Book Synopsis Human-Centered AI by : Ben Shneiderman
Download or read book Human-Centered AI written by Ben Shneiderman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The remarkable progress in algorithms for machine and deep learning have opened the doors to new opportunities, and some dark possibilities. However, a bright future awaits those who build on their working methods by including HCAI strategies of design and testing. As many technology companies and thought leaders have argued, the goal is not to replace people, but to empower them by making design choices that give humans control over technology. In Human-Centered AI, Professor Ben Shneiderman offers an optimistic realist's guide to how artificial intelligence can be used to augment and enhance humans' lives. This project bridges the gap between ethical considerations and practical realities to offer a road map for successful, reliable systems. Digital cameras, communications services, and navigation apps are just the beginning. Shneiderman shows how future applications will support health and wellness, improve education, accelerate business, and connect people in reliable, safe, and trustworthy ways that respect human values, rights, justice, and dignity.
Book Synopsis Innovations in Artificial Intelligence and Human-Computer Interaction in the Digital Era by : Surbhi Bhatia Khan
Download or read book Innovations in Artificial Intelligence and Human-Computer Interaction in the Digital Era written by Surbhi Bhatia Khan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-07-22 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovations in Artificial Intelligence and Human Computer Interaction in the Digital Era investigates the interaction and growing interdependency of the HCI and AI fields, which are not usually addressed in traditional approaches. Chapters explore how well AI can interact with users based on linguistics and user-centered design processes, especially with the advances of AI and the hype around many applications. Other sections investigate how HCI and AI can mutually benefit from a closer association and the how the AI community can improve their usage of HCI methods like “Wizard of Oz prototyping and “Thinking aloud protocols. Moreover, HCI can further augment human capabilities using new technologies. This book demonstrates how an interdisciplinary team of HCI and AI researchers can develop extraordinary applications, such as improved education systems, smart homes, smart healthcare and map Human Computer Interaction (HCI) for a multidisciplinary field that focuses on the design of computer technology and the interaction between users and computers in different domains. Presents fundamental concepts of both HCI and AI, addressing a multidisciplinary audience of researchers and engineers working on User Centered Design (UCD), User Interface (UI) design, and User Experience (UX) design Explores a broad range of case studies from across healthcare, industry, and education Investigates multiple strategies for designing and developing intelligent user interfaces to solve real-world problems Outlines research challenges and future directions for the intersection of AI and HCI

Book Synopsis A Human-Centered Perspective of Intelligent Personalized Environments and Systems by : Bruce Ferwerda
Download or read book A Human-Centered Perspective of Intelligent Personalized Environments and Systems written by Bruce Ferwerda and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zusammenfassung: This book investigates the potential of combining the more quantitative - data-driven techniques with the more qualitative - theory-driven approaches towards the design of user-centred intelligent systems. It seeks to explore the potential of incorporating factors grounded in psychological theory into adaptive/intelligent routines, mechanisms, technologies and innovations. It highlights models, methods and tools that are emerging from their convergence along with challenges and lessons learned. Special emphasis is placed on promoting original insights and paradigms with respect to latest technologies, current research trends, and innovation directions, e.g., incorporating variables derived from psychological theory and individual differences in adaptive intelligent systems so as to increase explainability, fairness, and transparency, and decrease bias during interactions while the control remains with the user

Book Synopsis Explainable AI and User Experience. Prototyping and Evaluating an UX-Optimized XAI Interface in Computer Vision by : Georg Dedikov
Download or read book Explainable AI and User Experience. Prototyping and Evaluating an UX-Optimized XAI Interface in Computer Vision written by Georg Dedikov and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-05-16 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Computer Science - SEO, Search Engine Optimization, grade: 1,0, University of Regensburg (Professur für Wirtschaftsinformatik, insb. Internet Business & Digitale Soziale Medien), language: English, abstract: This thesis presents a toolkit of 17 user experience (UX) principles, which are categorized according to their relevance towards Explainable AI (XAI). The goal of Explainable AI has been widely associated in literature with dimensions of comprehensibility, usefulness, trust, and acceptance. Moreover, authors in academia postulate that research should rather focus on the development of holistic explanation interfaces instead of single visual explanations. Consequently, the focus of XAI research should be more on potential users and their needs, rather than purely technical aspects of XAI methods. Considering these three impediments, the author of this thesis derives the assumption to bring valuable insights from the research area of User Interface (UI) and User Experience design into XAI research. Basically, UX is concerned with the design and evaluation of pragmatic and hedonic aspects of a user’s interaction with a system in some context. These principles are taken into account in the subsequent prototyping of a custom XAI system called Brain Tumor Assistant (BTA). Here, a pre-trained EfficientNetB0 is used as a Convolutional Neural Network that can divide x-ray images of a human brain into four classes with an overall accuracy of 98%. To generate factual explanations, Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations are subsequently applied as an XAI method. The following evaluation of the BTA is based on the so-called User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) according to Laugwitz et al. (2008), whereby single items of the questionnaire are adapted to the specific context of XAI. Quantitative data from a study with 50 participants in each control and treatment group is used to present a standardized way of quantifying the dimensions of Usability and UX specifically for XAI systems. Furthermore, through an A/B test, evidence is presented that visual explanations have a significant (α=0.05) positive effect on the dimensions of attractiveness, usefulness, controllability, and trustworthiness. In summary, this thesis proves that explanations in computer vision not only have a significantly positive effect on trustworthiness, but also on other dimensions.
