say things like, "I can't bring this painting out this way, it is not good enough," "I would have loved to take the job but I think I am not ready for it," or, "Why should I show an interest when other people can do it far better than me?" If you have, it shows that your confidence is low and it is holding you back, limiting your choices, and finally giving your power to perfectionism-something that we shouldn't do. This book has the tricks that will empower you as a woman. You will learn how to outgrow your career. It is time to know how to balance everything in your life. There are also aspects of how to develop good habits, persevering and ensuring you attain more productivity. No one is born blank. Nature has created several placeholders in us - there is the part of us that yearns for the 'Hows.' How do I look attractive? How do I avoid being rude? How do I compare? How do I win over that guy? And, of course, how do I succeed? To each one of these and several others, we have answers. These answers are not carefully thought-out ones - we just happen to know the answers, thanks to society. Society performs one function - it fills in the various blank spaces in our consciousness with different types of ideas, thoughtful and dogmatic. You really cannot blame yourself for having these ideas - not many of us are born geniuses. The ability to sit down and contemplate our affairs very profoundly and critically is something we learn with considerable effort. But because we lack the determination to carry out this exercise, we simply follow the current of society. Do you think I am wrong? Well, let's see, shall we? Book Synopsis Ibn al-Haytham's Theory of Conics, Geometrical Constructions and Practical Geometry by : Roshdi Rashed
Download or read book Ibn al-Haytham's Theory of Conics, Geometrical Constructions and Practical Geometry written by Roshdi Rashed and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-26 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Conics, Geometrical Constructions and Practical Geometry: A History of Arabic Sciences and Mathematics Volume 3, provides a unique primary source on the history and philosophy of mathematics and science from the mediaeval Arab world. The present text is complemented by two preceding volumes of A History of Arabic Sciences and Mathematics, which focused on founding figures and commentators in the ninth and tenth centuries, and the historical and epistemological development of ‘infinitesimal mathematics’ as it became clearly articulated in the oeuvre of Ibn al-Haytham. This volume examines the increasing tendency, after the ninth century, to explain mathematical problems inherited from Greek times using the theory of conics. Roshdi Rashed argues that Ibn al-Haytham completes the transformation of this ‘area of activity,’ into a part of geometry concerned with geometrical constructions, dealing not only with the metrical properties of conic sections but with ways of drawing them and properties of their position and shape. Including extensive commentary from one of world’s foremost authorities on the subject, this book contributes a more informed and balanced understanding of the internal currents of the history of mathematics and the exact sciences in Islam, and of its adaptive interpretation and assimilation in the European context. This fundamental text will appeal to historians of ideas, epistemologists and mathematicians at the most advanced levels of research.
