In imaging systems, the aim is not just to estimate unobserved images but also their geometric characteristics from observed quantities that are linked to these unobserved quantities by a known physical or mathematical relationship. In this manner techniques such as image enhancement or addition of hidden detail can be delivered. This book focuses on imaging and vision problems that can be clearly described in terms of an inverse problem where an estimate for the image and its geometrical attributes (contours and regions) is sought. The book uses a consistent methodology to examine inverse problems such as: noise removal; restoration by deconvolution; 2D or 3D reconstruction in X-ray, tomography or microwave imaging; reconstruction of the surface of a 3D object using X-ray tomography or making use of its shading; reconstruction of the surface of a 3D landscape based on several satellite photos; super-resolution; motion estimation in a sequence of images; separation of several images mixed using instruments with different sensitivities or transfer functions; and much more.

Après un descriptif des bases de topologie et de graphe, où nous nous baserons sur les complexes cellulaires de Kovalesky pour définir une topologie sur les images, nous étudierons particulièrement les graphes d'adjacence de régions et les cartes discrètes dans la perceptive de réduire la taille la taille de la structure tout en préservant le maximum de propriétés héritées de la topologie du support de l'image. L'utilisation des cartes discrètes sur des architectures parallèles est présentée. Nous montrons que le graphe d'adjacence de régions n'est pas très adapté au parallélisme car le maintien de la cohérence des informations entre les processeurs est coûteux à réaliser tandis que l'utilisation du graphe dual, cependant légèrement modifié, est bien adaptée. Ce travail a été ensuite ouvert sur la construction de hiérarchies de graphes par fusion de régions et sur l'appariement partiel de ces hiérarchies. Un domaine différent est ensuite abordé : la généralisation de la déformation de courbes discrètes à des supports irréguliers en 2D, ainsi que la mise en évidence des difficultés de généralisation en 3D. Enfin une synthèse est présentée sur une ouverture possible des graphes d'adjacence de régions, qui n'ont qu'un seul type d'arête mais ont une représentation hiérarchique, vers les graphes sémantiques, qui ont plusieurs types d'arêtes mais n'ont pas de représentation hiérarchique

La classification non supervisée de gènes vise à regrouper en ensembles significatifs les gènes d'un organisme, vu comme un système complexe, conformément aux données expérimentales afin de dégager des actions concertées de ces gènes dans les mécanismes biologiques mis en jeu. Nous basons notre approche sur des modèles probabilistes graphiques. Plus spécifiquement, nous utilisons l'outil de champs de Markov cachés qui permet la prise en compte simultanée de données propres à chacun des gènes grâce a des distributions de probabilités et de données traduisant un réseau d'interaction au sein de l'organisme a l'aide d'un graphe non-orienté entre les gènes. Apres avoir présenté la problématique et le contexte biologique, nous décrivons le modèle utilise ainsi que les stratégies algorithmiques d'estimation des paramètres (Le. approximations de type champ moyen). Puis nous nous intéresserons à deux particularités des données auxquelles nous avons été confrontés et qui amènent des développements du modèle utilise, notamment la prise en compte de l'absence de certaines observations et la haute dimensionnalité de celles-ci. Enfin nous présenterons des expériences sur données simulées ainsi que sur données réelles sur la levure qui évaluent le gain apporté par notre travail. Notamment nous avons voulu mettre l'accent sur des interprétations plausibles des résultats obtenus.

Book excerpt: Le mémoire présente le développement d'une représentation multi-échelle d'images par une famille de pyramides morphologiques et ses applications à l'analyse et à la fusion d'images en télédétection. La représentation hiérarchique proposée est basée sur une approche pyramidale utilisant les filtres non linéaires de la morphologie mathématique. La partie II propose d'abord un état de l'art des transformations pyramidales puis décrit le principe de la pyramide morphologique. Ses propriétés sont étudiées au travers de différents paramétrages et des familles qui en découlent. La pyramide morphologique permet d'une part, de séparer à chaque niveau de résolution les éléments de détails par leur taille et leur réflectance par rapport à l'environnement, et, d'autre part, de représenter les images aux niveaux de perception inférieurs. La partie III du mémoire est consacrée aux applications des pyramides morphologiques à l'analyse des surfaces observées. La décomposition des éléments imbriqués dans les scènes en signaux séparables à différentes résolutions démontre la capacité de caractérisation multi-échelle. On montre également comment des traitements de reconstruction appliqués aux détails contribuent à cette analyse. Différents exemples de paysages analysés illustrent la méthodologie développée. La partie IV consiste à fusionner des données de résolutions différentes, notamment celles issues de capteurs à haute résolution et à grand champ de vue. L'approche de fusion par pyramide morphologique créé ainsi des données de synthèse à haute résolution spatiale et à haute fréquence temporelle qui permettent une approche nouvelle du suivi des surfaces terrestres. Les résultats de ce principe de fusion sont présentés en fonction de différents jeux de dates d'acquisition des images. La conclusion souligne trois perspectives très prometteuses. Premièrement, la pyramide morphologique peut être utilisée comme un navigateur exploitant les différents niveaux de résolution spatiale permettant l'accès à une information plus ou moins détaillée. Ensuite, la pyramide morphologique ouvre des opportunités intéressantes au recalage d'images de résolutions différentes. Finalement, la pyramide morphologique est un cadre intéressant pour la compression de données par le choix des différents paramètres autorisés.

Mon travail s'est axé sur deux applications : la fusion d'images pour le contrôle et la surveillance et la reconstruction d'images en tomographie micro-onde. Dans les deux cas mon travail s'est focalisé sur la modélisation et l'estimation de la classe particulière des images homogènes par morceau. Mes contributions portent essentiellement sur la modélisation de cette information a priori. Le caractère homogène par morceau de l'image inconnue est modélisé par champ de Markov caché, les pixels appartenant à une même région étant alors représentés par une variable discrète (une étiquette) et des propriétés statistiques communes. Bien que cette modélisation soit relativement courante pour des problèmes de segmentation d'image, son utilisation pour la résolution des problèmes inverses est plus complexe, les données n'étant pas directement des images. Le choix approprié de ces modèles pour les problèmes inverses constitue une partie importante de ce travail. Pour tous les problèmes inverses traités, je propose de calculer la moyenne a posteriori des inconnues. Dans chaque cas, les lois conditionnelles, nécessaires à l'implémentation d'un d'échantillonneur de Gibbs approprié, sont alors déterminées. La mise en oeuvre de ces calculs est simple pour le problème de fusion d'images, mais nécessite plus de précautions dans le cas des problèmes inverses en tomographie micro-onde, pour le modèle linéaire d'une part, mais surtout pour les modèles non linéaires.
