La deuxième partie de cette étude est consacrée à la définition et à l’étude expérimentale du nouveau critère que nous proposons: le diagramme des contraintes limites de formage. Ces dernières n’étant pas accessibles directement, nous proposons une méthode de détermination à l'aide d'un calcul pas à pas le long de trajectoires de déformations relevées de manière expérimentale Cette détermination proposée pour les matériaux isotropes et anisotropes met en évidence que ce critère est nettement plus intrinsèque que les courbes limites de formage classiques, car contrairement à ces dernières, il ne dépend pas de la gamme opératoire. Puis, nous décrivons les modèles théoriques permettant la prévision des courbes limites de formage parmi ceux-ci, le modèle de développement de l’instabilité plastique proposé par Marciniak est réécrit et adapté à la détermination des courbes limites en contraintes. Il permet une étude détaillée de l'influence de divers paramètres sur la position et la forme de ces dernières courbes. Il montre en outre que ce critère est strictement indépendant du type de trajectoires de déformations, prouvant qu'il doit être un outil très précieux dans la mise au point d’opération d'emboutissage.
