Book Synopsis Confessions of a Banffshire Loon by : David M. Addison
Download or read book Confessions of a Banffshire Loon written by David M. Addison and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tales of sex and violence, mystery, murder and yes, even romance, abound in this sweeping saga as the reader is transported from the late seventeenth century to the mid twentieth when the self-confessed bad boy from the boondocks left school to make his own way in the world. The canvas stretches from Banffshire in the North East of Scotland to Blyth in the North East of England, from the Middle East to North America and Australia. In this journey of discovery, the author uncovers some shocking stories and others so amazing they would be dismissed as too fanciful for a work of fiction. You will find a good number of tragic tales that will sadden you but they are leavened by a great many others that will also gladden your heart.
Book Synopsis The Cuban Missus Crisis by : David M. Addison
Download or read book The Cuban Missus Crisis written by David M. Addison and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-06-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this humorous travelogue round Cuba, the hapless author suffers from both urban myths and his Missus (aka the Drinks Police). The first he debunks as they occur; the crises his Missus causes, or would have caused but for his timely intervention, are a more serious matter. Acutely aware that Cuba is certain to change in the near future and probably radically, award-winning author David M. Addison was anxious to experience the country as it is now, under communism and Castro. Apart from describing what daily life is like for ordinary Cubans, he also delves into Cubas past from the original inhabitants and post-Columbian conquest to the Wars of Independence and the Bay of Pigs and its aftermath. On the literary trail, Addison pays homage to Hemingway as he follows in his footsteps. And if that should necessitate a visit to a bar or two, that cant be helped. Its not a lame excuse for a bar crawl despite what the Drinks Police may think. It goes without saying that in Cuba you cant avoid classic cars and cigars but the author also takes a close look at Cubas art and architecture, flora and fauna and not least, the countrys other most famous product rum. Another cause for a crisis as far as the Missus is concerned. A mine on all aspects of Cuban culture both past and present, this is useful background reading for anyone intending a visit to Cuba as well as being a handy accompaniment to your guidebook when you go. Or, if armchair travelling is more your thing, pour yourself a glass of rum or mix a mojito and learn and laugh your way round Cuba.
Book Synopsis An Italian Journey by : David M. Addison
Download or read book An Italian Journey written by David M. Addison and published by Author House. This book was released on 2005-07-20 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The formidable Iona, a.k.a. La Belle Dame Sans Merci, determined to instil some culture into her alcohol-appreciating and apparently sex-starved husband, accompanies him on a tour of the architectural and artistic highlights of Italy, like the Grand Tourists of yesteryear. Unlike those tourists though, who often spent as much as two years, if not longer, on the journey, La Belle Dame Sans Merci has only one week in which to transform her husband as they explore the delights of Naples, Pompeii, Assisi, Florence, Siena and Rome. And if that were not challenge enough, he displays an amazing propensity for opening his mouth and putting his foot in it, not to mention getting himself into a number of extremely embarrassing situations...

Book Synopsis A Meander in Menorca by : David M. Addison
Download or read book A Meander in Menorca written by David M. Addison and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-03-02 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Music, music, music. Right from the start of his package holiday to Menorca, music plagues and obsesses the author. But lets face it, as Iona, his long-suffering wife can testify, hes a pretty intolerant sort of a person. Seen through his eyes, this book provides a sideways look at Menorca, a sort of rough guide to the island, (but not nearly as rough as his next door neighbours in his holiday apartment). Informative, but at the same time witty and amusing, A Meander in Menorca is an idiosyncratic commentary on this little island from its earliest inhabitants, the ancient Talayotic culture, to the present-day tourists, some of whom have no culture at all.

Book Synopsis Exploring the SWC300 by : DAVID M. ADDISON
Download or read book Exploring the SWC300 written by DAVID M. ADDISON and published by . This book was released on 2019-05-31 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The SWC300 Route has been described as Scotland's Secret Corner - with some justification. This book seeks to shed a light on the history and culture of this largely ignored part of Scotland. By delving into the colourful events that happened here in the past, the intention is to enhance and enrich your exploration of this land of contrasts as you travel through its rolling hills and along its spectacularly scenic coastline. The Neolithic settlers, the first Christians, the medieval warlords and the reivers - all played a part in shaping this war-torn land. Sharing a common border with the Auld Enemy - the English - it was badly affected during the Wars of Independence, just as it was during the Covenanting period: what came to be called the Killing Time. Sad to say, there were more deaths from disasters down the mines, out at sea, in the air, and in what remains, to this day, the UK's worst-ever rail disaster. Follow in the footsteps of those who left their mark here. It's a varied cast of characters: kings, commoners and Covenanters; saints and sinners; murderers and martyrs; monks and ministers; poets and pioneers; engineers and explorers; artists and architects; geniuses and gypsies; writers and witches - even troglodytes and cannibals. There are ruined castles and tower houses; grand houses and gardens; abbeys and churches; standing stones and stone circles; museums and monuments; retired railway engines and planes from yesteryear. There are legends; folktales; and tales of the supernatural - all part of the rich tapestry that forms part of the greater and enthralling story that will be revealed to you as you explore what has been a neglected part of Scotland for far too long. It's hard to imagine there can be another part of Scotland that has so much to offer the tourist.

This book was released on 1982 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Publisher description: Sjoestedt's splendid gifts of interpretation and synthesis, together with her remarkably balanced judgements, are an essential contribution to understanding the unique balance of male and female power found in the Celtic mythology. Within her clear analysis of myth and tradition, the author explores the matriarchal world-view of early Celtic religion, as that religion was formed in careful companionship with the male-defined Heroic world of social and political order. This text is a vital part of the recovery of women's spiritual traditions, and a clear outline for future studies of Celtic mythology.
