Download or read book Mapeo de conflictos written by Raúl Calvo Soler and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2015-03-15 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Postmodernism of Resistance in Roberto Bolaño’s Fiction and Poetry by : J. Agustín Pastén B.
Download or read book Postmodernism of Resistance in Roberto Bolaño’s Fiction and Poetry written by J. Agustín Pastén B. and published by University of New Mexico Press. This book was released on 2020-12-01 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Postmodernism of Resistance in Roberto Bolaño’s Fiction and Poetry examines the ways in which Bolaño employs a type of literary aesthetics that subverts traits traditionally associated with postmodernism. Pastén B. coins these aesthetics “postmodernism of resistance” and argues that this resistance stands in direct opposition to critical discourses that construe the presence of hopeless characters and marginal settings in Bolaño’s works as signs of the writer’s disillusionment with the political as a consequence of the defeat of the Left in Latin America. Rather, he contends, Bolaño creates a fictional world comprised of characters and situations that paradoxically refuse to accept defeat—even while displaying the scars of terrible historical events. In this work Pastén B. challenges some critical assumptions about Bolaño’s fiction and poetry that led to decontextualized interpretations of his work and offers a singularly comprehensive investigation that synthesizes multiple perspectives of a complicated author into one text.

Download or read book Beyond Borders written by Pekka Kujamäki and published by Frank & Timme GmbH. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of articles presented at the conference Translation Studies: Moving In - Moving On in Joensuu, Finland, December 2009. The papers deal with the question of how and under what circumstances target cultures accept or reject concepts, ideas or linguistic features that cross cultural and linguistic borders through translation. The discussions rely on varying empirical data including advertisements, audiovisual translations, encyclopedia as well as translations of literary prose, drama and history texts. As the multiplicity of the data implies, the methodologies used also vary widely from corpus-linguistic methods to analysis of paratexts, and from crosslinguistic analysis of source and target texts to contextualization of target texts in their respective target cultures. The target cultures and languages dealt with in the articles include Catalan, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. Hannu Kemppanen and Pekka Kujam ki are professors in Foreign Languages and Translation Studies at the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu.Leena Kolehmainen and Esa Penttil work as post-doctoral research fellows at the same department.

Download or read book Tongue Ties written by G. Firmat and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-10-16 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Before it becomes a political, social, or even linguistic issue, bilingualism is a private affair, intimate theater'. So writes Firmat in this ground-breaking study of the interweaving of life and languages in a group of bilingual Spanish, Spanish-American and Latino writers. Unravelling the 'tongue ties' of such diverse figures as the American philosopher George Santayana, the emigré Spanish poet Pedro Salinas, Spanish American novelists Guillermo Cabrera Infante and María Luisa Bombal, and Latino memoirists Richard Rodriguez and Sandra Cisneros, Firmat argues that their careers are shaped by a linguistic family romance that involves negotiating between the competing claims and attractions of Spanish and English.

Book excerpt: Justice for Victims brings together the world’s leading scholars in the fields of study surrounding victimization in a pioneering international collection. This book offers an interdisciplinary approach, covering large-scale (political) victimization, terrorist victimization, sexual victimization and routine victimization. Split into three sections, this book provides in-depth coverage of: victims' rights, transitional justice and victims' perspectives, and trauma, resilience and justice. Victims' rights are conceptualised in the human rights framework and discussed in relation to supranational, international and regional policies. The transitional justice section covers victims of war from those caught between peace and justice, as well as post-conflict justice. The final section focuses on post-traumatic stress, connecting psychological and anthropological perceptions in analysing collective violence, mass victimization and trauma. This book addresses challenging and new issues in the field of victimology and the study of transitional and restorative justice. As such, it will be of interest to researchers, practitioners and students interested in the fields of victimology, transitional justice, restorative justice and trauma work.
