Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is twofold: first, it aims to provide a short introduction to health, its determinants, and health services in these five Nordic countries. Second, through its list of references we hope that people with a more detail interest in these questions can locate relevant data sources. The aim of comparability has resulted in unevennes, because the content of the report is largely determined by what was available rather than what is important or what would have been the best way of presenting the data. This is not a complete or balanced overview, but a "visiting card" to health issues in the Nordic countries.

Book excerpt: For the first time in history, the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) held the joint “E-Health” Symposium as part of “Treat IT” stream of the IFIP World Congress 2010 at Brisbane, Australia during September 22–23, 2010. IMIA is an independent organization established under Swiss law in 1989. The organization originated in 1967 from Technical Committee 4 of IFIP that is a n- governmental, non-profit umbrella organization for national societies working in the field of information processing. It was established in 1960 under the auspices of UNESCO following the First World Computer Congress held in Paris in 1959. Today, IFIP has several types of members and maintains friendly connections to specialized agencies of the UN system and non-governmental organizations. Technical work, which is the heart of IFIP's activity, is managed by a series of Technical Committees. Due to strong needs for promoting informatics in healthcare and the rapid progress of information and communication technology, IMIA President Reinhold Haux p- posed to strengthen the collaboration with IFIP. The IMIA General Assembly (GA) approved the move and an IMIA Vice President (VP) for special services (Hiroshi Takeda) was assigned as a liaison to IFIP at Brisbane during MEDINFO2007 where th the 40 birthday of IMIA was celebrated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many citizens primary health care is the first point of contact with their health care system, where most of their health needs are satisfied but also acting as the gate to the rest of the system. In that respect primary care plays a crucial role in how patients value health systems as responsive to their needs and expectations. This volume analyses the way how primary are is organized and delivered across European countries, looking at governance, financing and workforce aspects and the breadth of the service profiles. It describes wide national variations in terms of accessibility, continuity and coordination. Relating these differences to health system outcomes the authors suggest some priority areas for reducing the gap between the ideal and current realities.

This book was released on 2005-04-01 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nordic countries have reached a stage where the national level of development in the use of IT applications has extended to a Nordic level. This is partly a result of the Collaborative Net-work of Nordic eHealth Competence Centres, a voluntary group for experience exchange and common activities regarding ICT in healthcare. However, this Nordic co-operation needs to be strengthened and more structured, with the appropriate re-sources, legal foundation, skills and capacity, to further develop and exploit common solutions. This report is the result of a study carried out on request of the Nordic Council of Ministers, by Ministers for Social Affairs and Health. It has been carried out by the partners of the Collabora-tive Network of Nordic eHealth Competence Centres (Med-Com/Denmark, KITH/Norway, STAKES/Finland, Ministry of Health/Iceland, and Carelink/Sweden). The report describes the use of IT in health care and social services in the Nordic coun-tries. The purpose of the study is to enhance the opportunity for the Nordic countries to learn from each other and to co-operate in a larger extent.

This book was released on 1999 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Used extensively in North America and Europe, seminal practice networks, also referred to as practice research networks, recruit office-based physicians to monitor defined events among their patients, such as influenza, mumps and asthma attacks, at regional, county and even national levels. After adequate analysis, these data indicate spatial and temporal trends in event frequencies: comparibility of national results is, however, limited, partly due to the different national health systems influencing the demand of medical care. More importantly, the lack of comparable data on the population from which the cases arise - denominator data - obstructs the comparison of data from primary care research between different regions or countries.

Book excerpt: This report summarises the discussions from a seminar held 30 and 31 August 2018 in Copenhagen on eHealth standardisation in the Nordic countries. The seminar was organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ eHealth group. The report represents the beginning of a more permanent Nordic collaboration in this area. Following the seminar and the subsequent analysis of the input from the seminar, the eHealth group has decided to establish a subgroup on eHealth standardisation. The scope of the report is limited mainly to technical standards, with some examples including semantic standards. The work of the sub group will take on both the former and the latter and will be elaborated further within the broader framework of the European Interoperability Framework in which organisational and legal standards are included.
