Book excerpt: De nombreux travaux consacrés à l'étude du phénomène de colmatage et des mécanismes induisant une limitation du transfert de masse à travers la membrane dans le cas de la microfiltration tangentielle ont montré que l'écoulement de la suspension tangentiellement à la membrane permet d'atteindre un régime stationnaire. Dans le présent travail, l'identification des mécanismes de colmatage et de decolmatage d'une membrane de microfiltration tangentielle a été effectuée a l'aide d'une suspension modèle et minérale de carbonate de calcium caco#3 et d'une membrane organique choisie judicieusement de sorte que le colmatage provoque soit exclusivement superficiel. Cette étude montre que le mécanisme à l'origine du régime stationnaire observe en microfiltration tangentielle est le transfert de matière d'origine hydrodynamique. Nous montrons ainsi que le coefficient de transfert de matière est donne par la solution de leveque à la condition de prendre en compte l'épaisseur des dépôts formes. La détermination de l'épaisseur a été réalisée en exploitant la théorie des écoulements à travers les milieux poreux. Des hystérésis du flux de filtrat ont été observées lors de variations cycliques de la pression transmembranaire, de la concentration et de la vitesse. Nous avons déduit de ces essais que le decolmatage ne pouvait se faire que par action mécanique sous forme de contrainte critique d'érosion exercée par le fluide à la surface du dépôt. Un modèle permettant de caractériser la limite de stabilité mécanique du dépôt a été propose sous forme d'une relation entre la contrainte de cisaillement critique en fonction de la contrainte normale qui s'exerce sur la monocouche supérieure de particules.
