Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 1999 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L'ANALYSE MORPHOLOGIQUE DES MATERIAUX EST A L'HEURE ACTUELLE UN PASSAGE OBLIGE POUR BIEN COMPRENDRE LEUR COMPORTEMENT ET EN AMELIORER LES PERFORMANCES, GRACE A UN CONTROLE DE LEUR MICROSTRUCTURE. DANS LE CAS DES MATERIAUX DE GENIE CIVIL, CETTE ETUDE EST D'AUTANT PLUS COMPLEXE QUE CES MATERIAUX PRESENTENT UN CARACTERE MULTI-ECHELLE ET MULTIPHASE. CE TRAVAIL A POUR BUT DE MONTRER LA FAISABILITE DE L'UTILISATION DE L'OUTIL ANALYSE D'IMAGES POUR CARACTERISER CES MATERIAUX. DEUX POINTS SONT CONSIDERES : L'HYDRATATION DU CIMENT PORTLAND ET LA MORPHOLOGIE D'UN BETON. CE MEMOIRE S'ARTICULE EN TROIS PARTIES. LA PREMIERE EST CONSACREE A LA PRESENTATION DU MATERIAU ET DES TECHNIQUES D'ANALYSE D'IMAGES ; LA SECONDE CONCERNE L'ETUDE DE L'HYDRATATION DU CIMENT PORTLAND ; LA DERNIERE PARTIE DE CE TRAVAIL PORTE SUR L'ETUDE DE LA MORPHOLOGIE D'UN BETON, ET PLUS PARTICULIEREMENT SUR LA REPARTITION DES VIDES. DE L'ETUDE DE L'HYDRATATION, ON RETIENDRA QUE L'ANALYSE D'IMAGES PERMET D'OBTENIR DES INFORMATIONS SUPPLEMENTAIRES PAR RAPPORT AUX TECHNIQUES PHYSIQUES, NOTAMMENT SUR LA MORPHOLOGIE DES PHASES ET LEUR AGENCEMENT. LES RESULTATS OBTENUS SUR L'ETUDE DE LA MORPHOLOGIE D'UN BETON MONTRENT LA RICHESSE DES INFORMATIONS APPORTEES PAR LES TECHNIQUES D'ANALYSE D'IMAGES (ETUDE MORPHOLOGIQUE ET GRANULOMETRIQUE, ETUDE DE LA DISPERSION ET DE L'HOMOGENEITE), MAIS AUSSI LA CONCORDANCE DES DIFFERENTES METHODES POUR ABOUTIR AUX MEMES RESULTATS. EN CE QUI CONCERNE PLUS PRECISEMENT LA REPARTITION DES VIDES, QUATRE ALGORITHMES AUTOMATIQUES DE MESURE DE DISTANCE INTER-VIDES ONT ETE MIS AU POINT. UNE CORRELATION A PARTIR DE L'UNE DES METHODES DEVELOPPEES A PU ETRE FAITE AVEC LES METHODES MANUELLES COURAMMENT UTILISEES. POUR FINIR, CETTE ETUDE OUVRE DES VOIES VERS UNE MODELISATION DE LA MICROSTRUCTURE COMPLEXE DE CES MATERIAUX DE GENIE CIVIL. UNE VOIE D'INVESTIGATION EST PROPOSEE POUR LA MODELISATION D'UN BETON. LES PREMIERS RESULTATS OBTENUS APPARAISSENT PROMETTEURS.

Book excerpt: Earthen architecture constitutes one of the most diverse forms of cultural heritage and one of the most challenging to preserve. It dates from all periods and is found on all continents but is particularly prevalent in Africa, where it has been a building tradition for centuries. Sites range from ancestral cities in Mali to the palaces of Abomey in Benin, from monuments and mosques in Iran and Buddhist temples on the Silk Road to Spanish missions in California. This volume's sixty-four papers address such themes as earthen architecture in Mali, the conservation of living sites, local knowledge systems and intangible aspects, seismic and other natural forces, the conservation and management of archaeological sites, research advances, and training.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applying any material to an existing concrete surface intrinsically entails the development of a bond. Considering the ever increasing importance of concrete repair and protection, which imply the creation of an interface between two materials, an improved knowledge of concrete surface characteristics is paramount. Surface engineering, which has evolved from the world of metallurgy, addresses all surface-related considerations, notably adhesion. It provides a fundamental understanding of what will make the contact between two materials effective or not, allowing for interactions of variable intensity. It also comes with a variety of scientific tools for characterizing the quality of the substrate, the properties of the new material layer and their interface. In the case of concrete surface treatment, this is especially important for achieving lasting results. This book addresses the essentials of concrete surface engineering in view of a wide variety of concrete surface treatments, from protective coatings to repairs. It provides a leading-edge source of information for practicing engineers, architects, repair specialists, and researchers on the following topics: Surface engineering principles applied to concrete Methods and techniques for assessing concrete surface characteristics Fundamentals of adhesion between concrete and surface repairs/treatments Compatibility requirements for concrete surface repairs/treatments Review of surface preparation techniques available for concrete Achievement and appraisal of bond between existing concrete and surface repairs/treatments Benoît Bissonnette is professor of civil engineering at Laval University in Quebec City, Canada. Luc Courard is professor of building materials at the University of Liège in Belgium. Andrzej Garbacz is professor of building materials engineering in the Department of Building Materials Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology in Poland.
